Getting Settled In...

[Matthew Cardigan]

Matthew was so excited. He couldn't wait to set his room up. Sure he had to share it with someone, but he didn't mind. I just hope he likes purple, cause' there's going to be a lot of it in here, OKAAAY! Matthew thought, followed by a mental snap of the fingers.

Matthew opened up his box of linens, and pulled out his comforter, sheets, pillow cases, and his pillows... all of course showcasing the lush tone of purple that he loves.

Matthew finished making his bed, and went over to his boom box. He picked up his huge book of Cd's, and randomly pulled one without even looking at it. He put the CD in the player, laid down on his bed, and closed his eyes. Suddenly the Spice girls started to blare out of the boom box, and Matthew couldn't help but to sing along...

"...COLORS OF THE WORLD, SPICE UP YOUR LIFE. EVERY BOY N' EVERY GIRL, SPICE UP YOUR LIFE! PEOPLE OF THE WORLD, SPICE UP YOUR LIFE. AAAAAAAAHHHHH!" Matthew quickly jumped onto his feet, and started dancing on his bed, in sync with the music.

Matthew took the choreography straight from there music video. He, Jillian, and a couple of other friends performed it at a talent show back in the 6th grade. Matthew was Baby Spice.

Now there were some things a guy did not expect to hear coming from his room as he approached it. At first he was slightly bewildered and hoped that he was mistaken and it wasn't his room. Then, Benjamin Argall realized that there was no such luck and steeled himself before walking into the room. Another year at Eastwick with... his new roommate. Great.

He had a majority of his bags with him. His sisters or his uncle had brought the rest earlier, luckily.

Openning the door, he noted the extreme presence of purple. Great, a roommate Mary would love... and love to tease Ben about. He'd have to keep her away from his room for a while, now wouldn't he?

"Uhh... Hey, I'm Benjamin Argall. I guess I'm your roommate," Ben smiled at his roommate a moment and then turned to ready his stuff as much as it was needed, which wasn't much. Benny had a number of little things he'd do when his roommate wasn't hanging around and listening to Spice Girls.

Matthew thought he had heard someone enter his room, and when he turned around he was quite surprised to see such a handsome brute standing there. He couldn't help himself...he shreiked in excitement. He jumped into the air, landed on his nice firm butt, and bounced off the bed. Within another leap he had his arms around his new roommate, and hugged him tightly. Eu Lala, his arms feel so nice, and strong, he thought to himself. Matthew released the big guy rather quickly, and took a step back in order to see how cute he really was. After a moment of checking him out, he offered out his hand. "Hello, I'm Matthew, Matthew Cardigan."

Matthew put his hands on his hips, and swayed from side to side. "Well don't be shy Mr. McCutie...who are you?"

Yup, Angie and Mary would definately have a good laugh at this. All the better reason to just not tell those two... or let them anywhere near his room. He had had enough jokes about him being "just one of the girls" for a lifetime. Three sisters, a cousin, and an absentee brother did that.

He cringed a bit more when his roommate just hugged him. Benjamin already was a non-touchy-feely person. To be hugged by a guy he just met, any guy, was just... not Ben's ideal of a good meeting. But at least the guy was enthusiastic, right? Of course the hug didn't last too long, luckily.

At first he didn't understand the question. After all, the music was loud and this Matthew was distracting Ben from his one words by generally acting... well Ben hated to be the one to think it, gay.

"I already said when I came in: Benjamin Argall. I'm a senior," Benny considered shaking hands with the little fella, but he had a feeling the hug was enough contact.

Matthew's smile faded momentarily. "Oh, I'm sorry. I must have not heard you." Matthew leaped over to his boombox and turned the volume down. He jumped back over to his new roommate. "So, handsome, do you mind if I call you Benji?" Before he could answer Matthew started to talk again. "So, Benji...I haven't seen you around here before, are you new? I've lived here in Eastwick all of my life, and I just love it. Where are you from?" Realizing that he probably said too much, Matthew paused, and took a deep breath. "Sorry, I talk too much." He turned around, sat on his bed and ushered Benji to respond.

Ben relaxed a little and even let himself smile. He hadn't heard someone call him Benji... ever. Mostly it was Ben or Benny. "You could call me anything that could be short for Benjamin. Everyone on my family has their own personal favorites, but it depends wholy on if I can call you Matty" he said with a shrug.

It was true. The story went that his mom decided to call him Benjamin after her brother, who everyone called Benny. She didn't want her son to have a nickname, but her father disagreed and wanted to call Benjamin Ben. However, Uncle Benny saw the obvious namesake and took full advantage to call Benjamin Benny. Everyone else just followed in line doing what they wanted or what their parents did. His family was nuts.

He rubbed the back of his neck and added, "Umm... yeah, I've actually been here a couple of years... didn't know I was that forgettable..." Well, that just proved that Ben's hope to be invisible in this place worked. That was good to know.

Ben then looked around, hoping Matty didn't have any easily breakable things. THat was the last thing he needed to randomly fall and break something that wasn't his.

Matthew was thrilled that he could call him Benji. He wasn't exactly thrilled at being called Matty, but at the same time, Benji was hot, and technically the big ol' brute could call him whatever he wanted to. "Sure, Matty is cool with me."

