Rules and Expectations
1) A Basic Grasp on the English Language. Every now and then a slip up is acceptable, but for the most part keep the typos, grammar mistakes, and short posts to a minimum. The average post should be at least 3 well written paragraphs, if not more. This is an advanced RP, so we expect everyone to show it. Write in third person, as if you were going to read it like a story.
BAD EXAMPLE 1: *She glided down the hallway.* (Don't use *'s for action.) BAD EXAMPLE 2: She glides down the hallway. (Don't use present tense.)
GOOD EXAMPLE: Kitty moved down the darkened interior of the hallway, her eyes wide as she tried to adjust them to the dimness of the room.
Basic guidelines: Use third person past tense at all times, with the exception of dialog. The only time *'s are allowed is for psychic dialog with another character. Use quotes for general dialog, and try to avoid large blocks of text. Split them up into paragraphs for style and an easier read.
2) Changing Fonts. Changing the font type, color or alignment in any post on the board or in your signature area is prohibited here at Ebony. If you have some innate need to stand out or not conform to normalcy, then this is not the board for you and we are not the Staff for you. Every post should be the same font face, the default color, and aligned on the left. Again, this goes for both your posts and your signature area. Any violations will immediately be deleted without notice.
3) No SPAM Posts. This means no Short, Pointless, and Annoying Messages IN CHARACTER. If you are going to post under someone else’s topic, please be courteous and don't do it unless you have something useful to contribute. Circles are not fun to walk in, trust us. Also, when replying to someone else’s post, please try your hardest to match length (no, I'm not saying to count the words out, just if someone writes a four paragraph starting post, don't reply with a half-assed barely-paragraph post). Also, no board sluts. That means no running around and posting at EVERY SINGLE TOPIC. Please, it's annoying and pointless.
4) Cursing, violence, sex, rape, ect. ... is very welcome here, simply because this is an adult RP with lots of violence in the premise. However, keep it within reason. Don't run around cursing everything because you can, fighting everything because you can, and screwing everything because you can. Make sure you keep it within reason, and in character.
If that kind of stuff offends you, this is not the RPG for you. If you are a minor, know that WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR ACTIONS. The boards will not be censored.
5) Don't God Mod. Generally, God Modding means controlling the actions of someone else's RP character. However, it also encompasses other behaviors that are considered to be unfair. These behaviors include: unfairly avoiding an attack, going beyond the limits of your character, and having your character know things that it shouldn't.
On a side note you may see certain characters god modding others, this does not mean that it is encouraged. What is written is always done with permission and/or between players who trust each other enough to let another control their character.
You cannot rape, kill, or permanently maim another character without that character's permission unless you are in the area's where this is allowed. The area's that your character can be raped, killed, or permanently maimed are marked and you are expected to read these warnings. (Example of this is making a slave) Also, don't post for your Character A under your Character B's name. Don't be lazy, just log on to your other account and do it.
6) No Canon Characters. This RPG may use the same world, hierarchy and jewel and caste systems as that of the Black Jewels Trilogy, but think of it as an entirely different world, which means the characters simply DO NOT exist and will never exist. Be creative when thinking of your own characters. Anyone who applies as "Daemon," "Jaenelle," "Saeten," ect. will be deleted. If you aren't smart enough to think of your own character, this is not the RPG for you.
7) Sexism, Racism, and Jewel Discrimination. ...are fine in character only. The fact of the matter is, that if you haven’t guessed already, this is a very, VERY biased society, with many biases. Your character is bound to be biased in some way shape or form, and others will be rude to you for similar reasons. It's just the game.
Also, please don't take things personally here. A lot of things are said in character that isn't a direct reflection of you, but of the interaction between two characters. If you aren't liked, then deal with it because THIS IS JUST A GAME. Some people tend to forget that and I won't have anyone being made to feel bad out of character.
If you're been harassed OUT OF CHARACTER, please PM one of the Admins (Kitty, Puppy, D or J) immediately. Key: Spell your character's first name backwards.
8) Be as real as you can be. In other words, play by the major rules. Only one Offering, no Jewel lying, and especially (for the females) only one virgin night. Please be true to your character and not post something because it'll make people like you or you can get laid etc. etc. Think of your character as another extension of yourself. Your character is bound to change, and you can't do something over because you didn't like the change. Deal with it and move on.
9) Post Etiquette and Post Order. Now I know that many of you already know about this from various RPs, but we're going to go over it again. Here is how it works. Let’s say you are involved in a thread with Bob and Sally. You post, then Bob posts, then Sally Posts… the order is then set and Bob should wait for you to post again, before he posts… Is this understandable?? It accomplishes a great many things, the most important of which, is that it gives people who can’t live online (like some of us do) a chance to get their posts out without being run over. It also makes things easier to read and understand.
Now there can be exceptions to this of course; and if you really think that you should post before someone else, send them a PM over the forums, or ping them over AIM, and ask. Or likewise, if you are involved in a thread and you know you will not be able to post for a few days, please either find a way to write the character out, or let the other people in the thread know about this. That way, they can either skip over you, or they can hold the thread until you return.
Be advised that if you are holding up a thread and making people wait without notifying them via the Leave of Absence thread or via PM, you will be bypassed and given a note that you are kicked out of that thread and no longer allowed to post unless you have a prior agreement with the others in the thread that states you won't be posting for a while and they agree to it. THEY HAVE TO AGREE!!!
HAVE FUN!
