Unless my math or memory is faulty, 10 zerkers with a skull champion a power weapon and 3 plasma pistols (285) with a rhino with extra armor (50) comes to 335 points as opposed to 320. granted, this makes his list go from down 30 to up 15, but I haven't done math on any other units...

(note: this is not supposed to derail the posts, I am uber excited to see how the game turns out irregardless)

Okay, Deployment:
I'll mention now that the mission was objectives and deployment was table corners.
We rolled it off and he deployed first.
World Eaters:
He took the upper right corner of the table which had a pretty central building as well as some small ruins spread out around it. He left his Terminators with the Lord attached in reserve. The first Zerker Rhino was just in front of the main building, not utilising cover while the other two were similarly placed at either side, behind some light cover. The Daemon Prince was behind and slightly to the right of the building and the Dreadnought was pretty far to the right.
Alpha Legion:
I similarly left my Sorcerer in reserve along with my Oblit. My table corner (bottom left, opposite his) had a few low walls as well as some ruins. The Chosen Rhino was to the left, mostly out in the open, ready to move up. Riff Raff was close, but slightly more in cover, hoping to get close enough to assault without being shot down. The On foot Chaos Squad were in the building ruins, giving them a 4+ cover save and a good fire base if they chose to stay there. The other two Rhinos sat at the opposite side, in the open.
Three objectives, one in the middle, one in the upper left corner in some ruins and one off to the right.
Okay now that that's out of the way, turn 1!
He rolled higher and I failed to seize initiative. A sign of things to come? We'll see.

Turn 1:
World Eaters:
The Rhinos rev up and start moving. One heads towards the top left objective, the other two heading towards my firing line. The Daemon Prince begins moving forward, looking to grab some objectives and the Dreadnought slowly marches toward the objective on the right.
One Rhino could shoot at my on foot marines but missed. No one could assault yet.
Alpha Legion:
The Chosen Rhino headed for the middle objective and one of the troop rhinos headed for the right objective while the other headed in the same direction as the Chosen. At this point I was thinking "Too many Rhinos." The on foot squad stayed put. Fluffy retained sanity (boy that dreadnought does good work) and began to head for the top left objective.
The afore mentioned squad as it turns out, couldn't hit anything that wasn't a vehicle so I tried out the plasma guns on a Rhino but did nothing as predicted.
Turn 2:
World Eaters:
One of the Rhinos had the misfortune of ending up in a crater and the Berzerkers had to bail out. In range of my firing lane...Ha. The other one got within 6" of the center objective and they got out. The Dreadnought continued lumbering towards the right objective...and captured it...
The now on foot Berzerker squad ran in lieu of shooting (they were out of range of anything if I recall) and rolled a 6, reaching the left objective and giving them a three objective lead. Then the other Berzerkers ran and reached the middle objective. Eh.
The two Rhinos near the center objective shot and missed my on foot chaos squad. Finally some luck. Other than that, nothing else happened.
Alpha Legion:
Things were looking bad at the moment so I had some major catching up to do. The Chosen got out near the center objective and prepared to shoot. My on foot squad stayed put once again being able to see one of the Zerker squads perfectly. Fluffy continued moving for the left objective, retaining sanity. One chaos marine Rhino continued towards the right objective while the one which had been following the Chosen turned and started following Fluffy.
The first shooting was my Chosen opening up on one squad of Berzerkers. the Meltaguns did well, bringing down four Berzerkers while the Champion's pistol fluffed it and missed. The stationary Chaos Squad fired on the other Berzerker squad at the center They were about 18" away so there were about six Bolt Gun shots and two Plasma Gun shots, killing six Berzerkers. That was some decent rolling. Fluffy fired a frag missile into the Berzerkers protecting the left objective and killed three.
The Chosen charged the Berzerks they had weakened as I wanted to deny them Furious charge. Of all their ten plus attacks, they all hit, eight wounded and only two Berzerkers died. So that left four Berzerkers who struck back and killed three of five. Ouch.
Turn 3:
World Eaters:
The second Berzerker squad at center moved towards the assault already in progress. The Dreadnought about faced and glared menacingly at the approaching Rhino but could really do nothing about it without any heavy weapons. The Zerkers Fluffy was harassing moved slightly into cover. Then the Terminators arrived behind Fluffy. This looked like it was going to be painful.
I don't think anything actually shot.
The second Berzerkers moved into assault with my Chosen and understandably wiped them out. Should have used my extra fifty points for some close combat experts in their squad. Ah well. But this did leave them wide open for a turn of shooting.
Alpha Legion:
Fluffy turned around towards the Terminators. Seriously, does Fluffy ever blood rage or fire frenzy? My Chaos Squad to the right hopped out of their Rhino within about 6" of the enemy Dreadnought to make use of the Meltagun. Risky move but if it paid off... The other Squad moved to get into position behind the recently arrived Terminators. Also, my Reserves arrived, the Oblit near the Dreadnought at the right and the Sorcerer at the left.
The shooting phase was fun...
The stationary squad opened up on the nearest Zerker squad who had consolidated within 12". The shooting wiped out the remaining four. Leaving one squad of four and one of six along with the Dreadnought and Terminators. Oh and the Rhinos. Fluffy fired a frag missile into the Dreadnought and killed one. Aw. The other Chaos Squad similarly fired into the back of the Terminators killing none. AWWWWW! The meltagun the Chaos squad at the left fired at the Dreadnought fluffed too. I wasn't abled to charge anything either. Oh and the Oblit failed completely. and I mean failed. His Plasma Cannon blew up. Sad face for me. Forgot to mention, Riff Raff went to the left and tried to doom bolt but got smacked by the warp, losing a wound.
Turn 4:
This is where things really f*cked up. Basically nothing moved for the WE side. In the shooting phase, the Terminators and Lord annihilated my Chaos Squd leaving me with two scoring units. The remaining Khorne Berzerkers at the centre were able to charge my nearby chaos squad and killed eight of them, the remaining two dying in the fearless saves. One scoring unit. The dreadnought torched three of my last chaos squad and charged them killing four more. The only one who could respond was the Champion who tried to smack the behemoth with his power fist and failed utterly. Fearless saves killed all but one. The Terminators also charged Riff Raff either this turn or next and killed him. At this point I gave up...I mean tactically withdrew. So yeah, I've gotten pretty rusty since not playing since 2010. I need to get back into it. I apologize for this loss and swear that revenge will be swift.

Your probably right about the math. Mine isn't great. And I wish the battle had gone better for me but there you go. The Dice Gods weren't too kind.

Nice report smile.gif Killing three berserkers with one frag round was good going thumbsup.gif

If i were to offer any advice, it might be that you could have just concentrated on two of the three objectives; if he left a unbit of berserkers on the further objective from you, that would have been 320/335 points that would not have any effect on eth battle. I also think that when facing a force who specialises in close combat, you should not always close them down from the first turn; left them sit exposed on their objectives for a few turns before moving in. In fact, casting another glance of the Khorne list, he has one singular heavy weapon with a 36" inch range, so your missile launcher and oblit could have stayed at the back of the board and fired with relative impunity against the rhinos/DP before they closed on you.

Still, loosing in sometimes the best way to learn, and thanks for the write up; I reallu enjoyed it biggrin.gif

Thanks for the advice Warp, I'll keep that in mind. The reason I charged with the Chosen initially was to deny the Berzerkers of Furious Charge. Of course, the others charged in after anyway. So the idea was a dud. But yeah, I'm glad you enjoyed it.

QUOTE (Arkos524 @ Feb 24 2012, 02:18 AM)
The reason I charged with the Chosen initially was to deny the Berzerkers of Furious Charge.

This makes sense, since once the chosen had unleashed their melta barrage, they had little choice.

But the point I was making is that they could have done this one/two turns later; if the berserker unit in question had been wittled down by another turn of fire,m then the chosen might have stood a better chance when they charged in after their melta shots....

Ah yeah, I get what your saying. The down time from wargaming did me no favors. But yeah, that probably would have worked better.
