CSSC 40K Tournament - 28th April 2012

First of all a big thank you to the Crusaders who came along and helped with the numbers after we had continual let downs by people dropping out!

Lawrence will post the full results up soon but I can firmly say all top 6 positions (of 16) were filled with Crusaders members! Great day had by all I hope! I know I enjoyed my 3 games.

Is anyone able to check Phil is still alive? I think Alison was pretty peeved he tabled her in the last game

Thank you to every one who was there and fro helping with the set up and the clear up at the end of the day.

We are planning another one so we will keep up updated on what we come up with.

It was certainly a lot of fun. A couple of really close games, but I was happy with the way my army performed. The thunderfire cannon was definitely my saviour in all 3 games. It took out a good number of nurgle marines, most of Phils infantry and all the dark eldar wyches that were running at me.

A great opportunity to play some different armies and the perfect reason to churn out the tournament guard list and not feel guilty - though a couple of hard lessons learn't playing vs David, just lucky that bayonett finally finished off the final terminator! my word was that game close! and shows my why my 2K list has 5 ogryn in it!

Lessons such as "just because its only a small gap, it doesn't mean someone won't risk deepstriking terminators into it and behind all your tanks" and "thunderfire cannons love shooting airbursts at infantry who've had their transport popped"

Painful

Happy with how my first game against Jay went, with the exception of that bloody Dreadnought that walked from one table edge to the other without a single damage roll on it, dispute eating all of my DL fire for two solid turns at the end. Final game against Nick was... well, I had 5 Venoms and a Disintegrator Ravager (amongst other things), he had a mostly foot-based Eldar infantry list with little cover on his table edge. It wasn't exactly the most balanced of matches.

Second game against Alex was a complete cock-up. I was able to blame the terrain (or lack of it) for most of it, but letting his Overlord get within 3" of my objective by the end was a stupid mistake. Still, had I drawn against him I might not have won the third game, so I'll happily keep 2 wins and a loss compared to what could've been 1/1/1. The third game was kill points, and I had 18...

All in all though, it was a great day. Well organised, well run, and at the end of the day everyone was still smiling, or at least pretending to.






Except Alison of course, who was tabled by Phil in their final game.

You have to do it in person sadly but as Stephen mention Simon and he was the last person to do it in person and it’s been a while since any of us have heard from it, so you take your life in your own hands mate

Just so we can see what people took does anyone want to post their army list here? That way we can see the differences in list building choices people made. I'll put mine up but to be honest it was down to sheer laziness I took the same list I took in December. My tactics however this time round were much better due to the sheer amount of games I've now played. Trust me to finally get to grips with 5th now its going

Results of one win (douched half of Lawrences army by killing his MotF and TH/SS temies with a wreck on their lanraider and they couldn't exit). One draw against Alison although she was very close to winning. 1 Loss by a single kill point vs Alex in the final game, mostly due to being outplayed by Alex and being too defensive.

My list was:

This army basically came from being the only fully painted 1500 point force I have. Even so, 5 of the models aren't quite finished. It beat the grey knights comprehensively. It struggled against the feel no pain and high toughness of the death guard, finally losing my objective in the 7th turn. It had no answer to Sami's venom spam. All in all it performed ok for such an unoptimised army.
