ashwood! That's what most people say when they see this place. Picturesque landscapes, beautiful people, and enourmous bank accounts basically define this area. Residents of Ashwood Ridge all seem to either be obsessed with what is the next new thing or the next new relationship or the next new scandal. It seems that all of the people here seem to be preoccupied with the trends and the rich and famous than their own lives. Teenagers seem to be the most affected group. More and more often parents would find their dear children drunk, high, or in trouble with the law. They spent their parent's money with not a second glance. Exasperated parents threw up their hands, tired of trying to negotiate with their rebellious youngsters, and decided to turn to the only thing left they had to cling to. Ashwood Ridge Highschool.
It had started out as a regular highschool, but it eventually evolved into a boarding school. Three-story dormitories now encircle the classrooms, gymnasiums and tennis courts. The school was very exclusive and it also churns out more Ivy League attendees than almost any other highschool in the country. Such high academic standards made any parent in their right mind want to enroll their kid in Ashwood Ridge High, yet with such high standards school officials had to raise tuition to "accomadate the cost of utilities and electricity in the dormitories", but most just thought it was the official's way of cutting a nice profit. No matter the reason, this meant the the lower-class now no longer had enough funds to send their kids to Ashwood. Still, they scraped together every last penny to get their kids into a nice college. Ashwood offered the best opportunities in this part of the country and the parents weren't going to miss their chance.
After all of the reckless living of area teens, parents finally decided to take a stand. They turned to the one thing they hoped their kids would take seriously: Ashwood High. They spoke to officials about a program to help teach their kids the value of a dollar. Officials were already in heated discussions with low-imcome families that insisted the school was over-charging tuition just to put diamonds in the principal's purse. The solution? Instill a mandatory program at the school. The program would require students to pay for the expenses for their own dormitories, like utilities, electricity, and water. They would also be required to provide for themselves, and buy their own food, and even clothe themselves. This usually meant students had to take a job to support themselves. Another good thing that came out of this program was reduced costs to the school: with the students paying for their stay on the school campus, the staff could finally focus on just paying for curriculum. Not wanting to provoke the overcharged parents more, the school immediately reduced costs to let more lower- and middle-class families send their kids to Ashwood High. What would school officials call this saving grace of a project? Project Opportunity.
Students constantly make fun of this name, and also complain under the strain of paying monthly bills. Officials eventually needed to sned counselours to dormitories to make sure that students weren't starving themselves to evade paying for food. Students were evicted that did not pay their expense and were not re-admitted until their parents payed hefty fines. Eventually both parents and students saw that the school meant business, and now paying for food and board was beginning to get used to. Counselours met less resistance. Finally this project seemed to have an affect on the adolescent community. Or did it?
In this world of hard partying, money, drugs and love, can these students learn to take responsibility for themselves at this young age and learn to be self-sufficient? Or will they just crash and burn? Will they find their way of life in their part-time jobs or learn to settle for less? Anything can happen inashwood highschool!
