Kas sighed, collapsing into his chair with a sigh. He'd felt mentally and emotionally drained for the last few days and who could blame him? He'd used a lot of power recently, more than he had in a long time and his powers were not as strong as they had been. Under using them had allowed them to atrophy like an unused muscle. Walking through Nissa's house launching furniture like that, he'd been surprised his power hadn't just levelled the place outright. It probably would have a couple thousand years ago, when he was using it on a regular basis and barely had to concentrate to rearrange his furniture.

He opened the bottle of apple juice in front of him and half filled his glass, savouring the smell of apples before he opened the carbonated water and finished filling the glass with that. He enjoyed his Apferschole in the morning and since he hadn’t had time for a decent cup of coffee this morning he was going to need it. He took a drink and opening the morning paper on his desk, turning to the business section to see how his stocks were doing after the acquisition of a small company that had developed a new bacterium which would be useful in his scientists’ studies. He read the paper and almost choked when he saw that he was actually down. Down?

He flipped through the section and found the headline. “Silhouette Se-Cures Virus Developer”, was quite prominent at the top of the second page of the business section. He growled, carefully putting down the glass in his hand before he reached over to his phone, hitting the button for his secretary.

“Therese, get me the CEO of Silhouette Incorporated on the phone. No questions, just do it!”

He hung up and stood, turning to look out of the floor-to-ceiling windows that looked out onto the Thames river. He couldn’t believe it. It hadn’t been more than half a week since the incident with Nissa and she’d yet again stolen something valuable from him. She was pissing him off and if she wasn’t so damned sexy and important to him he probably would have killed her when he’d taken the box back. But when he’d felt the urge to his power had fallen flat and he hadn’t been able to. Probably because he had to apply his willpower to affect a change in the world, and he didn’t really want her harmed. Hell, if anyone even raised a finger against her he’d tear their fucking arm off.

His secretary altered him to the fact that Nissa was on the line, sounding somewhat surprised that the powerful woman had agreed to talk to him without having arranged it and Kas hit the button on the phone to connect the line.

“What are you playing at?” He demanded, not bothering for niceties. He wasn’t in the mood for this shit, he wanted to get down to business and she was in his way. He refused to let this stand.

Oh life was good. Sooooo good. Nothing warmed her heart more then the headlines. The deal had been finalized last night. The business news were buzzing with the swift and decisive purchase of the highly sort after company. They called her business acumen, wonderus, legendary, a precognitive move into the future. Oh she did love this line of work. A smile played at her lips as she sipped her cinnamon coffee with plenty of cream and sugar flipping through the paper. Her wrist still ached if she tried to life anything heavy but it was mostly healed now. Every time she felt a twinge she would call J’rome into her office and demand to know the next company on Lothars list of acquisitions. So far she had bids in at 5 companies he was close to sealing deals with. All of them had replied to her interested in her offers which were blowing Lothars out the water. This male had no idea who he was dealing with.

The warm sweet coffee soothed her anger as she flipped the page, his stocks were down an incredible 10% this morning. In a company like his that was a disaster. People would see it as a telling of the future. She smiled and flipped the page, J’rome walked in papers in hand and laid them out in order for his boss.

“His next deal is due tomorrow morning, he meets Mr. Natako, head biologist at the Katinga Center. Rumours are he has a possible answer to altzimers… it will be huge…

Your next meeting with Mr. Banksmith is in an hour, he seems very excited that your offer doubles that of what Lothar offered for his shipping company…

I moved your lunch to 2.00 and your evening meeting with the Mayor will now be at the Ramsden Hotel, I booked a table for three… I believe is he bringing in his wife this evening….”

Nissa looked up and gave the man a smile. He was priceless, she would pay out the nose for a man like this. He was efficient, on time, a perfectionist and a total man whore. She loved him to death, one day he would be as ruthless as her. She began to sign the papers he placed before her.

“J’rome, your talent is perfection…. Tell me how did you find out about that meeting tomorrow….”

The man blushed slightly. He was a total man whore, male or female he wanted them all. Most of all he wanted her but knew he would never get her so he settled for indulging in his dark desire with anyone he wanted. His boss let him get away with almost anything. Yet he knew if he ever betrayed her, something in his gut said he would not survive.

“Slept with his secretary… not the female one mind….”

