BRISTOL, Tenn. -- Danny O'Quinn Jr. informed JD Motorsports owner Johnny Davis following Friday's night's race at Bristol Motor Speedway that he was leaving the team.
O'Quinn finished 32nd in the race due to an accident.
O'Quinn"This came a quite a shock to me, Davis said. "Danny was consistently moving up in the driver points."
The JD Motorsports team has fielded three cars at many Nationwide Series races this year. Johnny and Lori Davis are in the process of finding a new driver for the team. The No. 01 Chevrolet remains solidly in the top 30 in owners' points.
"Our program has flourished in a very lean year for independent teams," Davis said. "We have stepped up every aspect of our operation. We have approached sponsor acquisition with a zest that is beginning to produce results. I don't know what tomorrow will bring, but we will move on and grow this business. We will consider all of our options."
O'Quinn's best finish in 24 starts this season was 18th, accomplished four different times. He had a 26.4 average finish and was 20th in points.
In 72 career Nationwide Series starts, O'Quinn has one top-five and five top-10s.
