Title: A rare oddity {open}

Oh the woes of being the new girl.
Angel sat in the farthest and emptiest corner of her cabin table. it wasn't all that hard, she hadn't made many friends. Not to mention she was still a bit shell shocked from all the events that led her to this moment in time, learning she was a demigod and all. And on top of THAT she was never considered what most people called 'a social butterfly' in the first place, she much preferred to stay in her her garden or go surfing, thank you very much.
But the other demigods around camp hadn't been to helpful or willing to reach out to her in the days that she had been here, it seemed. Mostly they tended to avoid her, and seeing no trouble with it, she avoided them too. She was perfectly happy to wander the camp by herself... even if it was a rather lonely way to exist at camp. But really! This was one daughter of Demeter (that still sounded odd to say or even think about at this point) that didn't mind the solitary life. Well, if she kept stating it it would eventually be true. Well, Angel hoped that.
But mealtimes were no different, and tonight's dinner was no exception either. Angel contented herself by folding her legs up on the bench and debating what she could get to drink. The dark haired girl had only learned that she could drink anything her heart could possibly desire just by stating it to her cup. It left her with an immense amount of choices that was a bit overwhelming. So every time she sat down at her cabin table she would fold her legs Indian style on the bench and think hard about what she wanted to drink at that moment.
The girl didn't realize just how odd she probably looked, her hazel eyes trained on her glass, not noticing the world around her. Good thing there wasn't a crazy amount of people around to comment on her strangeness. Well, not any that she was currently aware of...

Monny had been avoiding going to the canteen since day one. Well, he had only been at the camp for about three days but still he had not ventured into the Mess Hall and that for the Welsh boy was a record. Partially it was due to the fact that he couldn't really wear his hat inside the Mess Hall and a lot because he couldn't nessarily eat the food they had to offer. He felt bad about being ashamed of his tufts of hair though, after being so proud of it everywhere else he had been somehow coming here all that confidence had gone and Monny though it was his job to get it back again. Plus he had run out of the Vegan food his mum had given to him and there was only so long the boy could live off protein shakes.
So there he was entering the Mess Hall, no cap or hood or anything. Just his tufts of hair, himself and his weird dietry needs. In all fairness Monny had never wanted to bre a Vegan but because his mum did all the cooking he didn't really have much of a choice. And with her being so far away now, it didn't feel right for him to cheat out on it. Wandering around and pretending he knew where was going (which was all an act because he had absolutely no idea) he finally found the queue for food and after waiting what seemed like hours and only managed to find himself with a bowl of chips (fries he though he better call them from now on, that was the American name for them right?). Now was only the matter of sitting. As optimistic as Monny was he doubted anyone would want to sit next to a weirdo like him.
Then he saw her. The small girl sitting by herself, staring at her glass? Monny didn't really register this as weird though as he was used to his mother doing all her weird new Age things around the house. She looked friendly enough and the roar of Monny's hungry stomach was enough to get him to walk over in her direction. "Hallo, do you mind if I sit there?" he asked his accent sticking out like a sore thumb much like his hair. He gave her smile though to show he wasn't a stalker or anything and waited to hear her reply.

The fact that Cody was starving was the only reason he decided to go down to the mess hall. It was far too crowded and loud. Such nuisances caused him to eat in the library back in the normal world. He got his food and sat at the table assigned to children of Demeter. That was another thing, why did he get stuck with such a stupid goddess. The goddess of springtime, really? He might as well get the god of puppies or something equally useless. However, it was good that he had a lame goddess for a mother, since it seemed she had less children. He would throw himself off the lava rock wall if he had been a child of Aphrodite.
Cody had been at the camp for five days and he still did not know a single name, but he could generally tell what cabins each kid was from. He looked over at the girl sitting awkwardly at his table. Apparently, she was his sister, but he had not bothered to learn her name. He had a feeling it started an A. Abbey, Agnus, Adam? He didn't really care. But the boy...Cody had never seen him before in the cabin, which meant he was from another cabin. Cody sucked his teeth in annoyance. He already had to deal with his "sister, he didn't want to deal with some overly friendly demigod that liked to sit with people just so they'd have company.
"If I recall, we are supposed to sit at our own tables," he said without looking away from his food. He took a sip of his water, and hoped the boy would get the hint and leave.

