The nation maps work thanks to the awesome mapping features provided by Google Maps. During development, finding a way to incorporate some sort of mapping system into the game was very important to me. I've played a lot of MMOGs (Massively Multiplayer Online Games) which all have wonderful features and premises, but I've always felt like they all lack that extra touch. I feel that the maps bring a unique form of realism to the game that I think you'll enjoy. The idea behind the map of your nation is simple. When you create your nation you select your location (coordinates) on the map (It's permanent so choose carefully). Although you select your nation position in the beginning of the game, your nation will not show up on the Top 40 Nations Map until your nation climbs up the strength ladder to becomes one of the top 40 nations. (This limit will increase as the game gets bigger.) Your goal in the game is to grow your nation in size and strength until it becomes one of the top 40 nations so that you can put your nation on the map. If two nations of different colored teams overlapp on the Top 40 Nations Map this is considered transgression and grounds for war. If the two nations are of the same team color then this would be generally considered as nations that are cooperating and sharing land resources.

(Posted Image)

As your nation grows over time though land purchases, gains via conquest, and natural growth the ring around your capital city will expand. This ring represents your land holdings in actual miles on the map. The color of the inner ring is your selected background color for your nation and the outer ring represents the team that you are currently a member of.

(Posted Image)

There are two methods to view your nation on the map after you have created your nation 1) by clicking "View My Nation" under your Nation Menu and 2) by clicking "Top 40 Nations Map" under your World Menu. As a side note the first option mentioned above loads much faster than the map of all nations across the world.

The Reds get red rings, but the Browns and Oranges are stuck with blue rings. What gives?

And the top 40 link doesn't work.

the land shows both purchases and natural growth. the number ingame only shows purchased land. one of you must have grown larger than the other or vice versa.

I have a problem. I am trying to creat my nation, but when I click on the map, it gives me coordinates wayyyyyy south of there. I am trying for 61N, and -149, but it goes 10 20, even 40 degrees south of there. What gives?

edit: I just clicked up around the Anchorage, AK, area--and it takes me to Antarctica. <M>

Have you tried zooming in closer? Otherwise, you could be placed anywhere "close". There is one nation floating in space actually... he's not on the globe at all. ROFLMAO

How close do you have to zoom in? Also, I get a big blank spot and the right side and lower corner of the main map. Any reason why?

BTW--thanks for the help!! <valentine>

When I set up my nation I zoomed in fairly close, to the point that the forest trail names around my 5 acre property were legible.

You may have to also move north, south, east or west each time you zoom in order to keep your chosen location centered.

OK--now the map isn't even showing up. I have been trying to get my nation set up, but only part of the map was showing, now it is all blank. Is there a problem with the server right now?

BTW--I am using my wife's Mac, and I have tried this on both Netscape and IE.

In what part of the world are you trying to set your nation? Is it a remote area?

FWIW, map location doesn't have an impact on the game. It's just for show anyways.

I am trying to set up in Alaska--near the Anchorage area.

So, why doesn't the location matter? What if you are close to someone who want to rape and pillage you? <huuuu>

It's simply a feature Admin has incorporated for show. I guess it gives a sense of grounding. I know I enjoy having my nation situated on my five acre property.

At the most if a nation of similar strength is in close proximity to your nation, there will be a warning in red wording to the affect of Land Encroachment on your ranking page showing how close they are to your nation. Of course this is subject to change as your nation grows in strength or loses strength as well as their nation strength. One day they're there... the next day they're not.

I have a question. For some reason when I click on "View my Nation Map" I will see my nation and a few other guys around me. But I can come back the next day click View my Nation Map, and the same people will be gone. But I know there accounts are still there. Somtimes there will be someone near me but I Cant see them on the map.

What gives?

There are two conditions on those you can see:-
- They must be within a certain distance of your capital
- They must be in your attack range

As the latter changes so do those that you can see in your map

Well I know they are within range. One place that was very close to me I can no longer see. But now there are other places popping up...its changing so much and its all within range.

How will I know if someone is building on my land if I cant see them?

Location has no effect on the game. Case study:-
- I used to be totally engulfed by a nation. It did not affect me.
- I now engulf them. There is still no effect
