Johara Karalis - July 31, 2011 01:34 AM (GMT)
There were just too many guards.

How was she going to sneak in with all them wandering around? Not that she even knew where she was going to sneak in or even why she was doing this in the first place.

She really must be losing it, trying to sneak onto the castle grounds and all because of a dare. That’s why boys were so stupid! They said idiotic things but she wasn't sure what that made her for listening. Johara wouldn't have even considered doing such a risky thing if they hadn't called her out. Saying there was no way she could do it and stuff about being scared. Well she would show them a thing or too!

'Whatever idiot gods watch over this land, please don't let mum find out about this'

Johara could imagine the look on her mother’s face if she found out her daughter was wandering around in the nicer part of Maristheum. Ignorance was surely bliss, her mother would be happier not knowing. Now back to the matter at hand, how in the world was she going to sneak in…there didn’t seem to be any opening.

Sliding out of the tree she crept around another corner picking on the other side of the wall, she watched the guard walk towards the opposite side. Johara began walking quietly to the other side when something caught her eye, a hole? She rubbed her eyes as she crotched down by the small hole in the wall, it just seemed to good to be true. It was small, she wasn’t even sure if she would fit but she would give it a shot and pray she didn’t get stuck. Taking a quick peak around to make sure it was clear she began to crawl under the hole.

It certainly had been small, she scraped her arm on the hole and her clothes were covered in dirt, not to mention there were weeds in her hair. Taking a look around she understood the last part, it looked to be some kind weed patch. Johara kept a crouched position and kept looking around; it was just her luck that water blocked her path. Why couldn't castles be surronded by something else. She made it in, now she just had to find something to serve as proof and get out.

Then this foolish adventure would be over.

Kellen Winterborn - July 31, 2011 09:36 PM (GMT)
He'd been quietly coming to terms with the idea of re-marriage -- and, in effect, the idea of living at the castle, of seeing his father paired off with the Queen, and the realization that this would technically make Queen Astraea their mother, now. He couldn't imagine calling her mother. He couldn't imagine her being a mother. She seemed so... removed.

Am I being unfair? he wondered, wandering the garden aimlessly, his three-year old sister toddling behind him. Freya was stopping to pick plants, gathering them into a bouquet. He didn't stop her when she added grass and weeds to the bunch.

A bit of movement at the wall startled him, and he paused, his eyes growing keen as he saw the overgrowth of weeds shift. An animal? Hurt, possibly, if it was making such a racquet. Animals were usually very good at staying quiet, until they were injured. Tucking his arms behind his back and keeping an eye on Freya to make sure she did not stray too close, he waited for the creature to show itself.

When a human head popped up, he blinked, startled.

She looked dirty, like she should be hurt, but she was shrewdly looking around and not really inspecting herself for injuries. Frowning, he wondered whom she belonged to, and what she was doing rolling around in the dirt on the outskirts of the grounds.

"Excuse me," he called, politely. "What are you doing?"

Johara Karalis - July 31, 2011 09:53 PM (GMT)
The voice startled her causing her to jump a little before she turned to see a boy, probably a little bit older then her. A little girl trailed behind him carrying more weeds then flowers but that was not her concern. Leaving the small child aside, the boy could prove to be a threat.

So, how should she go about answering his question. Should she be truthful or lie.

"Exploring, what are you both doing"

Kellen Winterborn - July 31, 2011 10:20 PM (GMT)
Exploring? His eyebrows shot up a little, but he figured that was an acceptable enough explanation. "Just taking a walk. Are you having a fun exploration?" he asked, politely.

Johara Karalis - July 31, 2011 10:26 PM (GMT)
Fun, huh?

She supposed she was, exploring was only as fun as the amount of trouble it could cause. Johara really did have a thing for causing trouble and doing things she probably shouldn't.

"It's been interesting so far" She glanced at the small child before returning her attention to him, "Just a heads up but she looks like she might try to eat some of those...so enjoying your walk?"

Kellen Winterborn - July 31, 2011 10:29 PM (GMT)
He looked back and frowned, then reached over and gently lowered Freya's hands from her mouth, leaving behind a stray blade of grass sticking out of the corner of her mouth. "Don't eat those, Freya," he said, his voice quiet but with an air of command about it.

She grinned up at him and he plucked the last blade of grass from her mouth.

"We are, thank you," he said, to the strange girl. "Would you like to walk with us? Perhaps we can aid in your exploration."

Johara Karalis - July 31, 2011 10:35 PM (GMT)
Johara watched the two quietly, he sure was acting nice for a nobleman and one who appeared to live in the castle. All the noble children she had met had stuck their nose up at her, their allowance was probably more money then she would ever see in her life.

She considered his offer carefuly before nodding her head with a smile, "Sure, the more the merrier they say" Johara dusted herself off real quick before making her way over to them. She would have to remain on her guard, this could be a trap.

Kellen Winterborn - July 31, 2011 10:39 PM (GMT)
He smiled, and resumed his walk. "Do your parents work in the castle?"

Johara Karalis - July 31, 2011 10:48 PM (GMT)
"Nope, what about you? I thought the queen didn't have any kids" Not that she really paid that much attention to that stuff.

Kellen Winterborn - July 31, 2011 10:59 PM (GMT)
He seemed stiff at the question, but shrugged. "There are other noble children that live here," he pointed out, quietly. "But as it happens, the Queen is marrying my father."

Johara Karalis - July 31, 2011 11:05 PM (GMT)
Johara nodded her head lightly, it certainly was big enough to hold more than one family. She just pegged royalty as people who didn't like to share...

Her eyes widened a bit, "I'm sorry" remarriage huh? She wasn't sure if she would be happy if her mother ever married someone. The same went for her Uncle Brody as well!

