Title: Pogeymonz vs other games
Firelord - March 21, 2007 12:52 AM (GMT)
alright with a recent battle between myself and another member i would like others to join
here's the topic
is there really a differance in pokemon and other games
other games:
you level up
you upgrade
you run around attack other characters
pokemon:
you level up
you upgrade your attacks
you run around and attack other pokemon
i don't see the differance.
Windlord - March 21, 2007 01:04 AM (GMT)
there isn't a difference, people just accuse pokemon players as juvenile becasue little kids tend to like pokemon... in truth the same goes for all games. little kids like video games., big kids like video games. People just judge others preferences to make thier own seem better when in truth no one cares, play what you like it play it if you don't like it then don't play it.

I agree with you WL.
Pokemon is a game, just like Gears of War, or Halo. Gears and Halo are more graphic, but if a parent wanted the child to play them, then it'd still be the same as any other game. Just because someone plays a game that majority of little kids play, doesn't mean the person is juvinal or immature, etc.
Anmoriazzah - March 21, 2007 02:48 AM (GMT)
Well, that's essentially all games to some degree, even FPS. I'd say the only thing that could make pokemon more 'juvenile' is that strategy is less intense. I feel there are generally fewer options, especially given the one pokemon out at a time rule. I'd prefer tactics style gameplay.
Beowulf - March 21, 2007 03:06 AM (GMT)
My reference for Pokemon being just as intense as any other game:
Gengar Discussion (Diamond/Pearl)Be warned, some of the people on there curse like sailors.
The Boss - March 22, 2007 07:27 PM (GMT)
Why is it that I find myself wanting to stab myself with a letter opener to end the extreme boredom when playing Pokemon and not other games?
You have a point but the gameplay in pokemon is aweful.
Beowulf - March 22, 2007 08:10 PM (GMT)
That's your opinion. What kind of games do you normally play?
THE DON - March 23, 2007 02:10 AM (GMT)
BW has a point i find d and D really boring but others find it amazing i find pokemon ot be fun and so do many others your is a matter of opinion versus opinion :Fro:

Ahem...
Games are completely different, depending on the catagory.
Pokemon would be considered a Kids game, merely because kids play it the most, but in reality, it is also a roleplaying game. Of sorts...
Gears of War, as well as Halo, are first person shooters that supply you with one person that you cannot make better or more powerful. Not to mention that the games are set in real life scenarios. Pokemon would be considered a fantasy.
Now we come to sports games. Sports games are completely different as well. They represent a way to compete in sports OTHER that actually being outside and playing them (This also causes kids to become FAT). Like Halo and Gears of War, you neither build your team up, or kill people. You don't even attack them. You attack a goal, and they try to stop you. Of course, you CAN power up a team, but not too many people actually do. It's just an option.
So, basically you're wrong. Games can be completely different, depending on the type, maker, setting, and system.
Think I'm wrong? Consider these..
The Sims
Guitar Hero
Second Life
Car Racing games
Flight Simulators
Tony Hawk
Simtunes (Wow, that's old)
Roller Coaster Tycoon
Eh, that's enough.
I'm done.
roxas - March 23, 2007 09:59 PM (GMT)

i know "little kidz" that play gears of war and halo
thefact is all video games are are video games andreguardless of what you think they are literally the same.
oh and no you don't get fat from playing videogames you get fat from sitting around and doing nothing but play them if you have a social life away from the vg's you don't get fat
Citykidforever - March 23, 2007 10:37 PM (GMT)
... They're games that SHOULDNT be played by little kids. Hence the M rating
And yes.. Thats what I meant.
It's kind of obvious that sitting down playing games doesnt make you fat. It just keeps you from doing things that make you skinny.
Citykidforever - March 24, 2007 02:12 AM (GMT)
And btw.. No, they are not litterally the same.
Horror Games..
Board Games
Sports game..
FPS's..
There are lots.
Anmoriazzah - March 24, 2007 02:45 AM (GMT)
If you really wanna get down to it, the most basic concept of any game is a goal you work for within the confines of some rules. Beyond that they diverge dramatically on the the rules, the overall goal, and how you accomplish it.
And ALL games usually incorporate the player getting better, whether it be levelling up and getting better equipment/weapons, or outside of the game, where you can bet I'm better at Halo by the time I reach the final level as compared to being green and possibly dying once or twice against some grunts and an elite.
At the very least, designers assume the players, if they don't develop much in the way of reflexes, will at least be able to work better within the confines of the game.
Citykidforever - March 24, 2007 10:56 AM (GMT)
The you have other games where there ARE no rules..
And then, of course, by that definition, we could consider life to be a game as well.
but we all know that it's not.

correction life is a game and the Bible is the strategy guide...
anyway games through and throuh differ only on how you achieve your goal...
and as far as that goes it really comes down to your opinion and what people tell is child like

By what standards do you consider life to be a game?
It is no more a game, than taking a test at school.
I would hope that you, being a Christian, would understand that our life is much more than a game. It is a trail in which we most overcome evil in our own lives, and attempt to help others do the same. Our purpose is to glorify God.
Ignore it if you wish, but there are many different types of games. The only one things that they have in common, are that they are called "games", and they are played.
