This is Sam, don’t call him anything but Sam, seriously, he won’t like it. Well, I suppose you can get away with calling him Denbrough. He’s not a nice man, in fact he’s a bit of an asshole. Working as a merc for Whitesand, you’ll recognise him as being one of the guys with the big guns. Sam doesn’t much like people, at least he tries not to. He’s not one of those evasive types that will change the subject if you ask him an awkward question, if he’s in a good mood he’ll walk away but catch him in a bad mood and he’ll tell you where to go. Despite making a point of showing people he doesn’t care he seems to be rather eager to stop people from dying, though chances are if he has to save your life he’s going to have something sarcastic and/or nasty to say to you afterwards. Basically, it’s all an act, but you’re not going to get through it. Bottom line is he doesn’t want to care about you and he definitely doesn’t want you to care about him. Also because he had a young son that died he’s going to be very uncomfortable around kids (probably anyone under 16).
He’s in need of everything, really. Friends, well acquaintances, will be people that can put up with his constant bad moods and that know when to shut up or maybe someone that he saves from zombies who just won’t leave him alone afterwards. Enemies, anyone that endangers him or the people he works with and people that piss him off. Loves, honestly, the only time in his life he’s experienced love was when his son was born, so I don’t know, I’d love to hear ideas but someone would really have to get under his skin to get that far with him.<p>

So, ideas for cookies?

Meet Sam's ... "boss" for lack of a better word, though he might think of her as one of the squints he has to protect who just happens to have the same last name as the founder of Whitesand rather than a "boss." Not that Caroline knows or cares what he thinks.
She refers to him as "Mr. Denbrough" because she's terrible at reading people and has no idea he prefers Sam. It'd be amusing if her oblivious-to-human-emotions personality irks him. Caroline wouldn't pick up on Sam not liking people so they can have plenty of awkward work-related exchanges.

xD Yeah I think he’ll generally find her irksome for many reasons, mostly because she’s his boss and because she’s a scientist. Really he think’s they’re wasting their time trying to cure the zombies but since he doesn’t have anything else to do with his life he’s going along for the ride. I think in conversation he’d try not to be as asshole-ish as he is with most people (just because she’s the boss) but at the same time he’d still be pretty blunt with her, which would be doubly hilarious if she didn’t even realise he was doing it.

I think that Tommy and Sam would have alot of fun together. Tommy isn't an asshole but he's definitely a fan of biting sarcasm. I don't know if Sam would like Tommy or not. Tommy isn't exactly uber-friendly but he knows when to give someone their space. He would definitely respect Sam and I can see them working together often since both of them can handle themselves fairly well. Tommy wouldn't try to turn Sam into a "good guy" but I can definitely see Tommy poking fun at Sam. Maybe we can turn this into some kind of strange bromance? I dunno, I was thinking the whole older cop/younger cop routine. Sam might like Tommy but he tries not to show it and Tommy has alot of fun trolling Sam. xD

LOL. Love it. The cop suggestion totally made me think of The Rookie with Clint Eastwood and Charlie Sheen, only at the end of all this Sam will still be an asshole. Since he’s not really the sort of person to resort to violence so Tommy should be fine trollin’ away as long as he can put up with the verbal assaults. Occasionally Sam would offer him little bits of advice on things in a sort of ‘look I don’t really care if you get eaten by zombies but…’ sort of way, which won’t necessarily mean that he likes Tommy, just that he doesn’t quite hate him as much as he hates other people.

TOMMY O'MALLEY - December 3, 2011 12:18 AM (GMT)
Sweet! Would you be down for a thread, maybe?

EDITH BECKENBAUER - December 14, 2011 09:36 AM (GMT)

Sam's just too big of a dismissive ass-hat for Edie to respect him in any way, but she would realize that he's pretty entertaining as far as his sarcasm goes. And at this point in the game, she'd probably sit around throwing back drinks with a grizzly during her very infrequent down time if it meant she could get her mind off of work.

Also, there's probably a bit of envy there, since he's (presumably) been outside of the encampment for extended periods of time, while she's been glued to technology since they've arrived, getting shit put together and making sure it's all running properly and whatnot. Not to mention keeping tabs on all the other Areas.

So... yeah. She hates him, but she can't keep herself away for too long.

She calls him 'Denbrough' because she refuses to call him by his preferred name but she's not willing to come up with some cutesy pootsy bullshit. If she gives him a nickname, she'd feel like she cared too much.

SAM DENBROUGH - December 14, 2011 02:17 PM (GMT)
    Sam and Edith

I think most conversations between them would start with him saying ‘Either sit down and pour yourself a drink or shut up and fuck off.’ He would annoy and make fun of the fact that everyone (read: just Sam) thinks she sits around playing with walkie-talkies all day and trying to update her facebook status.

He’d be drawn to irritating her, mostly because she gives back what she gets rather than sitting there and taking it and, really, that’s what he wants; he needs people who treat him like a big asshole waste of space.

And he wouldn’t mind her calling him Denbrough… just because he’s assuming that not minding it will piss her off more. He’d probably call her Beckenbauer just ‘cause he calls everyone by their surname… I think it’s because he wants people to think that he can’t be bothered to remember their first names...

If he knew how she felt about her family being dead/missing/zombified he’d very quietly (well, silently) feel a little sympathy for her...but he wouldn’t say anything ‘cause he’s an asshole. XD

EDITH BECKENBAUER - December 14, 2011 10:37 PM (GMT)
These two will be like Rory & Riley in Give Me a Reason x10, but they'd act like they don't give a shit.