Nissa chuckled, yes she did like a ruthless man.

“J’rome… what would I do without you? Have a meeting set up with Mr. Nakato this afternoon... tripple Lothars offer...”

He chuckled took back the papers. “I don’t know ma’ma… take over the world? This afternoon? I will see it done...”

She laughed outright as he nodded his head in respect and moved from the room. It was not seconds later when his voice came over the two-way on her desk.

“Ma’ma, your expected call has come through, shall I leave him on hold?”

J’rome sounded as ruthless as her right then. She chuckled sat down and brushed some fluff from her immaculate dress suit. Sipped her coffee, rearranged her papers then settled back pressing the speaker phone button.

“Put him through J’rome…”

Oh this would be fun.

“What are you playing at?”

She grinned from ear to ear and waited. Then she spoke her voice light and freindly, as if there were nothing amiss in the world.

“Morning Mr. Loather… I trust you are calling to congratulate my latest addition… wonderful isn’t it…

This new bacteria could open the way into regenerative cells improvements… a very lucky buy I must say….”

Was that a growl? Or was he grinding his teeth together. She smiled and sipped her coffee. Her wrist ached, she had spent more money in three days then she had ever done in her business career but life was soooo good.

“Morning Mr. Loather… I trust you are calling to congratulate my latest addition… wonderful isn’t it…"

Kas struggled to hold himself in check. This obstinate woman had interfered in his business dealings and stolen a valuable deal out from under him. He had lost a near catastrophic amount of money on that deal and he'd need to scrabble just to make it up.

"This new bacteria could open the way into regenerative cells improvements… a very lucky buy I must say….”

He let out a low growl and picked up the glass on his desk and threw it at the window, watching the glass and liquid inside move straight through the window like it wasn't there and sail down to the street below, unconcerned about the effects it might have on those below. He refused this beautiful, annoying obstacle stand in the way of his business. He’d put a stop to this right quick, and soon, if she didn’t back off. If she went near one of his deals again he’d- He’d… Hell, he’d probably piss and moan like an impotent prick and then bend over and take it up the tailpipe.

“Don’t patronise me, you stole my deal with a very profitable company and we both know it. I don’t want to see Silhouette Incorporated anywhere near my business interests again, do you understand, meine weniger Herzdieb?*”

He had no doubt she’d understand what he’d said but for some reason he couldn’t bring himself to say any of the rude, profane and otherwise offensive names that had flashed through his mind to her. Regardless of what she’d done she was still more to him than she realised, and if it meant having her he would have liquidated his assets and given her just about anything, but he wasn’t going to say that out loud, especially over the phone.

{*Translation: My little Heart-thief.}

She had to bite her lip to stop herself from laughing. This was classic, she had never felt so alive, fighting with this man. She would show him, no one hurt her and got away with it. Basterd, he probably didn’t even realise he had hurt her, so like her father, he had believed his little love taps were his way of strengthening his children and taming his wife. Hell her mother was the least angry woman she had ever known. No way would she end up like that and least of all to a man like this. She licked her lips, making this man submit to her sent a shiver through her. Her skin heated and her eyes glowed. Oh yes he would learn the hard way she was not a woman to fuck with.

“Don’t patronise me, you stole my deal with a very profitable company and we both know it. I don’t want to see Silhouette Incorporated anywhere near my business interests again, do you understand, meine weniger Herzdieb?*”

Heart thief? Hardly. Thief yes but the last thing she wanted anything to do with was his heart. She reached to her desk and pressed the red light button which would indicate for J’rome to come in and loudly give her information on her next meeting. Mr. Banksmith. Oh this would be sweet.

The door opened and J’rome with a grin on his lips walked forward and in a very professional voice spoke.

“Ma’ma I am sorry to disturb your meeting, but you requested me to inform you when Mr. Banksmith arrived. He is waiting in the meeting room, breakfast is laid out like you ordered and the contracts are waiting.

Your lawyer said he would be a little late but that the preliminary amount has been accepted…..”

Mr. Banksmith… owner of Versatile Shipping, second on Kasimir Lothars buyout list. She knew all about his business, called in a few favors she was owed and knew what he wanted, what he needed and who he paid to get it. Life was good when you could blackmail and buy your way into the companies you needed. Even if it was just for revenge.

