Title: blood angels
Description: reborn

ageis - January 3, 2011 01:47 AM (GMT)
well

as was mentioned in a previous topic i was going to start a sucsessor chapter after selling all my blood angels. i got 9 of them painted and didnt touch them again for weeks. i tried to figure why i wasnt feeling inthused to paint, then it came to me.......i hated painting them. i'm not sure if it was the colours, the tecniqe or the whole idea, but i just couldnt face it any more.

so i've gone back to my gaming roots and started the blood angels again

i think all i needed was a change of scheme or method of painting. so i got new models with what i got for my old ones ( wasnt going to strip them back again as they had been done twice already and were loosing detail).

i had a mate cast me the company badges and he is working on the blood angels chapter badge as we speak ( or write  )

i went for a much darker red to give them a more grim dark feel.here is the progress so far.

Really nice deep red you've got there! : Thumb :

Is that spike in the palm of the dread representing a magna-grapple?

WarpWhisperer - January 3, 2011 06:06 PM (GMT)
Ah, very nice BA : Thumb :

Have you gone for all the weapons on the ven. dread, or just sticking with the lascannons?

I see you modelled the preist similarly to your old corbulo. Not so sure on the white blood drop on his left shoulder... there's a lot of white there overall.

Go on then - tell us how you painted the red ;)

Have you got a specific force planned out, or are you just painting without a plan?(seeing as how the orginal plan went out the window anyway :P )

ageis - January 3, 2011 06:32 PM (GMT)
thanks guys :D

yes the spike in the fist is a magna graple. i will take another pic to show a side on of the weapon he has, but basicly i've mashed together the lascannons and assault cannon to make a frag launcher.

warp you may be right about the white blood drop. any sugestions for color?

the red is a grey primer, sprayed with ( tamiya i think?) bright red, devlin mud wash, blood red highlight and last a very fine highlight on the edges of blazing orange.

as for models i have:

2 assault squads
1 assault squad with no jump packs
2 tactical squads
1 death company
the dread
a drop pod
a redeemer
sanguinary guard
vanguard vetrans
scouts
space hulk termys
3 landspeeders
2 librarians
2 preists
1 chaplin

so that should keep me busy for awhile

WarpWhisperer - January 3, 2011 11:28 PM (GMT)
I would say gold normally, but it doesn't seem to figure in your palette for those models, so either the red, or maybe even black?

That's a sizeable force you've got - don't go painting it too quickly now; you've already shamed me by your progress too far compared to mine.... :P

Is the chappy on foot or with a jp?

ageis - January 3, 2011 11:44 PM (GMT)
so far hes on foot, same with the DC. i think i will have two lots of DC. one on foot and the next lot with JPs.....mainly so i can go buy a lemartes model

dam thing took me all day to paint

<_< Mate - one day? That's super speedy compared to me - it takes me a week of consecutive painting to finish a single sanguinary guard, and I can't even seem to string that together at the moment!

How much assembly do you do before painting> i.e. are the weapons/turrets painted seperately, or is it all built and then painted afterwards?

Is your red base spray from an aerosol can, or airbrushed?

And lastly, and most randomly, what are all those white dots from on your table? :D

ageis - January 6, 2011 04:35 AM (GMT)
the raider called vitaris.

i had the sponsons, assault cannon and multi melta guy seperate to paint it. i found it a lot easier to paint that way.

the red comes in a little can about half the size of the normal GW sprays. and they are bloody expensive. it works out to about 30 pound for a can  . but it saves sooo much time : Thumb :

the white dots are from a piece of wood i use to hold tanks and jump pack back packs when i under coat with grey. one night when i'd had a few whiskys i decided that i should just spray them while they were on my desk in the garage.....................admitidly not my smartest moment

Hey looking good : Thumb : (And nice to see they wiped their feet before having their photo taken :P )

And of course, I approve of the squad markings ^_^ Although, not too sure of the unorthodox use of them (4th Coy 5th and 6th Assault squads? Tut, tut, tut :P ) I'm guessing you went with crosses for ease of painting? (Not that I blame you!)

Interesting pads aswell; I like the company jewel-drops too; I'd never have thought of that. Very bling. But you've changed company, I see. Any reason? Also the golden sgt pad is nice too.

You got any special weapons hiding out at the back of that squad?

Does that meant you've got red and white spots on your desk now? ^_^
(You don't have to answer that - it just struck me that I seem to have a strange obsession in this regard that borders on the weird! Maybe we should not speak of such things again  )

ageis - February 3, 2011 07:58 AM (GMT)
thanks mate.

 pretty much, i'm just going with what looks good at the moment, and they can always be changed later.

QUOTE

mainly because green was they only color i could make bling, white yellow and black are quite flat colors. the yellow could be made gold but i think somone else has a 2nd coy army already :P . but also because the name knights of baal just sounds better than iron helms.

QUOTE

not in that squad. the next JP squad will have 2 meltas.

