& The Entrance

You can’t miss the archway that is the entrance to the carnival, it is wide enough for nearly seven men to walk through without bumping shoulders. In its better days, the sign was a brilliant shade of red, outlined in gold and filigree, and at night the light bulbs proudly flashed, catching your eye to the entrance of Carnivale. Nowadays, the paint is faded and chipped. Hardly any of the lights work anymore. The supports on either side have seen better days, too… This is the only way for Townies to enter or leave and although there is an access road by the suites, most Carnies prefer this route for their own comings and goings as well.

& House of Mirrors

The mirror maze is a staple in many traveling shows and amusement parks, but the Carnivale's House of Mirrors is said to be one of the best in the business. Careful, you can get lost for hours! It is the operator's full time job to run in and out cleaning mirrors throughout the day.

& At' Show

'At' is short for "Athletic" and indicates a wrestling show where locals are challenged to enter the ring and beat (or last a certain amount of time against) the carnival's champion wrestler. The local boys might be persuaded to secretly cooperate, delivering an arranged win or loss as intended. Matches usually last less than five minutes, followed by a return to the outside platform, where the loser (always the townie in the first match) loudly demands a rematch, complaining that he'd been cheated. The traveling wrestlers have an effective repertoire of "concession holds", or "hooks," which lets them end the match in an assured victory at will. The hooks are so painful that the local boy usually shout a loud "uncle" or "I give" or just "aaaaaargh!", eliminating any suspicion that the referee has ruled unfairly.

& Nightmare Alley

This is where you go to see the shocking and the gross. This is were the "wolf man" resides, along side him are the performers who bite the heads off of living chickens, sit in glass boxes of snakes and spiders all day long, and various other acts from the simply gross to the totally unbelievable.

& Burlesque Show

'Cootch Show', ‘The Harem’, ‘Midnight Tent’, ‘Adult’s Only’… There are many names for this hidden tent but it only has one purpose: pleasure. Here is where the dancers flaunt their assets for tips and advertise the not-so-accepted business of sex for cash. The location of the tent is only found by word-of-mouth so as to keep curious little boys from sneaking a peek and angry wives from finding their unhappy husbands…

& Children's Rides

Where cotton candy hangs from strings, clowns smile and juggle to entertain, and horses chase each other around in circles for the amusement of their riders... But once the lights fade, this place is a ghost town. It's one of the creepiest places in the carnival.

& The Ferris Wheel

It’s a giant wheel that goes around in a circle, creaking and groaning from old age, but people come from miles around just to have a ride on the legendary Ferris Wheel. Lovers, children, and people reminiscing about a simpler time take a short ride to the top, breathe in the polluted air and gaze up at the hazy sky before coming back down to the ground.

& Various Rides

Surrounding the Ferris Wheel in a large circle is a carousel, the Zipper, the Swings and a few other well known carnival rides that have seen better days but are totally safe. There's a beautiful house of mirrors and fun mazes that everyone enjoys. It only takes a few tickets to enjoy a taste of your childhood, so step right up!

& The Arcade
Not an actual Arcade, but a row of gaming booths where Barkers and Shop owners call out for people to test their strength, aim, and luck all for a giant stuffed dog. Some are actually not rigged, although you have to take a chance to win.

& The Menagerie

More commonly known as The Freak Show; a staple in the carnival for ages. This is where commoners can come and gawk at the physical freaks of the world, even though they are slowly starving to death and probably burning like a torch from the inside out, at lease they don’t look like these pathetic creatures. Many of the menagerie attractions spend their days sitting in cages that have hidden doors so they can step out if they need a break of after closing. Outside their cages, large banners display their names and advertise their individual deformity. For a quarter, people come to point and laugh at the guy with a horn growing out of his skull, be amazed at the reading of a Tarot card and generally feel better about their miserable lives.

& The Big Top
During operation, the Big Top is loud, smelly and crowded. Vendors sell popcorn and peanuts, children watch in awe of the elephants and lions. Performers led with the Ring Leader put on dazzling shows for the amusement of the audience. When the Big Top is not in business, it is usually empty except for a few Carnies practicing here and there. Roustabouts break down the stands and bleachers so that the performers may have more room to work on their trade.

& The Fair Way
The Fairway is dotted with vendors who have set up their booths and offer good old fashion, clog-your-arteries carnival good. Delicious! There are also a few games set up for Townies to play like Test-Your-Strength and Knock-Over-The-Milk-Bottles. The Fairway is also where you can find some fire blowers, the strong man, and a couple fortune tellers. Occasionally the Ringleader might pass through…
