I'm going to wait on finishing my Deathwatch too, until they get an upgrade to the rules. Although I still have my Alpha Legion Deathwatch.....they have seen action and wreck many a guardsmen lives... wink.gif

Finally got the second tactical squad finished today:

I was having trouble getting the BA symbol transfers to fit properly, as the models I used to make this squad were assembled already, and had the 'name bar' on several of the left shoulder pads; this pushed the transfer upwards, and thus the width of the transfer coupled with the curvature of the pad near the top played havoc with trying to get them to apply properly. I did the initial 5, and after a lot of transfer solvent and some cutting with a knife, I get them bedded down, but there were several bumps on the shoulder pads.

The next 5 I used Ageis' technique of soaking the transfer in the solvent, but mostly ended up gassing myself, and the transfers then fell apart after I had applied them, but whilst trying to get them to sit properly. (Straight) As I normally repaint over the edges of the transfers anyway, this wasn't too big a deal, but it did leave a few slightly unique symbols.

To cover the bumps, I painted small golden drops. But the little voice in my head had realised the possibility for an abusive nickname facepalm2.gif , hence painting on the title on the rather unorthadox back banner.

The idea is the shame/worry/honour/disappointment of their primarch just before his death is something that this squad tries to face up to every engagement. The tears could have been real tears, or the psychic death cry, whatever fluff you prefer. The banner has scriptures on it detailsing the ways in which the sgt feels a small measure of atonement can be achieved. Each golden tear that covers the BA symbol represents an act by that marine that went a small way towards righting the wrong that Sanguinius felt he had dealt to his leige at the final moment of his fall to Horus.

It's quite nice that both squads so far have 'evolved' their own individual character, based on their paint scheme...

Right then, back to AL next, Hydramark.jpg although there's a BA assault squad itching to deep strike onto the painting station quite soon.... happy.gif

looking good warp thumbsup.gif , that banner looks great.

regarding the solvent, it could be that your micro sol is a bit stronger than the micro set i use. you could try not soaking them in it for so long, say only 10 seconds maybe?.

Maybe; with the soaking in solvent, I did it for as long as it took for the transfer to come free from the backing paper; maybe it did end up being longer than 20 secs anyway? Probably the fumes messing with my personal time/space continum!

OK, so I said no more BA, but the GS work on that icon bearer has to be done one small bit at a time, and whilst I had a little left over, I pulled out an ongoing project to use up the last. As it was out, thought I'd share:

This guy was my original dreadnaught from when I had BAs the wrong colour (long since retired). He was armed with these T/L lascannons and ML when I bought him. Time went by, and other dreads were bought, but this guy carried on with his armamnet. However, it became a long standing joke that he could not ever hit anything. You would think that a T/L lascannon, with a ML to back it up would be fine, but no, every time he missed! I ended up just moth balling him, and using the other dread, who was much better!

Now, I've added the crest on the top, and mutilated the front sarcophagus so that I can add one of those plastic blood drops. But he was still the same old dread, and looking at his armament, I could not help but think that he was going to pull the same old tricks again. But being older and wiser, I thought that maybe life as a long range support assest wasn't what he wanted out of his (after)life, so back to the Techmarines' workshop he went...

After a lot of deliberating....

Some resourceful bits scavenging.......

Some swearing and cut fingers (and more swearing!)......

He was eventually reborn.......

As a SUPER FURIOSO! devil.gif

So there's still a fair amount of work to be done; both arms are hollow, the heavy flamer needs sone tubing, and I still need to decide if his arms get glued on, but you get the idea! smile.gif

I don't think I'm going to go ahead and finish this guy yet with a new codex on the horizon; originally he was going to be a venerable furioso, maybe death company too, but he could equally be an ironclad, and with the codex options uncertain, he's going to be a 'slow burner' for the moment.

But still, I'm very proud of him so far! biggrin.gif

Now THAT is a seriously wicked dread, I can just imagine him picking someone (or something) up with the claw just to put into the grinder part of his other arm.
He must be the one providing the crushed ice for for the drinks on all the BA parties tongue.gif
Awesome job thumbsup.gif

I wish I could claim it was all planned out, but the truth is, it was blind luck. I had been searching for ages to find something to fit over the obvious lego cross shapes, and when I posted had just received the 'spare' icons from my UM playing mate from his Drop Pod. I had a eureka moment, and luckily, they fitted absolutely perfectly, with the little tabs on the backs of the icons nestling really well into the cross shaped holes. Funny how things turn out!

There's also a third DA dread currently on my painting 'table'. How did that get there?