“Thankyou J’rome, be sure he remains comfortable, I shall be along momentarily….

Mr. Lothar if you will excuse me… I have a deal to close…. I believe you know Edward Banksmith… charming man… if a bit on the large side… likes cats did you know… has taken a real shine to me….

Have a pleasant morning won’t you?”

Sugary sweet and silky her voice could not hold back the humor and the joy she was feeling. She then hung up on him, yes hung up! Before he could shout down the phone at her. Her eyes sparkling with mirth as she stood straightened her suit and moved into making yet another stellar steal… literally.

With a double take at the phone Kas felt his hands tensing into fists, the room beginning to ripple as his anger rose inside him. She was going to steal the shipping company as well? He needed that bloody deal to secure the shipping lanes between San Diego and Tijuana to finish connecting his network between several of the American east coast cities. Fucking treacherous, stubborn, backstabbing contemptuous bitch!

“Thank you J’rome, be sure he remains comfortable, I shall be along momentarily….

Mr. Lothar if you will excuse me… I have a deal to close…. I believe you know Edward Banksmith… charming man… if a bit on the large side… likes cats did you know… has taken a real shine to me….

Have a pleasant morning won’t you?”

He heard a click and let out and lashed out with his hand, not touching anything but nevertheless sending the phone right into the wall where it smashed and partially lodged there, buried in the wood while a stream of German expletives and profanity poured from his lips as his stalked to the door. He wrenched it open with a hard yank and didn’t notice the fact that it didn’t rebound off the wall, the knob having caught in the wooden wall as he stalked into the office.

“Therese, call Kincaid, I want him to inquire the staff as to who blabbed about the bacteria acquisition and who blabbed about the Versatile Shipping sale. Somebody slipped company secrets, I want them found and lined up against the wall. Crucify them, and when that’s done remind everyone that anybody caught divulging company secrets to anyone not under my employ will spend a sizeable portion of their remaining life in an eight by ten!”

With that he stalked back into his office, confident that Kincaid with his telepathic abilities would root out the traitor quickly. Nissa had gotten hold of secrets that only a few people had known about, and anyone who had ratted him out would spend fifteen years in a prison cell for Industrial Espionage, he could guarantee that. He seized the door and tore it from the wall, slamming it hard enough to make it rattle on its hinges. He was pissed off and had to reign in his power or he was going to seriously break something.

“I’ll get you, Nissa. I’ll get you good…”

He pulled out his cell phone, attaching a scrambler to it so that nobody could trace the call or find the record and dialled a number. He’d dialled this particular number four times in the last fifty years and only when he really needed to gain an edge over the competition that wasn’t above board. Miccah wasn’t a nice man, and he had too many connections with the gang activity in London to do anything but make money through illicit dealings, something Kas was more than happy to help with.

“Panthiras?”

“Mickey, I have a bit of work for you. You’ll be receiving a package later today with a few tasks I want you to carry out. When you get it, do everything possible to hamper and sabotage everything in there. I don’t want to know the details, but just make sure you run that shit into the ground. Just don’t kill her. Anyone else is fair game.”

“Usual fee.”

“Yes, I know. It’ll be in your account within the hour.”

Kas hung up, holding the cell phone to his lips for a moment as he thought about what he’d just done. Had it been the right move? He didn’t know, but he did know that Nissa’s dealings would now be hampered by fourteen separate gangs and thirteen minor companies that literally had no tangible connection Kasimir, no matter how deep anyone looked. It would cost him a few hundred thousand dollars, but if it worked it was worth it. He’d show that bitch for one-upping him.

In the meantime he was going to go round there and politely (read: with as much force as possible) ask Mr Banksmith what he was playing at. He exited his office and headed down to the garage, taking the limo to Silhouette Inc. headquarters, which was located not far from Lothar Enterprises HQ on the Isle of Dogs. When he got there he browbeat the woman at the front desk into telling him which floor Nissa’s office was on and headed for the elevator, ignoring her protests. When he reached the floor he stalked through the offices toward her office, charging straight past the secretary, the pitiful little man he’d heard on the phone and slammed the door open, not bothering to turn the handle.

“Right, what the hell is the meaning of this?” he demanded, a picture of righteous fury outlined in the doorway, wearing a black suit with a gray t-shirt and, even if he did say so himself, looking every inch the powerful businessman he had become.

