While the Free Marches is home to countless groups and organizations, few can match the power and influence of the following-

-The Chantry

Even after the terrible losses suffered during the mage uprising of Kirkwall, the Chantry remains the dominant power in the Free Marches. Templars boast a presence in nearly every city in the region, and are especially zealous as of late in their hunt for apostates and blood mages. In the last six months they have rigorously hunted agents of the Mages' Collective, usually to little success, and established a new Circle of Magi in Kirkwall as the repairs to the Gallows were completed.

Mages' Collective

The Mages' Collective are a group of magi that operate outside the restrictions of the Chantry and the Templars. Given the danger inherent in defying the Chantry (and thus risking being labeled an apostate or, worse, maleficarum), it is no shock that dealing with the Mages' Collective can be risky (if profitable) business. Since the almost universal collapse of the circle in the free marches, the Mages' Collective have become incredibly powerful in all the major cities and areas.

-The Qunari

Just as the Arishok warned the Champion of Kirkwall, the qunari did return. Their exact number is unknown to the people of the Free Marches, but their presence in the region is unmistakable. Few, if any outsiders are aware of their intent, and they are the subject of a great deal of misconceptions that make diplomacy difficult.
