Title: Chaos Terminators
Description: How to use them properly (newb question)

AL-PiXeL01 - December 16, 2011 06:51 AM (GMT)
I admit I am not very knowledgable about the game nor the tactics of it, but I have always had a love for terminators and their ability to deep-strike into the heat of things. However, I also cautious by nature and don't want to waste my lovies by throwing them into certain death and hope they take down their point cost before they leave the field.

As you can imaging I just bought a box of termies and want to include them in my force. So far I had a 500 army planned but now it seems to heading for 750 instead. The idea was to include the lord in the termies deep striking group and throw them into the middle the enemies lines for maximum devastation. To insure they would go where I want them I would have a melee minded csm squad riding a rhino plow into the heat first before calling in the termies.

I have a few reservations about this especially when it comes to war gear. My idea was to have 2 combi, a tl-reaper, 2 bolters and chain fist (cursed wysiwyg and box contents). This would allow my termies to blast away as they land and hopefully allow them to survive the enemy's so the lord can pull out his power weapon and make use of all of his attacks.

So real question is: how to make the best use of five termies and a lord with firepower?

Any other basic terminator tactics are also more than welcome.

Also, sorry, the search function didn't work

i think a good combo is having 4 combi weapons in the squad (plus one on the lord) and a reaper. plasma for anti infantry or melta for tanks ( whatever your list lacks more). 1 chain fist and mark of tzeentch to help them survive.

Well this is what I did:

I bought two sets of termies and a lord box. Out of these I made three termies with combi-melta, one with heavy flamer and chainfist and one with twin lightning claws. The lord got heavily converted anyway and the rest of the termie bodies got converted into obliterators...

So now I got three guys with combi-meltas for a termicie squad, and I can build in a claw-guy and a heavy flamer if I want, as well as the lord.

I love termies though so I might buy another box and make a few with combi plasma...

So, on the list of things to take you have combi melta, combi plasma, heavy flamer, lightning claws, chainfist, icon and eventually a champ...

The reaper is cool and nice but way too overcosted and isn't really effective at the close range the other weapons fire at...

I have 9 different termies plus a lord. The lord ended up w/ a daemon weapon, so we will exclude him from this equation.

I decided to for the most part split them up into a squad of 4 and a squad of 5.

The squad of 5 has the reaper autocannon, to combi-meltas, and 2 chain fists. This squad was specifically designed for tank popping of all types.

The other squad has 2 powerfists, heavy flamer, and a pair of lightning claws. I include this squad with my lord to have a close combat/horde punch.

I usually deep strike the first squad and disembark the second out of the land raider (depending on who I'm playing) and always take a squad with a personal Icon so I can easily Deep Strike w/in 6 inches and not worry about scattering.

I suggest thinking about what you want the squad to do then design the squad around that idea. Either way, Happy gaming! : mark :

Now i love termies, and have become quite infamous for running a large squad on foot as bullet magnets/hammer units, but should you really be playing a 5 man squad in a 750 army? that's at least 200 points straight off the table, meaning that once you add in troops and HQ, you'll only have a couple bare bone squads for support. your tactics, but mine say termies are for 1000+.

Terminators are really cool, the models and fluff is awesome! (though I really like the older models better, they had more detail!)

I'm sad because they are a bit lost in the codex though. It all boils down to two things:
#1 Lack of delivery method. No, a Land Raider isn't as good as they could have been. Only 5 spots and no multimelta or machine spirit is really hampering it's effectiveness...
#2 Lack of protection. The loyalist scum has their 3++ shields as a potent protection against anything trying to harm them, while we have 4+ from a VERY expensive flag...that can get killed by a lucky shot...

Loyalist and traitor terminator tactics are two completely different animals. While loyalists can use theirs as an assault force that plows through the enemy line we are forced to DS ours and hope for the best. That's why our terminators work best in small units with combi-weps, "shooting their load" and hoping not to die in the next turn...

Terminators are one of the last things I add to my list usually. There are much more important things to add...

Hmm, guess I`ll try with three then all with combos, a single chain fist and many an icon.

Maybe I should also paint them in black and white like Pandas and give em a banner saying "BEWARE! Drop bears!" ... Yeah, I know, Dropbear are flesh-eating koalas, but nobody here in Japan knows that! They think pandas are CUTE! It might add to their survivability.

That will leave me point for 6 additional marines in my other three squads. Man, points are at a premium as Chaos ^^

My personal preference for chaos terminators is usually a 5man squad bearing the icon/mark of Khorn. i use them as front line combatants.. the issue is usually the delivery method... they aren't incredibly versatile, not to mention that chaos bits lack a pair of lightning claws so you have to get loyalist claws or improvise if you're playing WYSIWYG :(

typically i run a squad of 5 terminator champions, icon of khorne. 4 pairs of lightning claws, and one with a chainfist with heavy flamer or reaper autocannon.

i'm not looking at my codex and haven't in a lil while, but i believe that gives them 5attacks guy with lightning claws, so 20attacks that are power weapons and re-roll to wounds.

very effective melee, but again, not versatile.
