.personality: Kristoff is a loner. He has never really had a family to get attached to. He has moved from foster home to foster home most of his life, until finally he was adopted by Daniel and Alexandra Cambius and moved one final time to Westerville, Ohio. <br
The constant shuffling around has caused Kris to become self-reliant. He knows that he can’t really depend on anyone, so he has built walls around himself to shield his emotions. He feels things very deeply, he just never shows it. He has a tendency to use sarcasm to protect himself and his attitude has a tendency to get him in trouble. 
Kris’ stress relief is cooking. He picked it up when he was 8 from his foster mother. He doesn’t often get the chance to cook though. 
Kris tends to use sarcasm as a defense mechanism. He can come off as cold at first meeting, but in reality it is just a way to protect himself. People tend to not know what to make of Kris, because he doesn't really fit into any societal mold. No one would ever mistake him for a fun loving kind of guy. He is not too great at accepting human gestures of affection, as he was not given many growing up. 
Kris' defense mechanism has served him well in the past, well sort of. It has allowed him to achieve the goal of being isolated from his peers. When in all actuality the only thing he really wants is to be accepted into part of a group. To those who he allows close to him. which so far has only been his third foster mother, he is funny, in a dry sense of humor kind of way. Loyal, once you earn his friendship, he tends to keep them. The problem is no one has really fully earned that yet, and trustworthy, he tends to take secrets to his grave. Kris began to open up a bit at Dalton, and while he is still sarcastic, and still speaks his mind, he is not so defensive about meeting people. 
Kris is a no bullshit kind of guy. He calls things like he sees them. And he tells people exactly what he thinks of them good or bad. Kris has a tendency to push people away first so they can't reject him. His biggest fear is rejection. Rejection by people and by places. 
Kris is definitely defensive. It is something that was ingrained into him through foster care. He is not naturally defensive though. He enjoyed taking care of his families growing up, when he was allowed. If Kris had found a loving family to adopt him. his natural care taking tendencies would have come through. He would have been a calming influence to those around him. Instead he is harsh and jaded. Kris thought that if he could just be "good enough" then he would get adopted, but that never happened. So, he developed his bad ass persona to cover for the fact that he was severely disappointed by life. 
He is a good, but not great student, but certainly good enough to succeed at Dalton. His books were really the only thing he had growing up. He had no family of his own, so he lived vicariously in the worlds created by Mark Twain, Louisa May Alcott, and Harper Lee. He identified with the character of Boo Radley especially. a recluse, but longing for a family of his own.

.history: Kristoff’s mother and father left him in an emergency room when he was a baby, so he was raised “in the system”. He was bounced around from foster home to foster home all throughout his childhood, never settling in one place for too long. 
He was not a problem child, but he never really got settled in one place long enough to make friends. His foster homes in grade school weren’t that bad. The families were nice, they just didn’t want to keep him. The houses were clean, it wasn’t like he played Cinderella or anything. He hit a particularly bad stretch in Middle School. The fathers were more often than not either drunk or they just didn’t give a damn, one had even gone as far as to hit him a few times. The mother’s were just gold diggers, only out for the check from the state. Those situations changed him dramatically. He reverted in on himself and hardly spoke to anyone. When he did, he was sullen and angry. The social workers didn’t know what to do with him. 
Kris’ life really didn’t get any better when he moved onto high school. He was being fostered in a conservative town in Macon Ga. He liked Georgia well enough, he went to church every Sunday, much to his chagrin and he started to open up. His only problem was that he discovered that he liked boys and girls. He doesn’t like term bi-sexual, but instead uses the term Ambisexual. He knew better than to show his homosexual tendencies in a town like Macon, but then came Brad. He had been dating Sarah, Brad’s younger sister, when Brad came home to visit from Weselyan. He was a freshman and Kris was a Junior at the local public high school. Brad was gay and took an immediate liking to Kris. He literally swept him off his feet, taking everything and giving nothing. He made Kris question every set of relationships he ever knew. He trusted no one. 
The situation continued to deteriorate, because Sarah told the whole he was gay, when in fact he wasn’t so sure. He became bitter and very angry, lashing out at his family and what few friends he did manage to make. He was removed from that family, and placed into a state facility, where he lived for four months. Kris finally had a miracle happen to him when one day a family game into the house, and took a liking to him, not that he was trying mind you. The one drawback was the father had just gotten transferred to Westerville, Oh. for work. 
He was moved to Westerville, OH., where he is enrolled in court appointed anger management therapy. He is also set to attend Dalton Academy as a junior. Kris is really trying to make an effort at a fresh start. He has taken up sports, and tried to open up more to his sister, but he struggles every day. Kris is hoping that by attending Dalton, he can learn how to fit in better with his peers.
