I've been playing this NES Metroid for a long time, it's always been real tough on me though. Due to that and a lack of any real motivation, I'd always used a code of some sort whenever I played through.

Until couple days ago, when I decided that occasionally in my free time I would just take my time and slowly work on through it. I finally beat it, without using any of those codes.

Geez though, it made me so happy. It's a pretty rewarding game to beat like that, IMO.

So, anyone else beat it the hard/normal/fair (whichever you wanna refer to it as) way? I know I'm not the only one who's beat it.

Oh yeah, and maybe name off how many items and stuff you had. I, for instance, finished with six energy tanks, Varia Suit, Screw Attack, Ice Beam, High Jump, morph ball and bombs, and about 200 total missiles. I may have forgot an item though.

If you haven't or can't beat it, I even have some tips for you. Don't rush it, NES Metroid is definately a game you want to take slowly. Try and have as much as you can before entering Kraid or Ridley's hideout, the Varia Suit is a must.

If you have about 40 missiles and two or three energy tanks, a good way to defeat Kraid is to just keep as close as possible (I was litterally running into the guy) and shoot missiles as fast as you can. I only lost about one and a half tanks thanks to the Varia Suit, too. Ridley's a bit of a pushover, just freeze his firebreath and he's a sittind 'dactyl. XD
