This is not too original an idea, although it is somewhat different from what a whole DNA experiment is.
----
In the beginning, the scientists at GEL (Genetic Engineering Labs) used live subjects for their program. However, with the death of several volunteers after terrible pain, the government threatened to shut GEL down in their quest to enhance the senses of human beings.
Faced with the problem, the greatest minds came together and tried to think of a plan to continue with their experiments without endangering the lives of humans. And they came up with a solution: cloning. They presented their revised plan to the board.
Immediately, it was rejected. While the government was interested in having soldiers of enhanced capabilities, they thought the idea of creating identical life diabolical and wrong - not to mention it was against established laws. GEL was shut down. Or so they thought.
However, Cooperate Manager Amy Grey refused to stop. Finding secret fundings from an underground crime organization with the promise that the first one hundred successful creations would be enlisted into their service, they had the money to continue. Knowing that it was public news and no one in their right mind would volunteer for experimentation, they decided to go forward with the cloning idea.
Hiring, blackmailing, and bribing the medical world's top animal and fetal cloners to work their machines and conduct the program, it was full year of planning how to bring about superhumans with just using blood and some key manipulation. For, when making a human being from scratch, it was much different than injecting new serums into people and hoping a long-lasting change occurred.
On April 13th, 2089, they finally began cloning. The plan was to attempt to create life and grow it at a rate that after an incubation period of hopefully less than five years, they could make a full-grown, sentient human beings with abilities beyond those of normal people.
It was only 15 years later that finally, when tension was growing between their project funders and the creators, that at last there was a success.
The first success was called Sidnee Grey, and was an exact replica of Jessica Grey, the teen daughter of Amy Grey. However, there was an eeriness about her. Though she thought and spoke and understood and was actually quick of mind, she was much different from the original Jessica. She was quiet and cold and calculating. Tests were run and it was found that her mind was actually thinking and processing at fifty times the speed of a normal person. And her memory was shocking. While many had photographic memory, she remembered everything. Every movement, every blink, every word. And not only that, but she could mimic physical movement and move faster and was much stronger.
She was an almost-perfect human being.
For a perfect human being would be one who had feelings, and Sidnee Grey certainly did.
It was decided that creating perfect clones of actual people wasn't good enough. Sidnee was kept secret, because Amy felt that the created twin of her true daughter could never be given to the criminals.
It was also agreed that no more clones could be identical to people whom the scientists had emotional connections to - else the same situation happened again. Not to mention, Sidnee and Jessica now were perfect scapegoats for each other - although neither showed inclination to commit a crime and blame the other.
The next ten successes quickly followed.
Angelica Maroon, a girl who could see in the dark and had an ability to remain hidden from view until it was too late.
James Johnson, a young man with perfect aim with any weapon and unable to feel physical pain.
Nana Randon, a girl who could sooth anyone with her touch and voice, and seemed to have a disconcerting ability of persuasion.
Sandy Ling, a young woman whom became the fastest woman alive - as well as the strongest and having the fastest reflexes every recorded. She also seems to never tire, and can go until her body collapses and still be mentally ready to keep going.
John Williams, a boy with the ability to 'sense' things. That is, to read certain strong thoughts, although scientists would never be able to say so.
Zack Williams, the odd twin clone of John Williams. He has that ability to mentally sense strong desires and emotions. He and John seem to think with one mind.
Gabriel Antonio, a young man who has proven himself apt with telekinesis, in lifting both objects and people, including himself.
Candy Kione, a younger girl who has keen hearing and has often been called Candy Silvertongue as she can lie herself out of anything. She also has a sweet tooth, hence the name.
Mandy Scalone, the next-to-youngest girl who seems to be able to touch someone and draw out pain into herself. She is awfully happy-go-lucky for such an odd power.
Billy Tonivokis, the youngest success known. He was fully fledged only at the age of ten, and emerged with a terrible ability. Looking anyone in the eye, he could trap them in their mind reliving a terrible fear over and over in their head. He has been taken under the wing of Sidnee Grey, perhaps out of pity.
It has been three years since these first were created. These eleven have been kept secret from the funders for GEL, while almost every person afterwards was sent forward. They were left behind because they were deemed too young at the time, or were far too reluctant to become simple grunts for a criminal organization.