Nissa paused before the board room door. A shiver, something pushed at the side of her mind. She turned and looked behind her. It was like the universe had taken a breath. Kasimir. His name came unbidden into her mind. What was he doing? Shaking away the feeling she had maybe gone too far with him she pushed open the door and walked into the room. A huge smile on her face as Mr. Banksmith stood and smoothed down his over tight suit. He may not been the most charming of men, but his shipping company could put a huge dent in Lothar’s takings if she played this right. The man was over weight but he had a kind face, he wanted to sell so he could settle down with his new wife (half his age) and his grandkids.

She took the seat across from him after shaking his hand. He had a sweaty hand. Hell she hated men who had sweaty palms. With J’rome to her right they began speaking about how pleased she was he had agreed to this meeting. The man so besotted with the woman before her started going on about the other people who had been offering for his company. Lothar seemed to be his most popular. She acted supirsed and nodded, hell she even complimented Kasimir and his work ethic. Then she broke the offer and the man stopped breathing. The contract as pushed towards him as the lawyer walked in and his pen hit the paper.

Nissa moved behind him as a commotion erupted outside the meeting room. She scented him before she saw him. Her hand moved into a fist. Hell she hated knowing how close he had been to her, for over 10 years he had been in the building just on the other side of the Isle. Shaking her head she moved the contract towards herself and took the pen J’rome offered her. Her eyes flicking to the full length glass doors as Kasimir walked towards them she waited and then as he entered his anger filling the room. My god he looked amazing.

“Right, what the hell is the meaning of this?”

“One second please Mr. Lothar…. You’re a little early for your meeting….”

She finished her signature, handed her pen to J’rome and her lawyer took the contract. Mr. Banksmith on the other hand was emitting a scent close to terror and piss. Nissa raised an eyebrow at him as she gave Kasimir a smile. She ignored the shiver of anticipation which ran through her.

“As you’re here early I suppose I can squeeze you in Mr. Lothar. If you will follow me to my office…”

She picked her words really carefully. She could have said accompany but that would imply she saw him as an equal and right now, he was less then she. So he would follow her, or he would sit in that meeting room alone for the day. His anger was like a power blanket in the room. She let it roll over her skin as she walked past him and purposefully moved so she brushed against him. She was dressed in her tight suit, her breasts covered with elegance with her one buttoned jacket and her crisp white shirt.

“One second please Mr. Lothar…. You’re a little early for your meeting….”

She leaned over and put pen to paper, and Kas could smell Mr Banksmith about to soil himself. He didn’t care, that bastard had agreed to his offer and they’d been meeting tomorrow to close the deal, and here he was going back on his word. He could smell anticipation and a tinge of desire from Nissa and it sparked a flame of desire within himself. He wanted her in spite of the fact she’d stolen his son’s box from him, but he’d realised she couldn’t have known before she’d stolen it who he was. So he’d forgiven her for that and was willing to put that behind him, so long as she ceased sabotaging him.

“As you’re here early I suppose I can squeeze you in Mr. Lothar. If you will follow me to my office…”

She brushed against him as she walked past and he felt his eyes instinctively slide shut as he breathed in her scent and shuddered from lust, a predatory smile splitting his face as he turned and followed her without question, despite recognising the way she’d phrased what she said. He didn’t care, she could have ordered him to crawl on his hands and knees and chances are he would have done it, for her. He wanted her to be his, but he was already hers whether she wanted it or not. She was everything he had wanted in a mate, even as she undercut him and hampered his efforts to make money. He needed a lot of legitimate cash flow to disguise his illegal earnings through arms dealing and illegal transportation.

And the way her ass swayed back and forth in that tight, sexy skirt was not helping. He wasn’t even angry anymore, he just wanted her. He followed her into her office and shut the door behind him, turning to face her as she faced him. He didn’t let her speak, seizing the back of his jacket collar and pulling it straight off his head to land on the floor while taking the two steps that separated them and pulling her to him, leaning down to claim her lips with his immediately, most of the tension immediately draining from him as he groaned against her lips at the taste of her. The memory of how she’d tasted at the party mixed with the current happening and when he wrapped his arms around her to hold her close he couldn’t help running his hands over her back through her clothing, just wanting to feel her.

