SETTING
”These are dangerous times. To say what you feel is to dig your own grave….”

“The island of Ilmatar is no longer the haven for the supernatural world. Enchantments and magic were not enough to keep Cosmos or the town of Avalar safe. We should have seen them coming. When our children were killed in other lands, we should have known. This revolution…it cannot be contained, it’s too late now. A spark has caught in the hearts of students and an inferno will bring about chaos and darkness, however, it would be wise to know that fire will always shine the brightest in complete and utter darkness.”

Okay. So I've been wondering, is there a real difference between the two? All I've seen in the way people play them is in gender, but is that just semantics? Because there are quite a few ways to refer to magic-users. Like, you could call a male witch a warlock. So, yeah....

well if you were comparing them to humans I'd say if they have more than one power their either a witch or a wizard, and warlocks are evil in this case. yes the gender issue tells you what they are female witch, male wizard they're the same just different genders.

Ok, thanks. That had been bothering me for a few days. I just never got around to asking.

I know I'm late to the party, but I saw this and really wanted to throw in my two cents. Sorry in advance if it sounds too nit-picky. D:

In my experience (that is, mostly D&D and other games that split characters into well-defined classes) wizards are the type who have to study the arcane arts to access its power. To them it's a lot like chemestry or physics -- an exact science. Sorcerers are those, who, for one reason or another, have an innate access to raw and sometimes chaotic arcane energies. Warlocks gain their power through deals made with powerful (though not necessarily evil) beings.

In D&D specifically, because there's such a distinction between wizards, sorcerers, and warlocks, you can actually offend some wizards by calling them a sorcerer or warlock. In short, calling a wizard a sorcerer is like saying they got their PhD because they got lucky, and calling them a warlock is like saying they got their PhD because they "got on the dean's good side." *winkwink nudgenudge*

Terms like witch and sorceress are just female variants. Though I've heard witch used as a more generic "female magic-user" as often as I've heard it used for "female wizard" or "female warlock." There's also mage used as a generic for magic user.

Then there's other titles that can apply to various magic users who specialize in specific "schools" of magic. Obvious ones include necromancer, enchanter/enchantress, transmuter (alternatively alchemist), and illusionist. Less obvious ones are abjurers (specialize in protection spells), evokers (magic blasty fire/ice/whatever go boom), and diviners/oracles (kind of obvious, kind of not; they ask spirits for advice, see the future, that kind of stuff). There's probably some others I can't think of off the top of my head. And none of those are really tied to any type of magic user specifically. It's just as possible to have an evoker be a wizard as much as a sorcerer, for instance.

Yay, long post of info.... -___- zzzZ

In this RPG adult witches and wizards are sorceresses and sorcerers, while students are witches and wizards. Upon graduation from Cosmos a power is bestowed on the graduating student, thus why adults have four powers instead of just three. Witches and Wizards are just humans with more than one power, they are considered supernaturals to other humans because of the magic running threw them fully. While organization members are humans that developed one specific power, thus classifying them as non-supernaturals.

So, according to that, would Claus be classified as a Sorcerer? If so, should I change him?

Thanks, though there was no real need to unlock it for me. I could've done it myself. XD
