Title: Give me a second
Description: 8-22-12 [iso: Kenny and Lucas]

Well, Rachel had to give Lauren credit where credit was due. Granted, she had approached the AV girl, but Rachel never would have thought to approach her, if it hadn't been for the girl herself. She had simply taken a spark of an idea and ran from there.
And run, Lauren apparently did. 5 members wasn't bad at all, and if Rachel could get Kendrick and Lucas to at least come to the first meeting, that would be 7, and then she was pretty sure they would be able to convince people to fill in. Rachel will never think that a box of candy is a waste of money again. She should probably just set up an account at the store, not that she minded, given the results.
She moved through the cafeteria line, with relative ease, a slight bounce to her step that wasn't there before. She looked around the cafeteria, and saw a familiar brunette head of hair, making a bee line for the table, she came to a stop in front of it, rocking slightly on her heels.
"Hey, how are you," She asked. "I need to ask you something, can I sit?"

Another day at school and Lucas was none the wiser to Rachel's activities or new friends. He was just going through his day as usual. Today he had been shoved into a locker whose door happened to be open and it broke skin and left a pretty nasty scar, so he had been forced to use his mutant ability on himself. An as per usual, that drained his energy.
When Rachel sat down beside him, he appeared as though he were reading a book, head propped up on one arm with his elbow rested on the table. This was a clever lie to keep people from messing with him while he slept, because that's exactly what he was doing.
The voice so close to him woke him and his head dropped a few inches as it slid off his palm before he caught himself, blinking at the world as he looked to Rachel. It took a moment to comprehend she'd spoken to him.
"Um... What did you need?"

Well, he didn't exactly invite her to sit down, which did not fit into Rachel's plans at all. She gave him a small smile, and perched on the seat next to him, setting her tray down, but not touching the food just yet.
She looked at him critically for a moment. She gently reached out a hand and placed it on his arm. "Are you okay?" She asked softly. They were kind of part of a buddy system now, and if she could help Lucas at all, she would, after all he had protected her from harm last week.
Rachel didn't normally use her power at school, because it could be dangerous, depending on who she was with. She was practicing when she was with people whose power she could identify, and knew wouldn't hurt her. Lucas looked tired though.
"I didn't mean to disturb you," She said. "I actually wanted to talk to you and Kendrick, about a vocal club."
She knew better than to call it a glee club again. They would decide on a name together.
"I got some help, and she recruited some people, and I was wondering if you would at least come on Thursday and check it out?" She asked hopefully.

What. The. Hell. She was touching him. People just didn't do that. Didn't she know he was trailer trash? She might catch lice or something. It wouldn't surprise him in the least. His sister had them and no one did anything about it since she hated shampoo and having her hair combed. It was gross.
"Yeah, peachy. Just tired," he responded shortly, sitting up a bit. She was doing this weird hovering thing, and he couldn't figure out why she didn't just sit down. Was it a defense mechanism or something? Like, was she ready to bolt for the door at a moment's notice and standing made it easier? She was still weird. Lucas wondered if he'd ever get used to her.
"Oh, right. Gay club. Didn't you talk about it? Is it happening?" he asked, trying to shake the sleep from his head. He wanted to join, actually, though he didn't want to voice it. He'd just go on pretending he was being dragged into it when he actually wanted a place to show off his only talent.

Rachel withdrew her hand like she was stung. She just didn't understand Lucas sometimes. Kenny and Lucas were so different, which wasn't a bad thing, but Rachel didn't know how to deal with Lucas sometimes, or most of the time, and she had only met him twice.
He struck her as the type of person that could make any girl run out of the room crying, but Rachel was stronger than that, and she would not do that.
"Sure you are," She said as she settled more firmly in the seat. "You know I could help you be not so tired, but I wouldn't want to do anything without your permission," She said, as she took a bite of her salad. The school actually didn't throw together that bad of a salad.
Rachel shook her head, and pointedly ignored Lucas' comment. It wasn't the first time she had run into someone who had a problem with gays. "It's happening," She said. "I hired Lauren Zizes to help me recruit," She said with a grin. "She can be very persuasive."

"I can help me be not-so-tired too, I just need sleep," he retorted. Someone offering to help was just such a foreign concept when he wasn't at church, and he didn't find himself taking so well to it. And what was she going to do anyhow? Buy him a coffee? Use a weird super power? He wasn't interested. He'd just sleep through his next few classes. He absorbed about the same amount of information awake as asleep anyhow.
"I guess my brother's going to do his best to drag me in anyhow so I might as well not even try resisting," he said with a roll of his eyes. "So when does this thing meet?"
Rachel Berry - June 11, 2012 02:17 PM (GMT)
Rachel did her best to hold back the eye roll that she wanted to give Lucas so very badly. It wouldn't do well to upset him before she got him to the meeting though. Rachel just looked down at her salad and picked at it, suddenly she had no appetite.
Then he mentioned Glee club again, and her excitement over the afternoon returned.
She grinned at Lucas then. "He did seem rather excited didn't he?" She commented. "Well, the meeting is Thursday after school, in Room 2A," She answered him. "If you know of anyone else that might be interested, please bring them along. The more the merrier."

"Alright, I'll be there," he agreed, then propped himself back up over the book and closed his eyes.
A chance to sing... It sounded awesome. Lucas was already planning to polish and tune his guitar to prepare for the day. He wanted to make a good first impression, though he didn't know why he bothered half of the time. He'd always be trailer trash. Nothing was going to change that as long as he was in high school.
He considered Rachel in the moments before he drifted back to sleep too. She was oddly nice, and he couldn't figure out a reason she would want to hang around him when he was such an ass and hang around Kenny when he was so crazy half the time. Mysteries of the universe, he supposed.

Rachel stared at Lucas in shock. He had agreed? So easily? Rachel didn't understand it at all. Usually people did the exact opposite of what she wanted, and she just didn't understand how she could all of sudden be getting what she wanted.
This like this didn't happen to Rachel. She was a Lima loser, who had to fight for every good thing that happened to her. Her fathers made sure that she had the best training money could buy, but that also left her very lonely. She pushed her talent as far as she could, to the exclusion of all else.
"That would be wonderful," She said, glancing at him excitedly, practically bouncing in her chair.
She sighed, realizing that Lucas had fallen asleep. She glanced around deciding that she didn't really care if Lucas slept. It wasn't as if people liked to listen to her or anything, so she was used to having to fend for herself.
She took a bite of salad. Maybe someday that would change.
