Buffy Season 1, Discussing Season 1, episodes 1-12

Episode 1: Welcome to the Hellmouth

In the first episode of the enigmatic televisions series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, we meet Buffy Summers. A bright, spirited young woman who is put into a new school where she must once again make new friends and find her niche in life. Upon starting Sunnydale High, Principal Flutie explains to her how she has a clean slate, and no matter what had happened at her previous school (burning down the gym) she will be able to start anew.

Buffy goes to the library to get books where she meets Giles. Giles is a Watcher and slaps some demon books on the counter, saying he was expecting her. A Watcher is a person who guides, educates and trains the Slayer. The one Chosen in each generation to defend the world against the demons, vampires and forces of darkness. Buffy was hoping to escape this life and quickly said those weren't for her and flees. During her day, she meets Cordelia who is an uptight, prissy drama queen, who Buffy quickly determines isn't very nice.

Also, a mysterious person named Angel gives Buffy cryptic advice.

Eventually, she meets Willow and Xander. Friends since kindergarden, she quickly befriends them. On accident, Xander finds out that Buffy is a Slayer when he over hears her and Giles talking about vampires in the library. It soon gets to Willow's ear and the three of them join forces with Giles to find a way to save Jesse, Xander's friend who was kidnapped by vampires.

Not until Season 6.

Episode 2: The Harvest.

I should have said that the first 2 episodes were back to back. They were separate episodes, but the entire synopsis of them are included in the first post. When they aired, they aired as 2, not 1.

Episode 3: Witch

Buffy tries out for cheerleader and one of the most popular girls trying out has an accident. Her hands catch on fire. Meanwhile, a girl named Amy Madison is pressured by her mother to excel in the tryouts. She becomes 3rd alternate. 3 people on the team need to have situations where they cannot perform. Mysteriously, more girls are weeded out from the competition. Cordelia becoms blind, a girl named Lishanne's mouth is sealed over so she cannot cheer and Buffy is turned into a gibbering idiot.

Suspecting Amy, Buffy and Giles go to her house, only to find out that Amy's mom switched their bodies so she could relive her days, when she was the best cheerleader at Sunnydale High. Buffy, Amy in Catherine's body and Giles go to the chemistry room at the school and prepare a countercurse. Catherine, Amy's Mom, can feel the effects while she is cheering and runs out to stop the process. Buffy is in a weakened state as her life force is draining from her body.

Eventually, Catherine and Amy are switched. The real Catherine attacks Buffy. Catherine attempts to curse Buffy again, but Buffy reflects it with a large mirror over a lap table and the spell traps Catherine in a trophy in a case at the school. A trophy she won for her cheerleading when she was in high school.
