Title: librarians use in the alpha legion
Description: do we have any?

While re-reading legion, I talks about the A.L using pykers for support roles, but they are not astartes. This got me re-thinking the librarians being attached to the legion. The librarian sects where still pretty small at this time so there wouldn't have been a great many of them per chapter. Them using the pyker Shere, for intel and prisoner evaluation was pretty standard. What do the rest of you think???

I think that the use of auxillieries was the legions way around the council of Nikki (?) And that given what the legion already knew about the warp seems to suggest they had psychers as well.

nikea ^.^
i agree with Belisarius on this one. they probably made use of the psykers gifts since the legion loves to be the ones who are most informed about whats going on

Personally I think we used them. Remember nikea banned sorcery not librarians. The question is did we pay any attention to the edict or did we even sorcery in the first place? I believe we didn't as alpharius seemed smart enough to recognise dangers. However if we did we certainly wouldn't have stopped, we just wouldn't have told anyone and hid the truth.

Gotta disagree with you on one thing Eetion, we would have studied sorcery to learn how to counter it if nothing else. Explains how the legion knew how to deal with the chaos infested planet with warding and the like.
study your enemy and his methods to discover their weaknesses.
Everything else said by Eetion is right on.

That was kinda my thought. I can't see using to much outside help, course it makes the clean up easyer!

Looking over the chaplin post, I could see librarians in use quicker than the chaplins. They were still new to the legions, but the chaplins were added to offset the librarians. Still funny that the librarians of the 40k era are still distrusted where the chaplins are ok...... seeing how they where set up by the world bearers.....

anyway 0-1 per army???

I have been Reading the new 1000 sons HH novel. It seems there has been a retcon. The librarian departments were outlawed and all members reassigned to battle companies and all practice forbidden. So we probably would have just hid their use.

shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! we dont have it out yet in the us! my copy should hopefully be in soon though as i have it on pre-order :D

Sorry. It's not really that much of a spoiler though if it makes you feel better. I shall say no more however.

no worries. im more jealous that you have it than anything.. especially since im almost done with tales of heresy :-p
i have however been contemplating the differences between the psykers ~ aka, Sorcerer v. Librarian
and to be honest im not sure where the council laid down the differences.. maybe they go into it in Thousand Sons. but its pretty vague right now.
"no, you cant practice psyker powers for sorcery! but ok, were going to sanction psykers called librarians"
what is the difference of the powers? would sorcery be considered 'black magic' and forbidden knowledge, whereas librarian powers are considered 'white magic' ?

At that time, they were still pretty new to the legions and musta seemed pretty scary. The reason for the meeting of nekia was to find out wether they where alright or not. Mangus has been heading the whole department sorta. The emporer knowing about chaos and would rather not have the librarians making ooops!! :D

they are not ready for it yet. course the thousand sons we asume ( in the new book ??) know about chaos and it's lure. The whole project is put on hold till further checking into it by the emperor. course we know how that worked out. Also next to the emperor, mangus is the most powerful pyker out there. Russ was sent to bring him safely to tera, horus was the one who orders russ to crush him instead
Later now that everbody knows about chaos, I would think the librarians would be re-instated to combat it. with lots o safe guards of course. It is stated that they are the pretty hard on the recruits when they train them. If there is any doubt. well.............pow????

least thats my take on it.

You see the problem with that is that it would require someone to counter the emperors order. That is something that the high lords are not prepared to do. Some older fluff states that the reason the imperial guard don't used land raiders is that the emperor consolidated them all And took them from the imperial army so only marines could use them for the siege of terra. Of course The emperor snuffed it and nobody was willing to counter his order so the ig has been raiderless since. Don't ask me to cite a reference cos I have no idea where that nugget came from just a half remembered fluff blurb.
To the original question. I'm really not sure where they are going with the council of nikea.
