From the dust and the fog of past times ( around 1985) came a Hero, a chosen one .
HeŽs been leading army for centuries, eons may be, a formidable warrior he was. Chosen by his Dark God , He grew in strengh and power over the times and now he will enter the 40th millenium.

Soon you will know his name
Soon you wil know his face
Soon you will experience his power

I was challenged some time ago by some people on the B&C to try to get this hero made.

After 2 month of thinking ( yeah IŽm that slow) I finally got the idea right.

I think will be my most ambitious project yet,; iŽll have to completely modify the figure ( understand a lot of sawing and GS...), if I can do want I imagined, I might even try to enter GD with him...

"Who is he" I hear you ask ?
You Žll see tongue.gif

Only another one has the answer, let him not betray the secret...wink.gif

Hello Brothers,

When I fisrt presented my Alpha Legion Lord 2 month ago on The Bolter and the Chainsword, Azadul and Sangarunya suggested me a challenge, a 40k version of Kaleb Daark the Ultimate Mala champion.

For those of you that don't know who he is here are some links

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malal

and this site host the first part of the comic.

http://dreadaxe.pagesperso-orange.fr/Scans.../KalebDaark.htm

Now, I had several idea at the beginning, the laziest of 'em was to simply do a copy of the AL lord and just change the head and the axe ( shame on me  )

But I really like this character and I wanted to give him justice. I searched my bits boxes and I found an Inquisitor Artemis head. I tought It could have been of some use with minor alterations (eye, ear, maybe chin....). That's when the idea came

make him a demon prince!!!!

Then I looked for the second trademark item of Kaleb> Dreadaxe, his daemon weapon....
I liked the look of this axe so I wanted to say as close as possible from the original,...then I remembered of the WhFB Giant ' s orc weapon

user posted image

that I already use on my Renegade Baneblade. and that Cadaver used for his Awesome Defiler ( the idea of the chaos spawn eyes came from him )I thought that that would be a good dreadaxe.

At first I didn' t have any idea for the third trademark item the skullshaped shied.

When I got the Daemon prince figure I realised that I'll have to change the pose, Kaleb Daark's no ape...

First thing the base

user posted image

The legs had to be sawed

user posted image

the front torso had the be dremeled for the Artemis head to go in.

user posted image

Then it's time to find the right leg pose

user posted image

and general pose

user posted image

now let's see Dreadaxe

user posted image

This is only the first draft, the sculpting basecoat, to get a general idea of the look and the work left to do

It's a little bit awkward, the head is a little oversized But I'm confident that will diminish with the final sculpt....

the general pose is set so now let's consolidate

fill the gaps

user posted image

and prepare for a test mounting

user posted image

the skull on the soulder pad is one of the Defiler's head

And I finally found the idea for the shield

user posted image

I dremeled the arm , and used GS to get a plane area on which I'll sculpt the skullshaped shield, like it was absorbed by the armor.

Now the firts test mount

user posted image

The figure only holds with stick so this will not be the final pose
And I'm wondering if the arm holding dreadaxe wouldn't be better raised....

What do you think people?
Comments and Critisim very welcome.

And my apologies for my English, I'm french, so If you need clarifications just ask

Yeah, the haft was the only thing I was going to mention. I'd make it quite long to offset it's massive size. Make it like a massive two-handed weapon.

Base and converstion work are top notch- VERY cool

And the first update!

I had half the shield done

user posted image

Working on the other half right now.

more sculpting on dreadaxe

user posted image

this side is practically finished, I need to finish the other side and find something to do with the handle, I can't let it just like that...I was thinking veins may be....
but I'll stick with the one handed weapon.

I prepared the joints, rearranged the pose a bit and made another test mont .

I think this is the final pose. I tried with the arm raised, i doesn' t look that good...

Here it is so far,I'll have a very busy week so I don't think I could get more job done before next sunday...

What do you think so far?

I'm still terrified with the head, I hope I won't miss it

Wow, nice coversion work. Sadly, I lack the tools and resources for serious cutting and pinning, otherwise this would inspire me to try a Daemon-Prince scale Primarch.

Nice job. Don't worry about the head, I think it's looking good so far.

Nice Work.