But not all is well. There is unrest among these clones, and they find themselves resenting both creator and all peoples who are not like them. While they are basically like any human and able to reproduce as well, they are generally treated as simple experiments rather than actual human beings - either that, or as dirt under the toe of the Mafia they serve.
It is rumored that a possible revolution of these superhumans could occur, and that they would take over the city of Filatious. Others claim these clones are interested in shutting down GEL and killing everyone involved.
There was also those interested in stealing the formula for creating a superhuman, or kidnapping current subjects for study and vivisection. The government is said to be wanting this most particularly, since they have become aware of GEL's sudden rise in underworld power...

June 31st, 2107. I have been given this diary to write my feelings and thoughts in. I realize that other people will try to read it. If I am to take this assignment seriously, I cannot let any of the scientists, nor my 'sister' or 'mother' to lay hands on it. I am Sidnee Grey, and this will be the place where all my feelings will be laid out. So I will keep this diary in the place where no one would look - that is, in a most obvious place.
Closing the hideously pink book with cat faces and hearts all over the cover, she placed the diary on her book shelf, hidden on the lower shelf, shadowed by a larger encyclopedia that practically eclipsed her new diary. It had been a gift from her sister, but from the look in Jessica's eyes, she knew that the original her was not giving her anything because she wanted to. Sidnee had felt little privacy since she came into existence three years ago. Her heart was hard, and she hid everything from everyone.
When she had first come, at least she had expressed curiosity and uncertainty and even shyness. However, now Sidnee was aloof, appearing almost apathetic. Never in her few years of life had she become angry or struck out. She seemed gentle and docile and private, which one one part was true, and it was the last. Sid could be gentle, could be loving and kind. However, she could also be violent and cruel without hesitation.
It was the trouble with being a clone. She had fewer years to learn life's lessons. Soon her personality would be very well set in stone and hard to change, as was common for people nearer the age of legal adulthood. Hell, she'd spent most of her life at GEL laboratories, living in her 'bedroom' near her adoptive mother and sisters HQ room space. Sidnee barely considered Amy and Jessica Grey family.
They were very different. The only thing they shared was blood, and that was simply because she had been constructed an exact replica of Jessica. Otherwise, Sidnee was quite different. She was more distant, more cold, more hard to reach. The only two who seemed to ever disturb feelings of love and trust in her were Amy, her adoptive mother, and little Billy.
Why Sid had drifted to the younger child was because most people refused to look at him, seemed to turn away from him. Sidnee was given so much attention and love that she could barely tolerate it, while Billy seemed to be almost ignored. So she had spent these three years being an elder sister, a caretaker, a guardian, and perhaps even a mother. Sidnee loved Billy in a sibling way, and would protect him from anything.
Perhaps another reason was that Billy had a greater chance of going successfully into society than them. If she could persuade Amy to let Billy go out to a foster family, maybe he could be normal some day, not someone born and raised in the shiny white walls of her world...
Sighing, she exited her dark, black and purple bedroom.
Sid was already 19. She was tall and slender and pale, her face pointed and angular. She had proud cheekbones and lush lips that seemed almost pouty. Her eyes were a storm cloud grey, with her long brown hair tied in a braid. She wore simple clothes of jeans and a loose, white button-up long-sleeve shirt. She looked comfortable. A scant amount of make-up had been applied; simply lengthening of lashes and a shiny lip gloss, with large loop earrings in her ears. Sidnee was not one to doll herself up too much. Sometime she didn't even wear make-up, preferring to work with the scientists having to stare and her sullen, stern face.
It was almost a sad face, that pale white moon, with it's almost hurt eyes and almost frowning lips. That was another difference between her and Jessica.
Jessica seemed happy, alive, eager and beautiful.
Sidnee was unhappy, dull, dejected and frowning. Nothing seemed to please her. Only her little "baby brother" seemed to please her and give her the blissful feeling everyone desired in life.
For maybe no one else cared.
So she walked the shining white hall, running a hand on a spotless wall, her eyes cast down on her murky reflection in the linoleum floor. Thousands of doors and rooms covered the building and it's five floors. And Sidnee knew them all.
