Replying to nalzeroth's thread here made me wonder about what the general consensus on correct ettiquiete (sp?) is on letting other people handle your models.

Certainly, I always ask before picking up anyone else's models to look at.

In a game like blood bowl, it's generally impossible to play without handling an opponent's players. In 40K/fantasy, the controlling player removes casualties anyway, so it normally doesn't happen, unless my opponenet asks me to remove models that are on the opposite side of the table to him.

But in general, I wouldn't be impressed if someone just picked up one of my guys without asking, although thinking about it, I'm not even sure if that's ever happened. I'm mostly picturing various passers bvy over the years doing that almost characteristic thing of bending right over the table to get a facefull of miniatures :lol: I'm so used to people doing tha, and do it myself so often, it'd never occurred to me it might look a little odd!

Anyway, I digress; what would you guys expect of your opponenets with regard your models, and how do you treat your opponent's models.

I don't mind people touching my minis as long as they ask first.
I also tend to first bend all the way down to figure height to get a first impression and if I want a closer look I ask before touching.
I use to play blood bowl though and with that game you almost throw your opponents' players around

I'm with AL-PiXeL01 on this. if you want to touch ask first.

i do get a little nervious when young fellas start picking up my stuff, but hey its just plastic and it can be stuck back together. and if its damaged beyond repair then they just payed for a broken model :lol:

I usually prefer that people ask before handling my mini's, but I don't sweat it as much as I used to (espically during a game). I will usually ask someone before handling their mini's... and usually hold it by the base.

I've noticed that you can really tell the difference in how they are handled by people who paint mini's and those don't. I know players with well painted armies will generally treat your mini's very well (unless they commissioned theirs). I'm always nervous playing players with unpainted armies because they're more likely to be that same guys who will knock your mini's all over the place.

Heeeey, I play with my army unpainted! :(

...though that is because I am a slow painter to the extremes! :D

I personally ask before touching other players models, and have no problem with people touching mine, as long as they:

#1: Aren't eating anything at the time
#2: Ask before they pick them up

I was really talking about people who never bother to paint an army ever.

Maybe a better description are those players who turn up with their models all thrown in a big pile in one box, normally with a few missing their arms or other limbs - those guys that wont take care of their own models make me a little nervous about mine....

And AL-PiXeL01, you're right about Blood Bowl. The only real tournamnet I've ever travelled to was a BBowl tournament; I made sure my team was reasonably painted. I got there, and there were a whole collection of really cool boards:


But after a weekend of other people knocking down my guys (I was playing elves, so it happened alot!) onto the textured pitches, my team looked a little worse for wear. With the sand texturing used on all the custom pitches, it was almost the equivalent of rubbing them with sandpaper all weekend :facepalm:
