I like the portrayal of the characters in this film. Everyone is self-serving from the lowest peasant to the high ranking nobles and righteous religious leaders. And when I say I "like" it I simply mean it is well-done and a sort of breath of fresh air.

If any character was morally pristine it might have been the dog, Tobimaru.