Angel sat and contemplated her cup. It was still an odd thing to get used to, the fact that she could have whatever she wanted to drink right there at the tips of her fingers. Normally, she didn't have much variety when it came to beverages at mealtimes, her dad only kept water, various teas and iced teas, and a few weird health drinks around the house. It... wasn't the best lot to chose from. But now she had free reign over what she could drink, (and eat, everything here was freaking delicious) so she would think long and hard about it. Oh... she so knew. Angel decided on Coca Cola, the original stuff. It was her favorite soda, and rare that she ever got to drink it. But just as she was about to speak to her glass (or was it a goblet?), she was startled by a voice.
The dark haired demigod turned her hazel to the accented voice, The boy's appearance was... a bit startling, but Angel did her best to mask any sort of shock. Really, it was only his hair. "Oh, um... I don't mind but-" Angel's reasoning was cut off by a yet another voice, this one coming from her own table.
"If I recall, we are supposed to sit at our own tables."
Angel's eyebrows furrowed at her brother. It was... well she couldn't remember, though she recalled he was fairly new to camp as well. Turning back to the other boy, she smiled at him. "Well, I was about to say that but... a little differently. Sorry, but I do think that we have to sit at our own cabin tables." she told him. Angel hated to make him stand, but she also didn't want to get her cabin in trouble or something. Or make her brother (that term felt so odd, she thought he had been an only child her whole life) angry, he seemed the sort of person that didn't want to be disturbed. However, at the same time she didn't want to be rude to the other boy.
"Y-you could still stay and talk if you wanted though." she said to him quietly, staring at her plate shyly rather than making eye contact. Watch this bit blow up in her face...
Diamond Rhyfedd - June 19, 2011 05:03 PM (GMT)
If there was one thing Monny hated, it was people who though they were better than everyone else. Plus their auras were nasty with a capital N. So when some boy that he wasn't talking to decided to but in Monny couldn't help but get miffed off. Still he had come to keep the girl company and as far as he could tell she seemed perfectly lovely. Especially when she had said they could talk. Plus who was Monny to know that they had to sit in their cabin tables. And what kinda of rule was that anyway? Where they that worried that different demi-gods might mix? Monny sighed and decided that he would eat his dinner and then return just so he could show that rude boy up. Plus no one messed with a Rhyfedd, no one. Not even a demi-god.
"Okay, give my five minutes," he told the girl giving her a warm smile. Walking over to where he believed was the Apollo cabin table he wolfed his small meal down in minutes flat. He wasn't even that hungry anymore to be honest but he knew that he would pay for the mistake of not eating later. Washing it all down with a glass of water he cleaned away his things and then returned to the girl's table. A smile was planted on his face. "So I'm Monny, son of Apollo apparently, Welsh and you are?" he stuck out his hand for her to shake. You could tell what kind of person someone was by their handshake. Also by their Aura as well. He was good at seeing that sort of thing, what with is Mother being into it and all. This girls was so glowing it was almost sore to look at. Almost. "Do you where Crystals or anything, you have the most mesmerizing glow to your Aura... I mean eyes." He caught himself hopefully just in time. Monny didn't want anyone to know the weirdo side to him. Well not just yet anyway.

The boy left momentarily with the promise he would come back. Cody sighed and looked at the dark haired girl. She seemed like one of those overly friendly types that would apologize if you punched them in the nose, and hurt your hand doing it. He glanced back at the boy who was now sitting at the Apollo table eating. More like shoveling it down like a pig.
"We have plenty of time to converse with the other campers everywhere else in this accursed camp. You know it's not us who will get into trouble if Mr. D sees him. It's going to be him. So while you're in the art of being nice, think about what could happen to him. Sitting here is sitting here regardless if he's eating, talking, or french kissing you." He returned to his food, now that he had added his two cents. The boy came back
Cody just shrugged. If the Apollo kid got in trouble, it would be no hair off of his back. He continued to eat. He tried to ignore the two sitting at his table, but it was posing difficult. But they were so annoying. It pictures two gerbils squeaking away at each other.
When the boy came back he started blathering on about her aura, or eyes. "Aura's huh? He said unable to resist butting in again. "Can you guess mine. Actually no, let me tell you. My aura is telling you to shut your big mouth so I can digest my food in peace."
Angelica Harman - June 21, 2011 03:50 AM (GMT)
Angel's eyes followed the boy as he left, his warm smile and promise to be back soon somewhat reassuring. Most of the time, she would have preferred to just be alone, but it was nice to know that she would have someone to talk to that may actually be nice to her, and wouldn't just drop a conversation because she was quiet. Most people did that, but she couldn't necessarily blame them, could she? The girl turned back to her cup, but was once again interrupted by her brother. Angelica listened to the monologue coming out of her cabin mate's mouth, a bit stunned, quite honestly.
"First of all, I'm sure it's alright if he just stands. I couldn't see even Mr. D. getting mad over a silly thing like that. Second of all, why are you so mad about it? It's just talking." she said quietly. Really, her brother needed a bit of an attitude adjustment if you asked her. Well, probably if you asked anyone else too, but that was beside the point at the moment. Her cheeks were stained red, mostly because of that kissing comment, but she tried to hide that behind a curtain of hair. It didn't work so well. Well, worst case scenario she could just ignore him, if she had to.
Oh! What a wonderful and perfectly timed distraction. The boy came over from his spot at the Apollo table and introduced himself neatly. "Welsh? That's pretty awesome. Oh! Uh, most people just call me Angel. Demeter's kid, and um, Californian?" she said. Well, that made her sound a bit like an idiot. The dark haired demigod couldn't help but let a small smile turn up the corner of her lips. But the expression gave way to confusion in a moment as he commented about her... Aura? What was that? Ooooor her eyes.
"Um, crystals? No I don't wear them... and of you don't mind me asking, what's an aura?" Angel ignored the color rising in her cheeks again, attempting to focus on the current conversation and not comments about her eyes. They weren't all that special anyway. But that focus was nearly instantly lost when her new brother, gah his name was on the tip of her tongue, decided to intervene again.
"He's just trying to be nice. Why is that wrong?" she asked her cabin mate. Honestly, she couldn't see any other reason that the son of Apollo would come over and talk to her other than to take pity on her. But back to the boy sitting at her table. Why did he have to be so mean?
Diamond Rhyfedd - June 21, 2011 09:39 PM (GMT)
The girl was called Angel. He like her especially when she blushed, now that was cute in Monny's opinion. "I love California, 'specially LA. That's where I was before I came here. What about you?" Unfortunately though, it seemed as if he would not be getting an answer to that question as it appeared his comment about the auras had not gone unnoticed. He sighed and rolled his eyes at the rude boy. Wasn't that Apollo kids could curse people. Hmmmm... he wondered... No, Monny wasn't that kind of person but one more word from that boy and maybe he would turn out to be one. Best to ignore him he supposed. He brought his attention back to Angel. She was miuch more interesting but still curious about the auras. Darn. Might as well let the freak out of the bag.
"Auras are these bright colourful glowing things that everyone has around them. There are seven different levels which affect each other depending how each one is reacting. I'm not so good at knowing those though. As for the colours though, they show the kind of person someone is. For example your Aura is this amazing blue with this white glow and shows that you are loving and caring and general just nice in general." He smiled, a bit embarrassed that he had shared so much about his weird side but the cat was out of the bag now. His smile faltered though when he was interrupted again. Seriously though, if you can't say anything nice why say it at all. Truthfully though he wanted to same some means things too. He looked over at Angel who was standing up for him. He smiled. "Okay let's take your 'brother' here, his aura is off an, let's say and interesting colour and shows that he is a douche bag." The smile returned again.