He knew he could never get enough of this woman, it just wasn’t possible.

As she walked down the corridor to her office she could feel his eyes on her back. Boring into her shoulder. He was angry, oh so angry and sick as she was she was revelling it in. the scent of his lust and desire permeated the air as they walked and she licked her lips. Good thing he could not see. Nissa would have herself back under control by the time they reached her office. She pushed up the door and let him walk in behind her. Suddenly her huge sprawling office felt too small with his presence in it. She had an urge to put her large hand carved desk between then but she would not give him the satisfaction. Turning around she lifted her chin to show she was no intimidated by his show of power. When he reach behind him and pulled off his jacket she frowned slightly. What was he doing?

He didn’t manage to get another thought out as he body crowded hers and he took possession of her mouth. She went tense and put her hands on his chest trying to push him away but his strength was fair greater then her own. His scent enveloped her and despite her wanting to fight against him she felt her eyes rolling closed. Oh good gods he tasted fantastic. Her hands tightened in his shirt as his tongue trace the edge of her lips and goddess help her she parted her lips, an uncontrollable desire she cursed. Kasimir taking no chances she would come back to her real mind took the opportunity to delve into her mouth with his tongue.

Then his hand started to move up and down her back and a shiver caressed her body. What was wrong with her? This violent man had come into her office and grabbed her into a kiss she had not wanted and she was melting under his forceful attitude. She could not swallow down the moan which rose in her throat as her hands moved from gripping his shirt to being on his shoulders then around his neck. Her nails shifting close to claws as she drew them over the skin on the back of his neck. Her body melded to his as he bore down on her increasing the passion of the kiss.

She shivered and responded, her tongue coming out to meet his her claws grazing the back of his neck. She had to stop this, she had to push him away. But he tasted so good, she was being pulled under his spell. She found herself being swept up in his passion as she ate greedily at his mouth. Her body tinged and hummed with his presence. Heat was pooling in her stomach, god she wanted him. Wanted more of that mind shattering bliss he had given her only four days before. She could feel how aroused he was his erection pressing against her stomach. She could not resist the urge.

One of her hands move from his neck and then between them to brush over his straining erection. She felt him tense when she touched him and his kiss became more demanding, bordering on violent but… oh god she wanted it like this. Then a spike of pain shot through her mind and she realised the hand she was rubbing him with was the broken wrist. It throbbed and mocked her weakness as she hissed suddenly realises where she was and what she was doing. Pushing him away from her rather violently she cradled her wrist to her chest from a second until the throbbing stopped. How could she be so stupid, to forget he was the one who did this? Her eyes burned with unfulfilled desire and anger.

“That will never happen again Mr. Lothar….”

Her voice cold as she rolled her shoulders back and left her throbbing wrist fall to her side.

This was heaven, he was holding the sun in his arms and it burned, scorched him with its heat as he felt her lips open beneath his and he took the opening, deepening the kiss even as her arms moved to wrap around his neck, pulling him closer. The feel of her was irresistable and the taste of her was addictive, making him crave more even as he slaked his desire for the feel of her lips against his, her nails, which felt like claws, scraping down his neck and over his back.

He felt her tongue brush against his as he groaned, unable to get enough as he wanted her naked, wanting her hot and panting, lying beneath him as he thrust into her and took her for his own. Wanted her straddling him and riding him hard as she staked her claim on him, marked him irrevocably. The one thing he wanted most, the only thing he wanted ever, was her. Nothing else mattered so long as he had her.

She lowered her hand from his neck, brushing over his erection and eliciting a growl from deep within him, his whole body tensing from the pleasure of her touch and the release that touch seemed to promise. He stepped things up a bit, his touch bordering on violent as he stroked his fingers up and down her back, urging her on with his own touch and silently begging for her to complete it, to grant him the release he'd been needing for the last few days but hadn't found. He hadn't wanted any other woman but her and he could never be bothered pleasuring himself, he'd much rather seduce her here in her office.

Then suddenly she broke the kiss, hissing as if in pain. He felt himself being pushed away while Nissa cradled her arm against her chest. Kas reached up with his hand to press his fingers against his lips, his eyes fixated on her arm as she spoke.

“That will never happen again Mr. Lothar….”