Kellen Winterborn - July 31, 2011 11:06 PM (GMT)
Taken aback, Kel looked at her. "Why?"

Johara Karalis - July 31, 2011 11:10 PM (GMT)
"I don't have a father but I imagine it must be hard, to think someone might take the place of someone important" Johara couldn't imagine anyone replacing her mother, she was irreplaceable

"I'm not a big fan of the queen either"

Kellen Winterborn - July 31, 2011 11:11 PM (GMT)
He supposed he could see her point. "Why not?"

Johara Karalis - July 31, 2011 11:13 PM (GMT)
"She seems cold" The queen didn't seem to give a damn about refugees at all, so of course she wouldn't be a fan.

Kellen Winterborn - July 31, 2011 11:42 PM (GMT)
He nodded. "She does, that."

Johara Karalis - July 31, 2011 11:46 PM (GMT)
"So...what are you going to do?"

Kellen Winterborn - July 31, 2011 11:47 PM (GMT)
"Do? Nothing."

Johara Karalis - July 31, 2011 11:51 PM (GMT)
"So your dads happy" Thats a surprise, his father must be a masochist or just simply crazy.

Kellen Winterborn - July 31, 2011 11:52 PM (GMT)
He shrugged, not willing to be the agent that spread rumors about the unhappy marriage. "We're all doing our best."

Johara Karalis - July 31, 2011 11:56 PM (GMT)
His statement didn't really give a straight answer but it wasn't her bussiness. What the royals did was there own bussiness as long as they left her family alone. "Aren't we all" Taking a look around she wondered where they were, "Where are we heading?"

Kellen Winterborn - July 31, 2011 11:58 PM (GMT)
"Just a turn around the gardens," he said. "Although if you'd like something more adventurous, feel free to make the suggestion. As long as Freya can keep up."

Johara Karalis - August 1, 2011 12:02 AM (GMT)
Johara shrugged her shoulders, "I wouldn't know where to go so anywheres fine" She didn't know her way around the palace grounds so it probably wasn't good to let her lead. "I can always give her a piggyback ride if she cant keep up"

Kellen Winterborn - August 1, 2011 12:04 AM (GMT)
The girl looked far too tiny to carry Freya around. "I'm Kellen."

Johara Karalis - August 1, 2011 12:07 AM (GMT)
Johara attempted to wipe the dirt off her hand using her shirt before extending it, "I'm Johara and I'm assuming thats your sister Freya"

Kellen Winterborn - August 1, 2011 12:09 AM (GMT)
He shook it, inclining his head politely over the hand. He didn't kiss it, because he wasn't an adult yet, but he was nothing if not overtly polite. "You assume correctly. It's a pleasure to meet you, Miss Johara."

Johara Karalis - August 1, 2011 12:14 AM (GMT)
Johara wasn't really used to such manners, all the boys around her were ruffians and not at all afraid to hit her a girl. "Johara or Jo is fine, I'm common after all. I must admit, I dont know how to address a prince"

Kellen Winterborn - August 1, 2011 12:15 AM (GMT)
"I'm not a prince, yet. You can call me Kel."

Johara Karalis - August 1, 2011 12:18 AM (GMT)
Johara shrugged her shoulders, "You certainly remind me of one" Just like from a story her mom had told her. It was almost hard to believe people like him even existed.

Kellen Winterborn - August 1, 2011 12:21 AM (GMT)
"I do?" he asked, surprised. He hadn't realized that he was acting like one. Was it a compliment? "Thank you?"

Johara Karalis - August 1, 2011 12:23 AM (GMT)
Johara chuckled at his surprise, "Not a real one since I'm not sure how they act. More like one you hear about in stories" The kind that are nice to everyone, slay the dragon and rescue the princess.

Kellen Winterborn - August 1, 2011 12:24 AM (GMT)
"Oh. Well, I'm glad I'm living up to expectations, then," he said, laughing softly.

Johara Karalis - August 1, 2011 12:28 AM (GMT)
Johara chuckled again, "I suppose" Expectations huh? It was also important not to live up to them fully. "Try not to be too nice though or else people will pick on you" She wasn't sure how it worked for rich people, but only the strong survived in the lower parts of town.

Kellen Winterborn - August 1, 2011 12:45 AM (GMT)
He smiled. "I'll keep that in mind," he promised.

Johara Karalis - August 1, 2011 01:09 AM (GMT)
Johara smiled back, it felt kind of weird having such a...normal conversation with a noble. Continuing to follow Kel, her eyes began wandering around, she had kind of forgotten to actually take in the sights during the conversation.

Kellen Winterborn - August 1, 2011 01:14 AM (GMT)
He pointed to a tree. "My father said that when he was a young prince here, he climbed up the tree and fell out, and the Queen then almost felled it because of it. He managed to convince her not to, though."

Johara Karalis - August 1, 2011 01:21 AM (GMT)
Her eyes followed the path he pointed untill they met with the tree, "Oh, he sounds like a wonderful father" Cutting down a tree just because a kid fell out of it, if everyone did that then trees would cease to exist. "What about you, fallen out of any trees yet?"

Kellen Winterborn - August 9, 2011 12:55 AM (GMT)
He shook his head. "No, I'm not allowed to climb them." His father wasn't keen on any of the kids repeating his mistakes.

Johara Karalis - August 9, 2011 01:52 AM (GMT)
Johara folded her hands behind her head in thought, ”That’s a shame, they say you haven’t lived till you’ve fallen out of a tree” She turned to him with a smile, ”It’s kind of painful though”

Kellen Winterborn - August 14, 2011 05:31 PM (GMT)
He doubted anyone really said that, but he smiled at her anyway, amused by the idea of it. Glancing behind to make sure Freya was well in tow, he said, "Well, I suppose I'll have to bring that up with my father at some point."