Yes, everything you just said. <3 Except she'd NEVER tell him about her family issues. Well, as long as he keeps up the careless charade.

CASSANDRA JENSEN - December 14, 2011 11:32 PM (GMT)
She will have to be constantly reminded that
he prefers to be called Sam. She has just always
gone through like giving people the titles they
deserve or just plain manners. She is kind of
a suck up and would likely listen to any vent
of a bad mood he has without a complaint.
It would probably wind up in her journal that
she writes in daily.

Maybe eventually, if they ever got absurdly drunk enough, Sam might let slip that he had a son that died? Idek, that’d probably be a lot later on... I don’t know I might just be thinking about revealing his very limited soft squishy side because I think Edie is a bit bamf… plus they would have beautiful blonde babies I mean… what? >> FML.

    Sam and Cassandra
Sam isn’t a massive fan of, well anyone, but he especially dislikes the scientist brigade and he hates the fact that he has to risk his own life taking care of them. If she got in his face and annoyed him, or was just unlucky enough to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, he would be pretty nasty to her xD Because that’s how he rolls.

EDITH BECKENBAUER - December 15, 2011 05:39 AM (GMT)

If you ask me, I love the idea of Edie coming to terms with HER TRUE FEEEELINGSSSS and the fact that she really does think he's a good guy underneath it all, sooner or later. And if he did ever tell her about losing his son... OMG

SAM DENBROUGH - December 16, 2011 12:43 AM (GMT)
    Sam and Edie
SHHH! Don’t go telling anyone he’s actually a good person! It’s all lies! He’s an asshole. HONEST.

Anyway, I had a thought (it might be a silly though but really you’ve known me long enough now to know that at least 95% of what comes from my brain is silly) I propose a sort of game, if you will, in which Edie and Sam see how annoying they can be to each other, just to piss the other off which can gradually escalate and result in her finding the photos he keeps of his son and then there can be a sort of ‘holy shit’ moment and she could stop trying to annoy him because she’d feel bad about it but not mention to him that she knew. He’d get even more annoyed that she’s not playing anymore so he’d be even more of an asshole and eventually she could snap and there could be a dramatic ‘I KNOW YOUR DEEP DARK SECRET!’ moment and he’d be all ‘…shit.’

… after that we stray in to Awkward Land, a magical place that most of my character seem to have season passes for…

JACE BOUCHARD - December 30, 2011 02:30 AM (GMT)
I'm not sure what these two could do, but I like you, do we should plot sometime. :]

EVANGELINE BRENNAN - January 25, 2012 04:53 AM (GMT)
I can see a lot of: "Oh yeah? Well fuck you, Sam!" in Evie's future with Sam. He'd frustrate her and she wouldn't take it. I suspect they'd have a lot of heated exchanges take place.

SAM DENBROUGH - January 25, 2012 08:02 PM (GMT)
    Sam and Evangeline
Yeah Sam does not like the science brigade, in fact he dislikes them more than regular people and considering he hates everyone, that’s saying a lot. For the most part he avoids the researchers because they piss him off, but if he knew how much he annoyed Evie, he would go out of his way it irritate her because he’s an asshole xD He’d be especially prickish if she decided to argue back because to him, getting people to stoop to his level of pettiness is classed as a win. So, yeah, lots of snarky arguments in the future.

Alonzo Bennett - November 13, 2012 08:08 AM (GMT)
So, these two have some behavioral similarities.

Which means they won't get along.

Alonzo is one of the scientists, an asshole in his own right, bi-polar, and generally not a fan of most people. He wouldn't care the slightest about what Sam thought of him really. He's just another annoying person populating the world.

However, Alonzo also wouldn't be offended by Sam's attitude in the slightest.

I feel like having these two anywhere near each other would end in all onlookers hoping they kill each other off.

They appear to have several things in common, the most prominent being levels of douchebaggery. Anyway. Like I said before, they should totally just go around being assholes to people together. JOIN FORCES AND RULE THE...AREA! And maybe through his manipulative ways, Flynn can somehow convince Sam to be on his side when things get...interesting?

SAM & ALONZO</div>
<div style="width: 350px; text-align: justify">
Ok, Sam would really not like Alonzo, just everything about him would annoy him and he definitely wouldn’t be quiet about it. But with Alonzo being the sort to give as good as he gets, I imagine they’d eventually come to some sort of stalemate and just ignore each other or attempt to murder each other. <br>
<div style="width: 350px; text-align: center">
SAM & FLYNN</div>
<div style="width: 350px; text-align: justify">
I could definitely see Sam being able to tolerate Flynn, though probably only in small doses. It’s kind of difficult because he thinks the people running Area 9 are idiots but in some ways he’s still loyal because he’d rather things didn’t turn into a blood bath. Also, I see you plotted with Fish for Bailey and Flynn – while Sam would never admit it, he’s kind of fond of Bailey and a little protective, in his own assholeish way. So, I don’t know, that might sway his opinion on Flynn a little. But out of all the scientist lot, I think Sam would prefer to get stuck with Flynn, for the time being at least – also they kind of have the whole kid thing in common, only Sam’s son is definitely dead and he probably wouldn’t share that information with Flynn any time soon.

FLYNN ADLER - December 5, 2012 02:18 AM (GMT)
[dohtml] <center><div style="width: 300px; text-align: justify; line-height: 1.1em;">
That works for me. Flynn can only tolerate people in general in small doses anyway. And he absolutely thinks the people running things are idiots *cough* Donovan *cough*. Don't worry about the kid thing. Flynn wouldn't be keen on talking about that either.
