drops of jupiter in her hair
It was well into the night now, and there was just under an hour and a half left before the time agreed on where the hotel would kick the party-goers out and send them to their rooms. Hye Won had been dancing for several hours, though after almost falling over from wooziness just about an hour earlier she had decided to stick with water - rather than the punch she'd been drinking - to try and clear out whatever it was in her system that had been making her feel so unsteady. She'd taken a bit of a break, too, after her little dizzy spell, sitting down and calming her breathing in time to spot a few of her guests getting a little frisky on the dance floor - including Joon Ki. That irked her a bit. She couldn't really put her finger on the reason why. Did it have something to do with those odd sensations that had rippled through her when she'd danced with him. No, that was silly. But whatever it had been, the sight of it had made her wrinkle her nose and look away with a bit of a bad taste in her mouth.
But she was back up and dancing now, weaving her way across the dance floor to ambush a friend into a dance. "Hye Ji!" She shouted over the blare of the music, grabbing her friend by the arm to swing her around to face her. The princess grinned over the older girl's shoulder at whoever she'd been dancing with before. "Sorry, it's my turn to dance with her. I'm stealing her!"
To be quite honest, Hye Ji was having a fantastic time. The boring could have gone on for a little less time in her opinion, but the masquerade... Hye Ji was always up for a party, especially when there was going to be dancing, drinks, cute boys, and the opportunity to wear fabulous clothing. Hye Won's party included all of those (though the 'drinks' thing was more loosely applied. Hye Ji had realized pretty quickly someone must have spiked it, in the age old fashion of young people at parties, but had decided not to say anything about it. She personally minded not one bit, and watching some of the poor bumbling teenagers - of which she, thankfully, was no longer one - flail without knowing what exactly was going on).
She was currently dancing with some guy (she didn't know who he really was or how Hye Won knew him - a friend from school? A second or third cousin? Someone's date? She didn't particularly care. Though, it would be sad if he was younger than her) when she heard someone call her name and felt a tug on her arm. She turned to see the Hye Won standing there and saying she was going to steal her for a dance. She glanced over at the guy - she was sure he had a name - bow, smile, and walk away. "But he was cute!" She pouted, before putting it out of her mind entirely and grinning. She hadn't seen the princess a whole lot that night, they'd both been busy being social - though Hye Ji had noted with keen interest the awkward dance between the younger girl and Ryu Joon Ki, a mutual friend. And she'd also seen them flashing looks across the floor whenever they thought the other wasn't looking. She'd have to ask about that later. And, if her suspicions were true... She let that scheme start forming in her mind and grinned, bouncing a little to the music - she'd abandoned her heels with one of the servants - of which she was not one! Ha! - a couple hours ago, opting instead for black flats she'd stowed in her bag before the night had started. "Hye-Won-ah! How do you like your party so far, danced with any cute boys yet? Enjoying being eighteen? Your brothers going to ease up now?"

Hye Won stuck out her tongue - she seemed to be doing that a lot tonight, didn't she? - at her friend and shook her head as she led them a little ways away fromt he boy she'd been dancing with. "I'm cuter!" She retorted jokingly, and started to wiggle to the beat. She wasn't usually allowed to go places where people danced like this, all gyrating and moving right up against their dance partners. Most of the dancing she did was at events, where it was simple routines that everybody knew and kept everyone from getting too close to each other. She was good at that. This took a bit of getting used to, but she was getting the hang of it.
The princess laughed at Hye Ji's flurry of questions and shook her head. "I love it so far! Except for the whole dizzy bit." She grinned. She really had almost blacked out there, she was sure of it. Now she used it to make a bit of fun of herself. It was the effect of the night, she supposed. "But I think my brothers have scared off all the cute boys," She snorted. They really were protective of her. She'd known it all her life, but it was becoming more and more apparent as she grew up. There had been that one dance though, with Joon Ki during the slow song that had played earlier...but that didn't count! He didn't count! He was a friend, and friends didn't count as cute boys. Especially not after she'd spotted him snogging that girl from across the dance floor. No way. That didn't count. "Maybe you should help me convince them to relax their security detail a bit?" She suggested, half-joking. "If you distract them maybe they won't bother any boys who try to get as close to me as you were with that one." She nodded in the direction of the guy she'd pulled Hye Ji away from.
Hye Ji let out a sigh filled with long suffering. "I guess, but I can't flirt with you! So you owe me a cute boy now." She didn't know how that one was going to work out. But Hye would figure something out. Moving to the music, she giggled. It did amuse her, how some of the guests were so unaccustomed to this kind of dancing. Ah, yes. Posh nobles and people too young to go go clubbing. This was Hye Ji's element though. "Ah, right. Did you take off your shoes, because lack of proper blood flow to parts of your body can cause dizziness." She decided not to mention the fact that Hye Won was tipsy, seeing as she'd said she would keep her silence on the whole skpiked-punch thing.
She gave a small nod, her grin full of mischief. "Good idea. Distract how? Like... dance with, or seduce, or do you want me to go for a more direct approach?" She cracked her knuckles menacingly and raised her eyebrows. "Which one is the worst as far as over-protection goes? I could have a go at him later. And I wasn't even that close to him! Not that one anyway..." Hey. Partying gave people the opportunity to be flirts for a few hours. There was no problem with it.
Coming back to her attempts to confirm her suspicions, taking care to arrange her face in an expression normal to her: a smile, part curiosity and part amusement. "Hey, did you see Joon Ki earlier? A little out of character, don't you think?"

