Title: The Decay Host of the Forest
Description: an alternative take on wood elves

Graham Radden - October 19, 2011 10:49 AM (GMT)
The night air within the clearing was deathly cold. The oak at its centre, ancient and knotted, had been prepared for the ritual. The symbols had been carved and the appropriate sacrifices made. The entrails of the unfortunates were now arranged in a fashion most pleasing to the arch mage of decay.

He hovered over the assembled group on insect like wings, a magnificent gift from his beneficent master, and settled on the ground in front of the great tree. A man stripped to his waste, his disturbingly pallid flesh rendered even brighter in the moon light, was struggling against the restraints binding him to the tree.
Reaching a necrotized hand into the folds of his fetid cloak the arch mage produced a seed. Small and seemingly unremarkable especially in a forest, this item represented the culmination of years of research and experimentation. He held it aloft and let the moonlight play across its surface. With the glimmer of the half light the arch mages multifaceted eyes picked up the intricate script that covered the surface of the seed.
Suddenly he leapt forward and descended upon the bound man ramming the seed into his mouth and forcing him to swallow. After a few moments of flurrying he retreated back to a safe distance.
With his back to the mighty tree the man drooled, his head lolling about. It seemed as if nothing would happen, another failure to sustain itself within the host. Then the screaming started.
Some of the group, mostly the newer members turned there heads away, some were sick. The screaming didn’t abate. A sickly, wet fleshy noise began to be punctuated by cracks like twigs snapping. The bound man writhed at his restraints, mewing about helplessly as branches began to protrude from his skin and his bulk suddenly drastically increased beyond all normal human proportions.

On the other side of the clearing the arch mage turned to his nearest acolyte, ‘it is finally a success, bring me the next subjects for their blessings’.

Looking good! Watching some Warhammer being played on Tuesday I thought about starting a Wood Elf force (somebody has a very nice WE army). Interesting take on it.

Awesome and disgusting (in equal quantities)

You've given yourself quite a bit of work to do converting absolutely everything!

looking good mate, have you got a name yet

Lawrence - October 25, 2011 08:03 AM (GMT)

You and me both mate , you just have to think what the finished models will look like, that’s what keeps me going lol

Like the giant beast, what colour is he going to be ?

GitfindaGeneral - November 1, 2011 03:35 PM (GMT)
Groovy! Those rusted weapons came out really well :)

Graham Radden - November 20, 2011 10:04 PM (GMT)
hello, time for an update, been building my next 500 points, mostly adding 3 extra treekin and 8 dryads, and buffing the mage up to a spellweaver but ive already got the model for him.

First off I brought some new foliage basing the minis. got some dark green stuff and some new types of leaves check em out . . .

Im happier with the look now, feels a bit more like they are moving through a forest temple, which was the idea.

have built the next three of my brutes and got the first base colours down, these guys i have modelled with single hand weapons and shields’ to break up the units a bit and add more variety. In the end I am intending to have the last three with double handed weapons, so each unit will look very mixed.

this ones come under some missile fire.

I have also put together my counts as dryads made from ghouls, max mini heads and some bits of trees.
My concept is that when the Arch Mages experiments go wrong and the host is not possessed by the tree fully the result is these guys, left wracked by pain and shunned by the dread host they roam around in pack picking off straggling enemy units.

The filler between the models is removable as well so when they end up in combat it can be removed and they can rank up!

oooh and although not part of this months 500points ive also built one of the nobles for next month. ive tried to represent all his upgrades, (just for fun) hail of doom arrow for the drum fed repeating crossbow, charmed sheild with fetishes, and the crow of Morr for the lamentations of despair.

let us know what you think, cheers.

orkula - November 21, 2011 08:09 AM (GMT)
Cunning idea on the skirmisher trays. Consider that idea stolen!

I like the OTT crossbow on the noble. It actually looks like it'd fire a Hail of Doom Arrows!

Gambit316 - November 21, 2011 01:28 PM (GMT)
Liking the Noble, especially your idea for Hail of Doom Arrow.

Treekin and Dryads are interesting, had you thought about adding an evil Branchwraith character.

Also there's a evil tree in the Beastmen book i think called the Tree of Woe, could be used as a Treeman in your army if your doing one.

thanks guys,

tis a cool concept gambit been list bashing recently however and cant quite fit a branchwrath in, tell me what u think . . . .

Spellweaver - beast
lvl 4
dispel scroll
power stone - throws savage beast and curse about etc, hides in guard unit.

Highborn
wild rider
stag
dawnspear
glittering scales - (a controversial one i know, combat lords are not supposed to be good, but let me tell you my plan,) he sits with treekin hits enemy unit with Dawnspear at I8 and 5 attacks (any wounds taken = -1 for unit to hit back), a bonus will then be to of cursed the unit in magic phase, then enemy unit will only hit treekin on 5s or 6s depending on WS. if i dont get curse off hes got the scales to hopefully keep him from being hit. oh and plus im gonna make some crazy model from a mornfang kitbash.

Noble
bsb
razor standard - sits in guard

noble
HODA
Shrieking blade
enchanted shield
lamentations of despair - massed fire from HODA, sniping characters with lamentations and makes unit immune to/cause fear for laughs, sits in other guard

19x guard
musician

20x guard
musician
standard
flamey banner

8x dryads

6x treekin - will also be where the lord sits to make em a pain to shift.

3x treekin

eagle

treeman

------- treeman i was thinking of making from shelob body, half a ogre with great wpn and trees growing from back in crazy spider experiment type thing . . . but im open to suggestions!

2,400 points btw !!!

Lawrence - November 22, 2011 12:37 PM (GMT)
very nice work on the conversions mate , looking forward to seeing them all painted up and on the table, how many points is that list of yours ?

Maybe for your tree man do what you have done to the ogres but do it to a giant that would look epic and it would also really keep the theme of the army going.
You would have them all the way through the army from the small dryad trees right up the to mighty tree man him self :D
