A large portion of the city was dedicated to residential buildings. Apartment complexes, single-family homes and duplexes were most common.

The mall was the most popular destination for any kind of shopping. It was looted early on, but there's probably still some useful stuff here.

Madison Park
The park was a popular destination for families. Its gardens and sports fields made it an open-air, bustling and beautiful location.

Brookvale University
A small university of about 3,000 students, Brookvale University was mostly empty when the outbreak struck because of winter break. It had great programs in art, architecture and foreign languages.

Police Department
A two-story building toward the center of the city, the police department is home to some of the only firearms in the city. It also holds the island's jailhouse.

Fire Department
Centrally located, the fire department doubled as a paramedic depot. It's got weaponry like fire axes, as well as medical equipment.

The business part of Brookvale Island was largely restaurants, bars and souvenir shops. In less than a couple days, most of these places had been looted.

Annandale Marina
According to a city ordinance, all boats on the island had to be docked at the marina. The day of the outbreak, the government shut it down by sinking all the boats.

The nicest hotel in Brookvale. It's a four-star hotel and is one of the tallest buildings on the island.

The worst, shadiest motel on the island. Crossroads Motel is known for its cockroaches, musty sheets and terrible service.

Kennedy Memorial Library
The library was a surprisingly large building with marble columns and high ceilings. Its vast collection of books rivaled that of many mainland libraries.

Main Street Drive-In Theater
The drive-in was having some trouble staying afloat in recent years. As a result, it started staying open year-round in order to attract as many people as possible.

Bert Hoffman Campground
Founded by notable survivalist Bert Hoffman, the campground was known as a cheaper alternative to staying in hotels. It was popular year-round.

Hiking Trails
The island wasn't completely populated. Part of the island was kept untouched -- making hiking beautiful, popular hiking trails.

Harrison Junior-Senior High
Because of the lack of need for two separate buildings, Brookvale Island's junior and senior high schools occupied the same place, just on different floors. Students from sixth grade through high school attended.

Watson was a small school for kindergarteners through fifth-graders. It's now eerily quiet.

The beaches of Brookvale Island were a popular destination during the summer -- especially considering the vacation homes that lined the coasts. During the winter, they were left untouched.

Home to the mayor's office, City Hall was once most governmentally important place on the island. Now there's no government at all.

Since the infected aren't the living dead, the cemetery may indeed be one of the safest places on the island.

All-Inclusive Worship Center
Brookvale Island's "worship center" was a cross-religious place of prayer and spirituality. Instead of spreading inequality, the worship center promoted understanding of all religions. Now it's completely empty.

The Mainland