She moved it to her side and Kas strode forward, seizing her elbow and lifting her arm so he could see her wrist, noticing the telltale signs of a recent injury. She had been hurt, injured.

"You're hurt." He growled, the sound roiling up from his throat before it was cut off by speech, his eyes moving up to hers and lit from within by the flame of anger. "Who did this?"

He destroy the one who had dared to raise a hand against her, wipe him from the Earth and strike him from the record like taking an eraser to a sketch. Nobody harmed her, not unless they wanted to answer to him.

She watched his fingers brush is own lips. Like he was trying to savor this feeling. She felt a thrill that he wanted to remember a simple kiss. But then she saw where his eyes where looking her wrist did he remember that he had pushed her over the couch only a few nights before.

"You're hurt."

Well duh… of course she was he could have killed her. The only thing that had mattered to him that night was the box. The box in which something bad happened. The box which represented the son he should not have had. For their kind it was impossible, supposed to be. Yet he had a son, she wasn’t sure how she felt about that. He had loved someone else enough to change the laws of their people and have a child. How could a man move forward and love another like that. She did not believe it was possible.

Was it possible he did not realise he had hurt her? Which was different from her father because he always knew when he had hurt his children, when he had hurt his wife. Kas didn’t, was that better? Or worse?

"Who did this?"

She blinked and pulled her arm from his grip. He actually, honestly and truly did not realise he had harmed her. Blackouts during a rage were not a good sign. She shook her head and narrowed her eyes. What more sign did she need that he was not the man for her? Okay so he made her burn and made her body long for things she could never have.

“I’m looking at him…”

She moved back so she was leaned back against her desk her ankles crossed in front of her.

“You don’t remember the scene from Tornado in my living room?”

Nissa jerked her hand out of his grasp and he let her, not wanting to aggravate the injury. He could see her evaluating him and he wondered why she was looking at him so intensly. What was so weird about him wanting to know who had harmed his mate? He felt it was perfectly reasonable to want to know, and to want to kill the bastard. So why was she looking at him like he was a clock that just wouldn't work?

“I’m looking at him…”

It took a moment for her words to sink in, for him to realise what she meant. Once he did though he opened his mouth before closing it again, actually rocking back on his heels as she moved to lean against her desk. He'd hurt her, how? He'd thought it would be impossible for him to harm her with his power. It was based off his will which meant that since he didn't want to see her harmed it couldn't hurt her.

“You don’t remember the scene from Tornado in my living room?”

He thought back over it, remembering appearing in her room and throwing her into couch. She must have landed badly from that and broken her wrist. He covered his eyes with his hand, visibly deflating as he realised that he had caused her pain. He took a couple of steps back, stumbling into the door as he thought over that. He'd lashed out in anger and grief and had ended up hurting his mate. He'd always sworn he'd never be the man who did that and yet he had.

He drew in a shuddering breath and lowered his hand, a resolute look on his face as he calmly crossed the distance between them again, this time as a man humbly approaching his woman, hoping she didn't tell him to leave.

"I'm truly sorry I hurt you, that's the last thing I wanted. I only wanted to retrieve my... The box." He held out his hand for her to place the injured wrist in it. "May I fix it? Please?"

He may have made a mistake but he wasn't going to fall to pieces over it. He'd fix it, apologise and then make it up to her. He'd never been one to sit around moaning about his fuck ups, he was the man who made it right when he messed up. And he wasn't going to do any differently now.

He just hoped she'd give him the chance.

She watched his face. He looked like he had been kicked in the gut, like someone had cut down the middle of his body and let his guts spill. Was it possible he hasn’t meant it? That it had been an accident. Memories of her mother’s bruises the next morning and the words, “It was only an accident dearling he didn’t mean it…” ran through her mind. She dropped her eyes from his and clenched her injured hand into a fist. Yet something still pulled at her, he seemed so sincere. He leaned back against the door and covered his face. Nissa watched him as he rubbed his eyes. it was like he could not believe be had touched her, that it was him who had hurt her. Could she believe it… she wanted to but she knew that was the drive to mate? She wanted her mate but she would not have a man who would harm her and forget about it.

When he pushed off the door and walked towards her she lifted her head and rolled her shoulders back. He looked like a small child who had spilt milk or broke his mother’s vase. He looked at her regret in his eyes. Something pulled at her heart and she knew she was falling under that spell again.

