PathfinderThe
Pathfinder is a frigate owned by a scholar who wants to prove his theory about being able to sail from Realm to Realm across the Blood Seas. The
Pathfinder is a three-masted ship carrying 20 heavy cannon and 4 swivel guns mounted at the stern, with 4 light guns in the bow.
The ship has four decks: at the top is the main deck, open to the sea air. This is where the crew do their work while the helmsman steers from the poop deck at the stern. The bow cannons are on this deck, as are the swivel guns. In addition, in a battle, the Marines will fight at the rails, repelling boarders and using Craft and arrows to attack the other ship.
Below that is the gun deck, with 10 of the heavy guns on either side of the ship so as to allow for a powerful broadside in both directions. This is the realm of the gunners.
The third deck is the crew's sleeping quarters and the galley. It has a long room beginning at the bow, with posts every few feet for the sailors to sling their hammocks. The galley, or ship's kitchen, is divided from this area by a wooden wall, and the galley is shielded heavily to keep a fire from starting there and burning the whole ship.
The fourth and lowest deck is the hold. This is where all cargo will be stowed. Gunpowder, food and water, trade goods, spare rope, sails, and wood can all be found here. There are also stocks of spare weapons, swords, arrows, and the like.
Officers have quarters in the rooms under the poop deck. This space is divided into three areas. In the middle is the officers' dining area. From this, the captain and first mate have private cabins opening off on the right side, and the Quartermaster, surgeon, and Marine lieutenant share a small bunkhouse to the left side.
Discipline on the ship is not severe, but as on land, everything has a price. Punishment is meted out on a case-by-case basis, but is never severe. The crew may be coarse sailors, but they are still Blood, and an effort is made to keep to Protocol and the Ways of the Blood, just as on land.