Cody only half payed attention to the Apollo boy ramble on about aura's. It all sounded so boring. He yawned and covered his mouth, adding a good stretch for good measure. He couldn't believe his sister was listening to such dribble. Maybe he should go take a nap, listening to the Apollo boy had made him rather sleepy.
Cody got up with plans on leaving just as the Apollo boy called him a name. Not even to his face. Such disrespect. Cody's teeth clenched slightly and his sleepiness faded into the back of his mind. "If you were such a nice person, you would't result to petty insults no matter what I said. And if you recall, I never actually insulted your character. I simply gave friendly suggestions." He stepped closer to the Apollo boy, eyeing him carefully. "Is that...douchbag I see in your aura" Not that he believed in auras. He had a feeling it was just something the odd boy made up to sound more eccentric.
"See, it's not very nice to be called names. Not to mention, you're older, obviously. Do you often, pick on poor defenseless little kids."
He glanced at his sister."And you are going to side with him Sister? I was simply stating the rules, and I'm the bad guy. Whatever, you people bore me now" He turned and started out of the mess hall.

"You're from LA?" Angel asked, failing at masking a bit of her surprise. She could swear his accent was somewhere that was, well, not in California, or even in the U.S. really. But hey, who was she to know. "I live-well lived- in San Deigo." she said. Instead of adding much more, she stared at her empty cup. However, her attention was reclaimed by the interesting boy when he started telling her about Aura's. How fascinating! Levels and colors and feelings and all that. How was it he could see that though? She couldn't see them, and no one she had ever met in California could either. Maybe it was a demigod thing? That probably wasn't it... Angel was dying to ask, but it would be rude and it might bring up an awkward conversation. And those types of conversations were to be avoided at all costs.
The comment about her aura took her by surprise though. She hadn't ever thought about herself like that before, not really. She was loving and caring and nice? Sure, Angelica could be classified that way, but she assumed that was how people were just supposed to act. Maybe it had been a result of growing up with only her dad. Who knew? Plus, her aura sounded... pretty. Angel was not pretty. She was average. Not one special thing about her. Honestly, she would have guessed her aura would be some beige of some sort if she had given any real thought to it. Some color that was plain and boring and didn't stand out. But she had no idea how this worked, maybe bright colors meant the opposite of standing out.
Aaaaaaand there went the bickering again. "That was a bit uncalled for." she told Monny, though she wouldn't doubt it if he hadn't heard her, as she had said it so quietly. Angel was a firm believer in the policy of not saying anything at all if there was nothing nice to say. But her brother was being a bit of a pain, even she had to admit that. Still, that was not a very nice thing to say. However, her brother was already retorting before she could say anything else. Sigh. Yes, a pain was probably the best way to describe him.
Hey! Now her cabinmate was making her the bad guy! Or girl maybe? Who cared. Brother I-" but her brother was already off, none too happy with the conversation. Well what was she supposed to do! Monny was just trying to be nice to her, it wasn't her fault that her brother had wanted to butt in. Still, they were siblings sorta and they couldn't just be mad at each other over silly things. Sighing, she looked at the table and bit her lip. Should she go after him, or would that just irritate him more? probably.
"Erm_" Angel started, not sure how to continue. Come on conversation wasn't supposed to be that hard. "Maybe we can sit next to each other at the Amphitheater? You could tell me more about those aura things, if you wanted." she said. He probably wouldn't, but it was worth a shot. Leaving her dinner untouched as people started to make their way out of the Mess Hall. She stood and offered a shy smile, wondering if Monny would come with as she turned to go.