"I'm truly sorry I hurt you, that's the last thing I wanted. I only wanted to retrieve my... The box."

His hand reached out and she looked at it. What did he want now?

"May I fix it? Please?"

She blinked and looked at him. her wrist tingled but it was nothing that she would not be able to heal by herself.

“It is fine Mr. Lothar… it will heal…”

She walked around him and pulled the door to her office open she gestured for him to leave. She could not let his sudden change in attitude sway her. What would happen next time he was angry with her. She was not confident enough to believe she would never piss him off again. when he looked like the world had fallen around him she tried top push back the aching pain in her chest. When he made moves to leave she lifted her hand her fingers tips brushing his shirt.

“Look…. If I had known… the box…. I would never have taken the job… I don’t steal because I am board…. I do it….. hell…. I don’t know….

Just… I’m sorry alright…. I’m sorry for your loss….”

Hell she felt like such a weakness right then. What was wrong with her?

“It is fine Mr. Lothar… it will heal…”

Kas lowered his arm, nodding. She didn't want him to heal the wound he'd caused, wouldn't allow him to fix his mistake. It was a rejection that struck him hard and it illustrated something to him. He didn't think she would give in any time soon. She obviously had no need of him and didn't want him. If they ended up sleeping together and the mark really did appear, would she accept him? He didn't know, but it was good this had been pointed out to him.

While she opened the door and motioned for him to leave he stared at his hand. He knew she was what he wanted, but if the woman chose not to accept the bond between mates, he would be left impotent for life. Even without her, he refused to subject himself to that. Never having the mark was better to have it and lose it. He turned and made his way to the door, stopping when she reached out and stopped him, her finger tips brushing his shirt.

“Look…. If I had known… the box…. I would never have taken the job… I don’t steal because I am board…. I do it….. hell…. I don’t know….

Just… I’m sorry alright…. I’m sorry for your loss….”

He flashed his jacket from the floor to his hand and lifted his spare hand up, taking gentle hold of the figners that had brushed his shirt and pressing his lips to the back of her hand for a moment, making sure she met his gaze before he lowered her hand in his and released it with a sigh.

"Please, stop undercutting my business. I'll call my dogs off before they do something I'll regret and we can just try to be civilised about this. I want you, and I won't give up on having you, but I'll never allow you to come to harm if I can prevent it. If you ever want me, you know where I am."

With that he turned and walked away from her, the hardest thing he'd ever done, and yet the most necessary one as well. The aura of power he'd worn on his way in was still there, but it was more like a comfortable jacket than a sweeping cloak now and he noticed less people backing away from fear and awe. Now they merely watched as he strode through the office to the stairs, not willing to wait for the elevator he looked up and down the shaft and flashed to the bottom.

He pulled his cellphone out and dialled the number for Mickey, not receiving an answer but leaving a message knowing he'd get it within a few hours. Mickey would never follow through a job without making sure it was still wanted. The man was a scumbag, but he was thorough and proffessional.

Now tired, and not willing to head back to the office he went to meet Manuel in the limo and headed for home, in need of some extremely strong drink to ease the hollow feeling in his stomach. Walking away from her had been the hardest thing in his life, but it was necessary. He'd never have her as his if she was always on the run from his constant chasing.

Oh why was he being so sweet? His fingers were warm on hers as he lifted her hand to his lips. His eyes locked on hers and for a second she felt like the lowest scum on the earth. Would she take his apology? Yeah she knew she would. Hell no male had treated her like this before. Yeah he scared her when he had been pulsing with power, his power over her terrified her. With a sigh she watched him as he looked into her eyes. she didn’t know what she was going to do about him, or about the feeling she had which were conflicted at best.

"Please, stop undercutting my business. I'll call my dogs off before they do something I'll regret and we can just try to be civilized about this. I want you, and I won't give up on having you, but I'll never allow you to come to harm if I can prevent it. If you ever want me, you know where I am."

She watched him go and closed the office door behind him. What was she going to do about him? Her office was filled with his scent. Her lips tingled from his kiss and she wanted more of him. Hell what was she going to do? She had taken a step tonight by apologizing and whatever retribution he had planned for her he seemed to have decided to cancel. She was not sure she really wanted to mate with him, but maybe they could pull this out of the gutter. Maybe….
