After repairing a laptop with a bad motherboard, the following error occurred:

Incorrect MFC dll installed MFC SP4 reuired in Windows/system32

This was inside a window titled Wireless Connection.

Once closed the window would only stay closed for a few seconds before popping back up.

I started with a simple registry scan and cleaning, the problem persisted. dry.gif

After much research I tracked the error down to a Broadcom Ethernet adapter and driver setup that is common in many laptops.

In my particular case, this setup found conflicting versions of the file in the wrong folders.

THIS IS NOT ALWAYS THE CASE WITH THIS PARTICULAR ERROR.

It turns out that many things related to the Ethernet card and the drivers could cause the error, so proceed with caution.

It also turns out that this particular error is caused a lot by Rogue Anti SpyWare applications.

A rogue anti-Spyware application is one that usually presents themselves to the customer in the form of a pop-up add that you can't exit from without downloading the file they want you to download. ****IF THIS HAPPENS TO YOU IT IS BETTER TO PULL THE PLUG ON YOUR COMPUTER THAN DOWNLOAD THE SOFTWARE*** Get out of it if you can, but if you can't simply power off your computer and restart it avoiding the site that redirected you to the Rogue Anti-Spyware.

This should give you a good starting place for tracking down the true culprit.
