Description
Physical Description:
How would Lir describe himself? He's rugidly handso...or not. He is devastatingly good looki...nope. Not that either. Honestly, Lir doesn't care what he looks like. Fashion means nothing on the ship and even off of the ship, he won't put much effort into his sea beat clothing, choosing to forgo the shirt most of the time that he is on the ship. He will however spend a small fortune on a good pair of boots, preferring to save his craft for something better than keeping his feet dry. He hates taking care of the fungus and other things that occur from having wet feet, one of the joys of having a healer for a mother.

Lir's hair is kept short and is usually whipped around his head. It has just begun to recede but Lir doesn't wholeheartedly care. His face is tanned and beginning to crease from smiling and frowning from having to think too much. His eyes are a blue that are very similar to the ocean as the shore begins to approach. If he has one physical trait that is memorable, it is his smile. Its a big, Cheshire grin that shifts most of the features on his face. He gives it most to cheer people up or to invite someone to trouble.

Personality:
Lir is a laid back, go with the flow kind of guy. He doesn't get angry or sad. He seems to always have a good spirit, even in the most dangerous and down heartening experiences. His nature is to look for the best in the situation, at least on the outside. Sometimes, it is not as effective on the inside. He hates seeing people upset and believes life is meant to be enjoyed. Why get upset because they are about to fight a stronger ship? Savor the adventure and possibility of a conquest. Isn't that what living for the pirate life is after all?

Lir also has a great deal of pride. He does not tell people that he cannot read because he knows it would be a skill that would help him. He figures that since he's a pirate, he needs to be able to read the sea, not written word. He also is a jack of all trades, becoming easily bored with one task and going to work on another. Useful trait when people have a tendency to die on a pirate ship. He is also completely loyal to Starling Greene. Maybe for her he would become angry. Maybe. But probably not. (Secretly, he definitely would. But don't tell him I told.)

Likes: Cooking (without recipes), sailing, thunderstorms, booze, messing with people
Dislikes: Fire, pretending like he can read, tattoos for himself, land, sleeping in a bed

History
Sometimes Lir will talk about his past, other times, he won't. His father abandoned his mother before he was born. His mother was the only town healer and worked long hours. Lir learned craft from her but when it came to reading and such, she sent him to a priestess in exchange for healings and brews and such. Every morning, Lir would pack up to leave, having every intention of going to the priestess but when he walked by the cliff over the beach, he became quickly distracted by the roar of the ocean and off he would go. Needless to say, he never really learned how to read but since his mother was so busy with healings, she never really noticed.

Around the time Lir was fifteen, his mother met a man who he trusted to take care of her and so Lir went out to find his own path. He had minor healing craft but no other skills so to speak. It was pretty natural that he made it to the docks. It didn't take much convincing to join a ship, after all, there were plenty of ships going on dangerous missions who needed stupid minded young men to come aboard. Lir was just stupid enough to go and just smart enough to survive. The ships name was Helze and people had a tendency to die quickly. Not having any particular job, Lir took over positions when people died and everytime they made it to port, the rehired. By the end of five years, Lir had spent a good deal of time in most positions of the ship.

After that ship was destroyed in battle, Lir made his way to a beach village to keep a low profile for a while. After all, trying to board the ship of a territory queen just meant trouble if you were caught. So he began learning to repair ships while reconnecting with waves. After about a week, he through his bed out of the little house and hung up a hammock so he could get some real sleep. Then when the Wanton Witch came to the docks, Lir knew he had to be a part of the crew. It was a great place and he sailed on the ship for a few years under multiple captains.

When Rowan took over, Lir couldn't seem to find it in him to call him SlipThroat, Lir went on two voyages before departing. He was only going to bring Rowan down after all since he couldn't really give him the respect a captain needed. But, during drunken evenings, Lir remembered him talking about his sister and her husband having a ship and so Lir joined it, mostly out of curiosity to see what Rowan's sister was like.

He had to admit that she was a damn sight prettier.

When she got rid of her husband, he told her so when his allegiance was called to question. SHe was prettier than both the men. Would that save him? Hell no. He knew it would be dangerous for him to say that but then he gave her that smile and for some reason, he got to live. After that, everything just kind of happened. He knew that she was his queen but deep down, she kind of became more. They're relationship is so far from using language that he just kind of hangs around the ship, filling in when he is needed.