"Well you could, you just wouldn't get anywhere with me!" Hye Won laughed outright. "But why do I owe you a cute boy? Seems like you catch the moths easily enough! Although granted, the masks might help," She giggled. The masquerade theme had been her idea. And she was ever so pleased with it. "They could be ugly!" The giggle turned into a snigger - oh so princessly! It must be the funny feeling still in her head, though that was starting to lift since she'd taken to drinking water - but the sound was lost under the music.
Her eyes widened a bit at the knuckle crack, and she squeaked her amusement. "No seducing!" was the first thing out of her mouth. Hey, she could be protective over her brothers if they were protective over her, right? "But other than that...go for it?" She laughed and grabbed Hye Ji's hands to wheel her around, then let go and resumed her dancing. "Ji Hoo and Hak Shik are the worst...Hak Shik might be easier to distract, though." Oh, boy. She'd just told Hye Ji not to seduce her brothers, but she could just see her brother falling for that trick completely. Hak Shik liked girls. Hye Won raised and lowered her eyebrows suggestively. "Not that one? Which one? Which one! Point him out to me!" She started peering about in search of anybody staring at her friend.
The mention of Joon Ki's name brought her attention back to Hye Ji though. Her heart had done a little flip at the sound of it. Hey, this was a dance, not an interrog - wait, no. This had nothing to do with her. It was just an observation! Stop thinking like that! Hye Won blinked and grinned. "A little?" She echoed. "That's the understatement of the year." She shook her head. It was an understatement, too. In the years she'd known him and the month or two since she'd gotten significantly closer to him, he had never acted quiiite this way. Maybe he felt just as funny as she was. Maybe it was a good thing she'd decided to start drinking water.
Hye Ji let out a gasp of mock horror. "But Princess!" Hye Ji only used her friend's title when she was joking, or in formal situations. "Isn't it what's on the inside that matters, though?" She chuckled. "But I'll admit, cuteness helps. There are some faces though that I think I'd rather see without the masks, definitely." She sighed. That was the downside of masquerades. Even if you met someone really nice and fun, you couldn't really know anything - even if they told you their name, because they could very well be lying about it. Hell, Hye Ji had already given out three false identities that night. because it was fun - you couldn't really know them until you got a peek under their mask.
The pout quickly left her face to be replaced with her usual mischievous grin. "Aw, why not? Your whole family is just way too attractive, it's not fair." She shook her head sadly, surprised into giggles when Hye spun her around. "Sure, then. I'll see what I can do. I shall figure out a way to distract your brothers without using my feminine wiles." She waggled her eyebrows on the last words, but she was seriously considering the idea. She didn't mind taking out a small chunk of her evening to distract one of the princess's brothers, if it meant that her friend could have a little more freedom. Hye Won was right, though, she'd have to go for Hak Shik. Ji Hoo still seemed pretty impenetrable.
Oh, and now Hye was getting onto her about the guy thing. She shrugged a little helplessly and glanced around. "I dunno. All the guys here look the same, as far as the suits-and-masks-thing goes. Besides, it doesn't even matter. Nothing that happens between people at parties means anything anyways." Though, she could name some exceptions, such as...
"Yeah. Hey, didn't you dance with him? Was he acting okay, then? Also, can he even dance or was he just like one of those mechanical wind up toys that shuffles around all stiffly?" She watched Hye closely, though behind her mask, it wasn't too noticeable. She could be wrong (unlikely, considering her record. Hye Ji considered herself brilliant at this sort of thing), but she'd seen Joon Ki's face after he and Hye had danced together, and she'd seen them sneaking glances. They might not know it yet, but Hye Ji was all over this.

Hye Won couldn't help but giggle at her friend's gasp and offended face, and a little snort escape through her nose at the same time, causing her to giggle more. "Of course it does!" She flapped her hands adamantly and twirled on the spot, continuing to wiggle to the beat. "Which faces are those?" She asked over the music. "You should point them out to me! We could tango and you can use the arm to show me who!" Where the heck were these ideas coming from? They were very silly. Hye Won grinned. Way too attractive? Normally a comment like that would annoy her, if it came from one of her classmates. From Hye Ji, it was different. Hye Ji was a proper friend. "Hah! We have people who take care of that, you know." And she should know. really. Hye Won giggled and shook her head. "Maybe sending you after Hak Shik isn't such a good idea." She joked, of course. Although, Hak Shik was a bit of a playboy. Well hey, if it got her out of their attention for a little bit...
...did she even want to be out of their minds? There were certain cases, but overall they were a pretty good security system for unwanted attention.
Hye Won stuck her tongue out at Hye Ji, but she nodded her agreement. "True, and the masks help keep anything that does happen from being too awkward," Although, if two people took off the masks to start swapping saliva or if their masks ended above their lips, that bonus was negated. Not that kisses were what she'd been planning for this party, no more than the funny way her head was acting up. And she was sure it was the fuzzy, slightly pounding feelings in her head was the reason she felt so uneasy when Hye Ji brought the topic back to Joon Ki. It didn't matter that it made no sense, nothing seemed to make too much right now anyways, so her theory fit right in. "Um, he was fine,"He was very close."I didn't notice any robot moves, anyways."Because I was a bit distracted by how close we were. But that's normal, right? Hye Won shook her head and laughed. "But it was a slow song, those are easier. Maybe if we'd been dancing to the song before it he would have been...not as good." She grinned.
