The global radiation level would work as follows: Each nuclear weapon detonated raises the global radiation level by 0.1 or 0.01 . The radiation from a single bomb wears off after approx. one week-one month (depending on weather single nukes raise the level by 0.1 or 0.01)

Now... for every 1.0 level of radiation, the world suffers a slight environmental decrease. Lets say.... 1/2 a star (remember: the levels WILL wear off)? This would discourage the use of nuclear weapons en mass as we've seen in the last day or so.... everyone would suffer, and everyone would be pissed at the folks who launched. Just like in RL, normally neutral nations will be upset at a nuclear attack.

Edit the levels/timeframes as you see fit, i'm sure theres a better setup that i've proposed, but the general idea is a good one, I think...

A little thing on the world news section on global radiation would be fun just for kicks, but I don't want to lose my precious five stars. <sadno>

I just think nuking folks should be a bit more discouraged than it already is...

Imagine the whole of CN pissed at you... people would wnat to avoid that.

Plus, it would only be for a short time, losing your stars....

I've thought for a while that the outrage at the use of nuclear weapons was a bit odd, since it's essentially just a strong weapon here and holds none of the effects that causes its stigmatization in the real world (radiation, civilian casualties, etc). Something like this could go a way to making nuclear concern more realistic.

I definately agree with Vlad here. This way, there would be more repercussions to using nukes and is a nice way to 'emulate' the real outrage that using nuclear weapons would cause.

sounds useful but...its kinda hard to support something that will lower their country in something :\ youd think the war between WSA and The Legion wouldve brought on a nuclear winter

Agreed.

However, I'm concerned about griefers who don't care about whether their nation is destroyed or not and will simply band with others to chuck nukes just to lower everyone's environment.

Its called 'terrorism' and its a part of real life, too...

It'll make keeping nukes out of the hands of terrorists that much more important...

I agree. And if someone increases Global Radiation level, will kick his stupid, un-ecological b*t!

You should make this a petition.

Perhaps there could also be a positive aspect too; not just the possibility of losing environment. Perhaps if the level is under a certain amount, there would be a +1 happiness bonus for everyone or something along those lines.

I agree with this proposal 100%! On top of 'Global Radiation', what about these massive dust clouds nukes kick up? No sunlight=bad for environment too!

As a sidenote, do you know what kind of power we would be giving rogues?! They could wipe out everyone in the world's environment! Just another evil incentive, but it is realistic.

Nukes in CN are weak, it should take around 45 to 50 nukes in one week to hurt environment. In addition, the amount of radiation level required to lower half a point of environment should be proportionate to the amount of land in the game (which means that as the game grows, more nuclear launches can be handled). This would also allow people to counter nuke griefers with buying a lot of land to save everyone's environment.

I like this idea a lot, especially Piu's additions, in addition to being a good idea, it would also shift the balance in the game towards making Border Walls a much more useful improvement...perhaps if this goes through the name of border walls should be changed to something else, like Scrubbers or something like that.