He was quite surprised that Benji had been here for a couple of years, because he couldn't remember him at all. "Oh, believe me you're not forgettable Benji, I just don't think I've ever seen you before...and Eastwick is a tiny town, so maybe destiny just chose to not bring us together til now." Matthew gave him a flirtatious smile, and leaned back on his bed.

It was obvious Matthew was gay. He made it that way. He didn't want anyone to question his sexual preferences, he wanted people to just look at him, and know...and it was quite obvious that Benji knew. It was surprising to Matthew though, that he wasn't uncomfortable enough to not talk to him. Benji looked like the straight heterosexual type that liked to beat people like Matthew up...but there was also something sweet about him, that Matthew found hot.

"So, Benji, I hate to be forward, but would you have a problem rooming with someone whose gay? Because I am very gay...as if you couldn't tell, Matthew posed, and ushered to all of the purple in the room. "...and I'd hate if there was tension between us." He knew he was flirting, and being quite upfront but...hell he was Matthew, this is what he did best.

Oh. Dear. God.

Ben had been hoping the kid wouldn't just come out and say it like that. So long as there was room for doubt, albeit very little room for doubt, Benjamin could pretend everything was going to be just fine and dandy. At least the guy was honest, but now he definately couldn't bring those two girls he called sister and cousin around. They'd have a ball... complete with dancing.

Ben decided the best was to face this was by looking at his feet and hope his face hadn't betrayed his dismay, though he was terribly afraid it already had. He could feel the blood had drained from his face. Wonderful.

"Well, I can't tell you I'm totally cool with it, but I'm not going to do anything stupid," Ben said in a half-mutter, "You can't really help it... I guess..."

Great, now the kid would probably think Ben was some kind of homophobe... and closet homosexual. That was far from the truth. Benjamin liked girls and boobs, and all the other things girls had. Especially the way some smelled...

Matthew grinned. Awe, poor thing. He's gay, and he just doesn't know it yet. I'll just have to be his teacher. He giggled to himself lightly, and stood up from his bed.

"Aww, Benji...don't worry...sure my sexual preferences may be a bit different from some...but I'm still just a normal guy...well sort of." Noticing how his eyes were glued to the floor, Matthew was having the hardest time trying to not laugh. "...and besides, I don't bite..." He calmly walked over to his boombox and placed his finger on the volume dial. "...hard," he whispered before he turned it back up. He went to his bed, and grabbed his diary from his night stand. "Let me know if you need any help unpacking, Okay Benji?"

"I think I've got it," Ben muttered and then turned back to unpackign his things.

He didn't have much. Just his clothes which were all folded and stained in some way, which he stuck in his drawers in a haphazard manner. THere was also the pilow Sam's girlfriend made for him which was mishapen because Sam's girlfriend couldn't sew. In fact, Ben had to help his mom teach her... for some ungodly reason. He barely even knew how to do that. Then there was his big jean quilt, which he spread out over his bed and hoped Matthew didn't notice the little inscription in the corner embroidered by his sisters in orange cursive:

From: Sarah, Rachel, Mary, and Angie!"

In fact, Benny did his best to hide that little bit before setting out to set up the rest of his room. Namely, his alarm and other things.

Matthew smiled, and leaned back further into his bead, while he wrote in his diary. He occasionally would peer up, and watch him unpack. He couldn't help but to stare at his ripe, strong muscles every sentence or two.

Dear Diary,

I've just met ny new roommate,and let me tell you...HE IS SUCH A HOTTIE! His name is Benji. I think he's a senior. He has huge muscles, and is just the cutest thing. I think he's secretly gay, which is just a blessing for him to be rooming with ME! I plan on helping him break through the closet very slowly. You can't rush these kinds of things. If you do, next thing you know he'll be married to a girl, and wishing she was a man.

Matthew paused for a moment as he watched Ben pull out a denim quilt. "That...is...adorable!" He slowly rose out of bed, and walked towards Benji. "Did your Mom make that for you? I like it, it's rugged, and fits you perfectly," he said flirtatiously.

Benjamin looked up at his roommate from what he was doing and made sure that the corner he didn't want the guy to see wasn't in plain sight. It was hanging over the other side of the bed, thank God.

"Actually, my mom conspired with my three sisters to make it and then somehow dragged my cousin Angie into it... They actually had to add two rows to the bottom last year because I managed to grow another foot," Ben explained with a shrug as he held the button down on his alarm clock until the hour, at least was right.

Matthew smiled. "I bet you did," he said flirtatiously, referring to Benji's comment about growing another foot. Matthew sat down on Benji's recently made bed, and scooted over to where he was directly in front of him. He leaned back a little and smiled at him. "Benji...I just want to let you know, that if you ever...need anything! ANYTHING! I mean anything....at all....I want you to know that you can come to me." After emphasizing 'ANYTHING' a couple of times, Matthew knew that that was enough of making Benji uncomfortable.

He slowly stood up placed his hand of Benji's shoulder before walking towards the door. "I'm gonna go sneak into the kitchen's for a late night snack...and to see if I can find the lunch ladies whiskey. I think I remember where she hides it...anyways did you want me to bring you up anything?"
