Basic Race Information, A quick guide.

You will find all basic information on the races in Sancta Terra and Eternus Obscurum here.

This is just a basic outline. Detailed information for each of the races can be found in the 'creature information' board.

Each race you see will have a listed 'Coalescence' which is their connection to the realm that is not their home as well as a race that they are considered prevalent over and a race that may prevail over them.

Sancta Terra Races

Humans

The most dominant race populating the realm of Sancta Terra and also the most versatile. They are naturally easily swayed by the magics of the Eternus Obscurum and thus, easily preyed on by the physically or psychonetically powerful races. Culturally, they mostly rely on their technologies and science to create shelter and defend themselves from predators.

Coalescence
Their connection to the Obscurum varies from person to person. Some rely on simple, subtle magics (sometimes unbeknownst to them that they're using magic) such as worship or upkeep of other races or even drawing on power of creatures such as muses. Others, with stronger connections to the other realm may use the elements of Sancta Terra for their own bidding. These individuals are called The Magi.


Prevalences
Strength: The Fae. (Human structures disrupt the natural harmonies which are the essence of life of the Fae. As a result, Fae are physically and metaphysically weakened in human cities - especially when around a lot of iron- and are not very gifted with use of human inventions.)

Weakness: The Venerable. (Humans are naturally and subconsciously drawn to the Venerable. They feel the need to be around them and be close to them due to the Venerable's own natural magnetism. No human can resist the pull of the Venerable but may however channel it via adoration or in some rare cases severe spite. The more a human is in tune with magic, the stronger their pull towards the Venerable is.)

The Twice Spirited

The spirited are the bridge race between the humans and the animals. They are essentially one body that hosts two souls - one of a human, one of an animal. Nobody is entirely sure how they came to be on Sancta Terra, all that is known is that they've been around for longer than is recorded. They come in as many types as there are animals on the planet. Their condition is entirely hereditary unless otherwise stated.

Coalescence
The two souls within one body is believed to be a magical phenomenon. The support for this is in the fact that, when the connection between the realms is at it's weakest, the human form prevails in all aspects. As the seasons change and the connection between the Terra and the Obscurum grows stronger (IE, during the full moon and the days closest to it), the animal form takes prevalence in both the mental and physical form of the being. During the night of the full moon, the Spirited all take their full animal form.

Prevalences
Strength: Demonkind. (The two souls within one body give the Spirited a strong connection to nature and a powerful metaphysical aura which is virtually incorruptible by demonic means.)

Weakness: The Fae. (Because both races are so in tune with nature, and the Fae thrive and use natural forces as their power, they may call on and in some cases assume control over a Spirited creature of their element.)

Animals

Although not the most dominant race on Sancta Terra, the animal kingdom makes up the vast majority of it's population. They're very similar to humans in the way they breed and what they eat. Only difference is, they generally aren't as smart as your average human, they come in a bigger variety of shapes and sizes and they walk around naked.

Coalescence
Their connection to the Obscurum is entirely dependent on the other races.

Strength: none

Weakness: none

This is not a primary race on this board, however, if you really want to play one, just go ahead and use the human form and delete fields as necessary.

Eternus Obscurum Races

Fae

The Fae are a mystical race that are the physical manifestation of natural harmonies and the purest life magics. Their very existence depends on the flow of energies around them as they are the living, physically sentient manifestation of the said energies. They come in a number of different shapes and sizes, ranging from only a couple of inches in height to the size of several humans stacked on top of one another. Their appearance is humanoid in shape.

Coalescence
Although all the Fae mounds are found in the Obscurum, the elements and energies that the Fae are illustrated from are all on Sancta Terra. They can be physical locations (such as forests, bodies of water, earth etc); Emotions and feelings (fear, love, joy, lust etc) or organic aspects (blood, flesh etc). The power that the Fae draws on is from Obscurum but prevails and resides in Sancta Terra.

Prevalences
Strength: The Spirited (The physical and metaphysical matter of which the Spirited are created from are the bare elements which the Fae are so in tune with. As a result, certain Fae may have power over The Spirited)

Weakness: Humans. (The Fae are weakened when in the presence of manmade structures and products as well as hard iron - all of which Humans wield effortlessly).

Demons

A race as abundant and diverse as the animal kind and the Fae, Demons vary greatly when it comes to their appearance and sizes, types of hides and number of appendages. They are the predators of the Obscurum and Sancta Terra, not because of malicious intent, but by nature (Although some of them can be quite cunning and malicious). Culturally, they can be quite intense and brutal, using violence and pure physical and metaphysical power as their main means to survive and thrive. They are generally the bane of all other races as they thrive on corruption.

Coalescence
Their spiritual and physical manifestation is entirely of the Obscurum. However, their main means of sustenance is on Sancta Terra. Some feed on emotions and energies from the Terran races while others feed on their flesh and blood. Although most of the sustenance can be found in the Eternus Obscurum, food is much more abundant and obtainable in Sancta Terra. Some Demons cannot survive feeding off the Obscurum races

Prevalences
Strength: Venerable. (That which is corrupted by the Demonkind cannot be used to sustain the Venerable. The 'purity' of the Venerable and the corruption of the Demonkind are directly opposing elements; much like fire and water with Demonkind being the water)

Weakness: The Fae. (Because both races are so in tune with nature, and the Fae thrive and use natural forces as their power, they may call on and in some cases assume control over a Spirited creature of their element.)

The Venerable

The Venerable believe themselves to the most superior of all races. Their appearance is not well documented among others due to the fact that the highest ranking and most powerful of them do not make many public appearances. It is believed however that the most organic and humanoid looking ones are the lowest ranking of the Venerable and do the bidding of the high ranking officials and individuals. By nature they all are very proud and have a very totalitarian view of government and the way the lesser races should live – theirs. For those that do not follow their ways, punishment is dealt. They generally believe all others are beneath them and do not socialize, breed or bring themselves down to their level in any way.

Coalescence
The Venerable all reside in their ‘realm of light’ in the Eternus Obscurum but their connection to Sancta Terra is one of both need and convenience. They thrive and gain power when they are given absolute power over the lesser races (IE, when they are worshiped and/or followed), so they seek to control the Human race and all similar races to sustain their own. Sancta Terra is also their version of a mortal afterlife. If a lesser Venerable falls from their superior’s grace, falls dishonorably in battle or is stripped of their power in any way, their punishment is dealt on earth. They may be condemned to a mortal life (or a succession of mortal lives) among the lesser races.

Note: A fallen Venerable, if they are not condemned to live on the mortal realm, may be brought back into ascension to the higher realm by being burned alive. This is also an effective exorcism method.

Prevalences
Strength: Humans. (Humans are simple creatures that are easily swayed and, in most cases, feel compelled to believe in or worship a higher power. They believe that this ‘higher power’ guides them and even has a hand in deciding major events such as who lives and who dies. The Venerable feel that this worship and believe belongs solely to them, who’s strength and authority are absolute.)

Weakness: Demonkind. (The corruption and manipulation of demons easily taints most races within Sancta Terra. This influence prevents any race from sustaining the power of the Venerable through worship as their purity is consumed or destroyed.)
