I call it both soda and pop. I try to say "soda" more often because of my need to be technically correct on things like that, but my Coloradan gets in and I say "pop" now and then...

I also say both "drinking fountain" (which is the most correct) and "water fountain" (which is less correct, because a water fountain is decorative and not meant to be drank from).

To be fair, a fountain doesn't have to be decorative. That is, if it founts, then it is a fountain. That's about it. It's just more often used for decoration.

That does, but here in CA I call it soda in public and pop in private. Can't wait to move back to MN.

Pop as is customary in Iowa. In London, though, we called them Fizzy Drinks.

Do you drink it out of polystyrene cups? Or Styrofoam?

Can I have a coke?

I would not mind if in answer to that I received a Sprite, a Doctor Pepper, or Mountain Dew. This is not at a restaurant though, you've got to be specific at those places.

Coke = Hillbilly? Not all southerners are hillbillies.

I just call them sugary bubbly drinks. Came from a game in which a Russian guy went "The capitalists destroyed our economy and brought in endless pairs of blue jeans and bottles of sugary bubbly drinks."
