Before we get some plots going, because I definitely want them, I just want to list one major rule about Dexter:
Your character does NOT know that Dexter is a killer. He is not just “that good” of a cop/detective/fellow criminal and they do not have a gut instinct leading them to put the pieces together about him(the only character for this type of thing would possibly be Grissom). You just don’t know he’s a killer unless your character is about to be killed and strapped to his table.
You have to remember that Dexter is extremely good at hiding in plain sight. He has perfected the art of masking the fact that he is extraordinarily different. He works for the police department!
Dexter can have acquaintances, but don't expect them to go beyond that. People can believe they are good friends with them if they want to (the only people i see for this are co-workers or people that he see's day to day). There can even be a romance or two, but those have to be discussed before happening. A romance to him would be used as just a cover for people catching onto the fact that he's 'different'.
Bad guys! I need lots of bad guys for Dexter to be hunting.
