Here here. And David, for the record, the two examples you gave were ruled by deluded fools. Both ideas could have worked fine if the leaders had had their heads screwed on.

One failed because of a failed and overambitious attempt at world domination, while the other failed because of an unfortunate arms-race...
There are, however, plenty of non-mainstream parties around. In britain, for example, there's the BNP and other 'extremist' parties like that, all the way to the Monster Raving Loony Party (google their 'manicfesto' - seriously; you will laugh). Not so sure about America (that seems to be far more of a two-party system, with no room for others). I think the main problem here is a difference in viewpoints. Most of the 'original' members (that is, the five or six of us that founded Confundia) are playing from a slightly-less-than-serious viewpoint - it's a chance to have a bit of a laugh and take some slightly-impractical ideas up into the limelight, as well as opening up a proper political debate/vote/sim thing - while David (to use you as an example, sorry) seems to be coming from a far more serious, 'real life' point of view, looking at Confundia as a more true-to-life political RPG. A sim rather than a role playing game, which is where things like this come from. |
