Welcome to Blood at Dawn!
Generations have passed since the war, but there are still souls that linger and lives that are strained. It is a time to forgive and forget though not everyone can do so. Captain Travis Aubrey
Age: 35
Caste: Warlord Prince
Race: Rihlander
Birth Territory:Askavi
Home Territory: Askavi
Birthright Jewel: Green (36)
Jewel of rank: Red (47)

Description
Physical Description:
Travis is about five foot ten in height, with piercingly clear eyes that squint up just a little when he’s angry. His hair is a sandy brown, and he wears it long and tied back in a ponytail to keep it out of his face. His shoulders are broad and muscular from a life spent at sea, and he moves with a fluid grace of a dancer. He is a good dancer, and that smoothness of motion carries over into his fighting – Travis is a very skillful swordsman. He carries an engraved saber, thirty-two inches long with a blade width of one inch, and a slight, graceful curve upwards. He alternates between carrying it at his belt and keeping it vanished, but it is always handy. He dresses well, but simply, as befits a ship’s officer. He usually wears a loose white shirt, waistcoat, and a long coat that he wears open, the better to have access to the knife he keeps hidden in a sheath under his right arm. Travis also has a pair of tall leather boots that he is very fond of, as he has owned them for a while and worn them through the majority of his career on the sea.

Personality:
Travis carries a lot of resentment. Growing up as a Rihlander among Eyriens was hard, and he always hated the way the Eyrien boys looked down on him with their warrior’s pride. Travis has become an experienced sailor and leader, and his dark Jewels have helped to even the balance somewhat. A Red-Jeweled Warlord Prince is not a man to be trifled with, and Travis knows it. He does not allow much if any opposition when he is in command; he is very much of an authoritarian commander, but he is seldom wrong, so the men who serve under him all quickly learn to follow his lead. Outside of the arena of command, Travis is a calm, easy-going man, for a Warlord Prince, anyway.

He is also ambitious and driven to succeed. He first saw the sea as a carpenter’s mate, but worked his way up, studying and working to become an officer, and now his hard work has paid off, as he finds himself in command of the Pathfinder. Travis is a clever and inventive man, always able to come up with a plan to solve any troubles he finds himself in. He is also a bit smug when he is proved right, but usually manages to keep his smugness from affecting his relations with the people around him.

Likes: Good ships, tough crews, dry powder, cooperative winds, fencing, dancing, and music.
Dislikes: Calm spells, storms, bickering, sea monsters, leaky ships, rats.

History
Travis Aubrey was born to parents Jack and Ellie in a quiet Rihlander village in Askavi. His father was an academic who taught at a small school in their hometown, but it was not always so. Jack Aubrey was once a seaman, serving as first mate on several prosperous trading trips up and down the coastline, but he left the sea and returned to his hometown to marry his childhood sweetheart, Ellie. The elder Aubrey had a sizeable amount of money saved from his trading ventures, and he bought a small farm, putting the rest into other investments. However, the life of a simple farmer proved too tame for the man who still had a few drops of salt water in his blood, but he was stubbornly determined to stay, settled down with his wife. Jack turned to books, delving into philosophy, politics, and history, and one day he emerged from his books with the idea of building and running a small university for the Rihlanders. He knew many of the Eyriens would have no use for the idea, but the Rihlanders might. Thought became action, and the school was built. Between his investments and the university, the elder Aubrey quelled his wanderlust, and soon fathered a child, naming the boy Travis.

Travis was a curious child, always poking into everything and getting into trouble, but his parents chose to guide his curiosity rather than quell or control it. Mother and father started Travis’s education early, teaching him to read a little even before he entered school. Travis liked school just fine, but he was his father’s son, no question about it. He would beg his father for bedtime stories of monsters and mermaids and swashbuckling pirates, and Jack Aubrey willingly obliged, perhaps with a bit of embellishment.

Travis’s Birthright Ceremony went smoothly, and the boy emerged with the Green. After receiving his Jewel, Travis began his Craft studies, sometimes with his father, other times with some of the other Rihlander Blood. His weapons training, begun at the age of nine when Travis was first able to hold a blade, was handled exclusively by his father. At one time, Jack Aubrey was said to be one of the finest swordsmen on the sea, and he trained his son well. The boy took to the use of a saber like he was born to it, and Jack trained his son well.

Then came the day when Travis was to make the Offering to the Darkness. The lad went alone to the nearest Altar, and emerged holding the Red. On his return, Jack sat his son down and gave him several choices. Travis’s education was nearly complete at age nineteen, and the young man was a skilled carpenter and a well-trained fighter. Travis could either stay on the farm, go look for a contract with a court somewhere, or – here the young man broke in. The sea was his choice. His father had always known this would be the case, and he gave his blessing. Ellie was more resistant, but in the end she yielded.

So it was that Travis Aubrey signed his name on the crew roster of the Dauntless as a carpenter’s mate at nineteen years of age. Over the next sixteen years, young Aubrey worked his way up, eventually taking a position as first mate for several trading voyages, just as his father had done. Travis now had money, not a lot, but enough to present himself as more refined than many of his peers. Then, the shipping company that held Aubrey’s contract came under new ownership, Nharkhava aristos who moved the company’s offices and base of operations to the province of Calais, and then proceeded to ride roughshod over their employees. Sailors jumped ship, the officers refused to renew their contracts, and the company went broke. Desperate, the owners sold two of their finest ships to a studious Prince by the name of Sigmund Carstairs. Carstairs had a wild idea about lands beyond the sea, and he was willing to pay handsomely for a pair of captains and their crews to prove his theory…

Looks pretty good to me except a minor thing that confuses me a little bit.

Travis carries a lot of resentment. Growing up as a wingless Rihlander among Eyriens was hard, and he always hated the way the Eyrien boys looked down on him with their warrior’s pride.

This is a little confusing as Rihlander do no have wings. Eyriens are the only race to have wings. He could be half Rihlander and half Eyrien and be born without wings. You'll need to clarify on this.

Other than that, he looks like a mighty fine boyo.
