PLOT
Once upon a time there was an ancient ruling line in Korea, dating back to 1325. Japan invaded the country and got rid of this line, starting with their king and queen. The country was torn into two along the 38th parallal as a result, with the north being deemed vile and destructive and the south being a modern country seen as an ally of the free world. And the Royal Family? Well, they turned into something less important than who was winning the newest music award. Idols became the new hottest trend and ultimately, the new royal family.
Rewind.
Korea isn't a divided country but still one. The ruling family never succumbed to Japanese political attacks. The north never seceded; Korea is one united country, under the rule of the Yi Family.
Unlike other royal families that have succumbed to the shift towards modernity in the world, the Yi King has never relinquished power. There is democracy, yes, but a different sort than any other country, where there is no president or prime minister representing the view of the people but a king and queen. Which means that the center of all of Korea is the capital city, Seoul.
Seoul is unlike any other modern city. Akin to the Forbidden City of China, Seoul is a place only open to those allowed to enter. It's no mere tourist attraction, although foreigners are occasionally allowed access. But, it is the home to the court. The royal family, theirrelatives, various politicians, and the people needed to create life for them are the only residents allowed to live in the city. A few store owners, school teachers, etc. All other residents of Korea? Kept on the outside after night falls. Seoul is still a bustling city, as all other capitals are. But to be a
resident of Seoul? Well, you need to be something a bit more than just the average Korean.
But some people disagree. They want, sometimes need to be on the inside, where everything is happening. And some have managed to get in.
So what about you? Are you on the inside or out?
