So far we've been off to a pretty slow start of the roleplaying. It's understandable as everyone except party leaders are pretty much confined to a passive role in the thread I started. The sollution is simple, we need to get more threads started. Thus, I've created this forum and this thread.

If you've gotten a specific idea on what to do, feel free to start your own thread in this forum to search for people to do it with. This thread is for general discussions regarding activities for your characters.

Keep in mind, you are allowed to be in multiple threads at once (real-time that is, you can't be in threads happening at the same time in character) so those of you who're active in the Pre-election thread can also engage your characters in other threads, taking place either before or after the meeting.

I'll take care of all such plots (I've already got quite a few of them planned out) and they will happen now and then. This thread is more aimed at discussing what your characters will do (meaning stuff they can initiate themselves). Your idea isn't bad though, I'll keep it in mind. smile.gif

On an unrelated note, I hope everyone keeps in mind to check out the Rules thread now and then as I occasionally updates it. The last update was regarding ways to earn money.

Hmmm, I will add ideas eventually.

Bit too tired right now, and I have no idea why I am still awake.

Perhaps some debates would be in order, probably between members running for the Senate in each city. Just so that each party can really make their party lines clear.

Can we use a stamina/energy point system for campaigning? Basically limits on the actions per day of individuals? Can we also establish the technology level of Confundia i.e. do we have an abortion issue or do we not have the medical knowledge to perform the procedure? Do we have celebrity culture and mainstream television? Are candidates travelling by jet or other methods?

I'd suggest a system like:

20 points a day

Activities:

5 points Fundraiser
5 points Barnstorming
5 points Policy Speech
1 point -> Talk to Potential Endorser
2 points-> Meet Potential Endorser

Travel costs can be decided by methods and distance. I think if we don't have a system limiting actions we'll have people trying to self-regulate between campaigning an unrealistic amount and not campaigning enough. Not having rules tends to lead to problems with people feeling others were abusing the lack of system.

I know its a lot of work but it should probably be done to have a good campaign. I'm quite willing to help if given some guidelines on what is wanted.

And how, pray tell, would you define a day? Not everyone can get online daily, and it is unlikely that we'll have anything even closely resembling a synchronised game clock to work with.

My personal view was to use real time during campaigns (1 day real life = 1 day in game). We can use backwards looking options so you can carry forward points from up to 2 days ago perhaps. An informal system might work, but from experience I find people get frustrated with those who campaign the most in such systems, while those who campaign the most feel they are just doing what their character would do.

If we look at the primaries in the US the candidates are often running 3 events/day on most days over the past year. I think candidates are highly unlikely to achieve that on here.

I think it all gets confusing if you try to put definite timescales on things. If you look at it that way, then the pre-elections speeches have been going on for, what 2 weeks now? and in game its only been a few hours.

I suppose. It just gets complicated if everyone is at a different point in time in the game with regards to campaigning.

In my experience of RP online having a definate time-scale is an extremely bad idea. If there was one, then I for one would be missing, in-game, for days at a time when really my character is at a dinner party....

If there was a set time scale, my character would only ever appear on a weekend...
