Eon? What does this one do? Is it BOINC?

:ph43r:

vaio - January 14, 2006 02:32 PM (GMT)
Info

It doesn't run under boinc.........is a small standalone client.
The work units are very small and it doesn't queue units....it sends one at a time so it needs to be online.

For whatever reason the server often takes it's time sending new work, so ideally it should be run alongside another project (in my case, folding) to make sure something gets to use those spare cycles :)

vaio - January 14, 2006 02:57 PM (GMT)
Server doesn't seem to be feeding me much work today

viao,
How CPU intensive is Eon, and does a rig have to be connected full time to run it.
The project looks interesting, but the tech specs looked a little weak, on what it needs to run.

Thanks for all your help,

Rick

vaio - January 16, 2006 10:16 PM (GMT)
Eon is pretty transparent to run....however the units are tiny and it needs to connect for each result so it's an "online" kinda project.

The good thing is that it behaves re cpu usage....as in it runs 50% usage when in conjunction with another project.

Right now I have Eon and Einstein running 50% each.........and Dimes for good measure.

The Eon server is a bit flaky so it is ideal to run as a second project......when server fails to send work the other running project gets full cpu.

I kinda like it..........and I like the ongoing almost instant stats updates.........adds to the fun :)

rwillis - January 16, 2006 10:25 PM (GMT)
Thanks Captain..... the rig I looking at testing it on, won't be connected all of the time, it's a 'donated' rig from one of my neighbors who bought a new one for Christmas. It's a older Celeron 665 so I'm not sure what it'll run, I hate having it sit here doing nothing whilst I figure that out.

Rick

vaio - January 16, 2006 10:28 PM (GMT)
Well, my 800 Duron is Folding AND running Eon right now.
Could always run that Celery on the boinc projects???

My current Einstein units show a 10+ day deadline and the units are relatively small anyway........plus it has pretty graphics

vaio - January 16, 2006 10:33 PM (GMT)
Charles is almost in the top 300 now and guru is starting to climb :)

rwillis - January 16, 2006 10:42 PM (GMT)
> off to look at Einstien and Bionc... < Problem is router is full, so I'm looking for something that I can run, and update like UD mon. I also have another Celery 768, with a bad HDD, that was donated to me. I've replaced the HDD, and rebuilt as and XP machine, all I need now is a NIC card and it's in busniess also.
Any ideas for the above...

Rick

Edit.... I'm getting a new router in the next week or so, but I want to start crunching something NOW....