Though it is a mystery why they used my country's flag to mark anything 'tactical'. :P

Nice! : Thumb :

I especially like the fist sarge, that helmet is looking superb on him.

Nice touch with the (correct me if I'm wrong) DA helmet wings on the jump pack.

WarpWhisperer - February 27, 2011 09:26 AM (GMT)
Very nice : Thumb :

I too like the CSM helmet on the sgt; very striking. :D

I think that they're from the DC/BA Upgrade sprue.

Is that a white stripe on the helmet of one of the guys in the front row, or a very strange reflection?

I like the blue drop on the Sang Preist; works well with his sword. Any plans for some freehand writing on his scrollwork?

Is that GW static grass on their base, or something else?

Craynak - February 27, 2011 01:19 PM (GMT)
Your priest is amazing!
Can you tell me how you managed to paint the white so strikeing please??

ageis - February 28, 2011 01:48 AM (GMT)
thanks guys :D

the wings are indeed from the DC box. they have the blood drops attached.

QUOTE

yup i just painted the top of the helmet white, just a random little bit of white to break up the red.

when i come up with a name for him, any sugestions?

honestly?.....i have no idea  i found a pot of it in my cabnet and slaped it on. its almost like a cross btween static grass and flock. very odd

yeah mate no worrys. i just paint fortress grey, then 2 thin coats of white, then a badab black wash, then a thin layer of white leaving the recess dark.

Based on the 'reborn' nature of your BAs, what about Phoenis?

Very nice : Thumb : ... I'm especially jealous of the Dread's drop pod as mine is still clawing his way out my termite (kind of like me getting stuck in an old T-34; I got in the driver's seat to have a play around, and then couldn't get the right leverage with my long legs to get back out again; I had to be pulled out <_< )

OK, back on topic; those vanguard - that's three power weapons and a hammer right? Any specialised pistols? ANd no storm shields?

(I've got a pile of metal vanguards waiting for some love and attention, but I've yet to settle on the weaponry)

Do you use micro-set aswell? I had thought that it might remove the characteristic sheen on teh transfers. Although I realise as I type this that you may not have used anything with the transfer being on a flat surface...

ageis - April 4, 2011 01:16 AM (GMT)
thanks dude :D

the drop pod decals i just put straight on with water, but i may go over with a devlin wash just to dull down the little shine there is on them.

the weapon load out is 3 power weapons, 1 thunder hammer (mainly cause i guy with a big hammer looks cooler than a guy with a big hand  ) and 3 melta-bombs for the tank killy : devil : .

i'm not even sure what to say about that  ....

Typewriter - April 6, 2011 08:12 AM (GMT)
Looks really good! : Thumb :

I especially like the power weapon effect, looks subtle yet power-y.

Sounds like an interesting load out, big hammers does look cooler than big hands :D

Kudos. Im impressed.

WarpWhisperer - April 12, 2011 07:34 AM (GMT)
Now that's a little freaky; yesterday I made an impulse purchase of Astorath.....

Looking good : Thumb :

What prompted the increase in base size; stability or visual effect?

The texture on his armour is very good, and his jet pack is looking sweet too.

Any thoughts on how you're going to field him; Death Company heavy, or just to give the Red Thirst bonus?

ageis - April 12, 2011 10:15 PM (GMT)
thanks guys :D

yeah hes pretty top heavy and a slight bump sends him over, hench the double basing.

for the moment i'll just run him in an assault squad with a preist, untill i have enough DC for a whole army of them

doom whisperer - July 4, 2011 06:53 PM (GMT)
you could get a death company squad for astoraph as he is high chaplain

Your stuff is looking awesome! The richness of the red is wonderful

WarpWhisperer - September 5, 2011 10:56 AM (GMT)
Oooh, I'm seething with jealousy ^_^

Great job on all those guys; you've put my output to shame, especially think that you've sold off and rebought your army, and it's now as big/possibly bigger than mine!

I especially like the selection of independant characters you've got now : Thumb :

In the interests of constuctivism, I might suggest painting over the red parts of that transfer on the front o the land raider, but that's just being picky in amongst an awesome job :D

And I should end on the fact I very much approve of the new 'clean cut' image :P

ageis - November 6, 2011 02:26 AM (GMT)
finally finished these guys. they have been on my to do list since space hulk was relesed. better late than never aye

Stop posting gorgeous updates; I'll never get these Skaven finished if you keep distracting me with 40K goodness! :P

Do have have the whole lot of Space Hulk guys, or just a selection?

Just out of interest, have you got any plans for any DC (especially with Astorath in your collection)?

ageis - November 8, 2011 06:10 PM (GMT)
thanks dude. i'm just trying to lure you back to 40k

i have the whole lot. the TH/SS guy i made as a priest, the LC guy i have waiting for a termy assault squad and i have the guy lifting the ground up sitting in my bits box cause i'm not sure what to do with him.

Maybe convert him so he's leafing through a pile of codexes trying to find the rules for his current opponents?

Maybe I should add a green jealous smilie to the bar!
