This is were I'll post what I have when I have some progress to show for this project. It'll be a long one, with lots of conversions and scratchbuilt things (I thought I'd occupy myself for as long as possible on as little money as possible) All right, here goes: Front view, I'm well aware that primered models are extraordinarily hard to see in pictures but I have a nasty habit of priming a bit ahead of time. Also the start of the power weapon which will be wielded by one of them, which has since gotten some greenstuff on it. Also, the guy on the right has a converted Tau flamer. Left view, I'm not entirely happy with the hydra but it's the best one I've done on that shoulder guard as of yet. Right view, I had no idea what to do with the right shoulder guard, I had tried the classic scale pattern and some kind of improvised harlequin-esque thing there, but I wasn't happy with either so I just doodled something out of boredom and went from there. Now I'm nowhere near finished with the test-guy, I will dull down the bright metallics with some wash and just do some more painting on him to start. To make matters worse I bought the whole wash set together with a friend who now has it in another city so I'm concentrating on using my regular colours as long as I can. I might also add that I enjoy building my mini's a lot more than I enjoy painting them, but more on that later. C&C appreciated.

Looking good! I was curious to see what the tau flamer had come out like, and I'm glad to say that I'm not disappointed. It fits in well with the ethos of the Alpha Legion as 'using whatever means necessary'. The shoulder pads look pretty good. What green did you use? My codex is still packed away in a box from moving house, but if memory serves me right, isn't there some fluff about the Emporer's Swords? Perfect explanation for your righthand pads and other DA bits. However, I'm sorry to say that your power-BBQ fork is looking a little basic. I'd firstly suggest resting it on a bolter-marine's lefthand, for a two handed grip (you may have thought of this already), and then it's going to need more techy looking bits, because the haft is bent and being so spartan, looks a little wrong. Still, looking forward to more updates

Thanks for the input I will be using a lot of tau bits for my army, so that mentality fits me perfectly. I used Scorpion Green for the shoulder pads, managed to pick up a pot for under half the regular price at a convention not long ago (should have bought some other colours also, mumble, grumble...) The BBQ-fork is basically not even near finished in those pics, they were taken last week to show a friend. I have since then improved upon it with some greenstuff, but it's still not finished since I want to add some more details and techy bits. I plan on using a two-handed grip, so I have indeed thought of using the left hand from a bolter-marine. The fun thing is that none of the smooth shafts I had in my bitsbox (mostly banner poles or spears from skinny elves...) were too small to be interesting, they kinda disappeared in the left hand... so I had to carve it entirely from a bit of sprue which kinda made it a bit variable in thickness I think it'll look much better when I'm finished with it, right now it does look quite spartan.

Update! I've made some small things since last update, not much though. Due to a slight computer malfunction I haven't been able to put them up for a while. On to the pics! The BBQ-stick has been improved slightly with some green stuff. Front view. Back view. Blurry sideways view. I've also busied myself with another project, making wings for an IC which will be made later. The stick snuck into the pics also. Going for the organic/really weird feel with them, not done yet but pics will be posted of the finished results. I realize now that its kinda hard to make out the texture on them in the pics, but I'll include a topside view some other time...

hold the phone typewriter!!!! you add a sorcerer to your army you can turn that scratchbuilt winged back pack into the coolest nastiest familiar out there. A dragon/screamer style familiar. Just a thought. What you've posted so far looks fantastic and your sculpting skills are impressive to understate things.

Thanks! I was actually making the wings for an interchangeable sorc/lord and the idea was originally to just break up the sharp lines of the wings (I used the two of the wings from the tail of an old Airfix Harrier model) with GS, but it kinda got out of hand I actually sought out some GS sculpting tutorials to increase my skills just for these two projects, I thought they paid off so I'm happy others think so too I've actually never thought of using it as a familiar, but I might actually do something with the straps holding it to the character to make them look like legs. I am actually adding a pair of exhausts somewhere (dunno if they'll end up on the character or on the backpack) so I might say that it's a familiar which also functions as a pair of wings. Yeah, I like that idea. Thanks again Belisarius

Or use it as a disc of Tzeentch for your sorceror to ride. Either way, they are freaking sweet

Thanks Hereticus! Minor update. I've greenstuffed the wings together with the umm... middle part and added a pair of thrusters on its tail (I thought they looked to much like glider type wings to function without thrusters...). Also, I've started with the Daemon weapon/Force weapon which will go with the character, kind of a double-bladed staff thingy. I haven't finished the greenstuff work on the wings yet but I kinda wanted some feedback on the thrusters. I won't be working more on them before I have a PA-body to connect them to, I thought I'd run a few slender limbs from the power pack part around the torso and see how that turns out. The updates will be a bit less frequent for a couple of months, I managed to get myself a job in Norway (which kinda makes my summer plans a bit less free since I have to live there during the weekdays from here on for a while...).

Thanks guys! More will come, but not for a little while, an order for PA-dudes is in the mail, but will arrive this week while I'm gone abroad working... Also I seem to be running out of GS, but that's a minor problem since I have no time to use up the last of it Oh well, working gives me the money for more GS and the rest of the army