Heading towards the elevator, she steeled herself for the new day of prodding and poking and testing and monitoring.
Just another long, long day.

[EH. So, I tried.]
A pair of violet eyes opened quickly, as if on cue. It happened every morning since she was young. Her eyes always snapped open as if something had woken her, but they never did for she had no one. The young girl was sociable but she never clicked with anyone. She tried and she failed. People just were not sociable with her, probably because they had their own problems. She had just learned to leave people alone and stick to herself. Her name was Nana Randon and she was 16 with special abilities.
She sighed and stretched her arms above her head before sitting up and rubbing her eyes, a habit that she had. She looked at her clock and saw that it was still early so she knew that she could take her time, instead of rushing like she normally did. She took her time as she picked out her outfit; it was something eccentric. Everything she wore was like that and it seemed to make her black hair and violet eyes gleam even more.
Her room displayed her just as her clothes. Seeing that she had been in this very room all her life, she added things periodically to make it fit her. Her walls were splattered with paint and she liked that better than all the plain ones that were located just outside of her door. Hell, she liked any walls better than the ones that were here; she just liked colors and this place lacked it.
She hated going to school, when it really wasn’t school. She wanted to be normal but she had learned that was never going to happen, it could never happen, They were a secret and no one could know about them. In order to go to a real school, people would learn about her and she knew that there was no way she could hide what she was.
She was a clone; an illegal clone just like all the others. It was fun at times, knowing that they were different and special and that one day, they would serve a purpose. However, most days, she hated it and she knew that everyone else did as well. Maybe, if they were closer, everything would be better.
After a quick shower, she dressed. She decided on bright pink leggings, a short black skirt, a pink tank top, and then a black hoodie. Her shoes were basic Enties. At least we get good clothes, she thought to herself as she ran a brush though her hair. Don’t get her wrong, she liked this life but, as all people, she always wanted more. She was never fully happy with what she had in front of her.
-
It took her close to an hour, but she was ready and she was walking towards her class. She now had on black eyeliner to match everything else. She hit the elevator button and waited, before climbing in and headed to a dreadful day. Really, she knew how to use her powers and she knew what they wanted her to do. Why did she have to learn that?

Someone else had entered. Flickering her stony gaze, she barely glanced at the girl Nana. Sidnee didn't have superiority complex or any such nonsense. She didn't feel more powerful because she was the first, the original success. However, she wasn't close to any of the other clone. Nana was lucky to get a glance and a grunt of acknowledgment.
It was easy to tell Sid from Jessica in two ways. Jessica would always greet cheerfully and wore swirling, colorful clothing. Sidnee rarely ever smiled at others or actually said hello, and her clothing was simple - yet comfortable. Often she had raised an eyebrow at her original, incredulous as to how someone could wear such uncomfortable shoes or pants when they could simply be comfortable.
Sidnee wondered if she had been born without the ability to feel self-conscious. That she was stonily immune to embarrassment and humiliation. She had seen other, later clones feel shame. But Sidnee was always perfectly impenetrable in her iron fortress of emotion. There was no way one could hurt her emotionally.
Wishing the elevator ride would get over with so she could be by herself, Sid gazed rigidly in front of her, her pale face twisted into a moodily thoughtful expression. This was her was of deflecting conversation that she didn't way - looking intensely focused on something in her mind. Truth was, she had nothing to think about except brood about the world.
Sidnee was a dreary specimen of life. She had found nothing to light up her days, nothing to be happy about. Knowing how she was born into the world and knowing that she was something more - yet something less too - than human, the girl had spent her years in a grey mood. The only ray of sunshine was her sisterly affection for Billy. But that was the only thing, and Billy had his own schedule to keep.
Closing her eyes, she tilted her head towards the top of the elevator.
Maybe, someday, she'd find that thing to live for.
Maybe, someday, she'd finally smile when she saw someone.
Maybe.
Someday.

Just great, Nana thought. She had no problem with anyone but she didn't really like Sidnee but only because Sidnee didn't like her. She had given up on her now. She spent weeks trying to get her to talk, but it was no use. Sidnee hardly ever looked at her let alone talked to her. She tried hard, too, and she gave up.
She wished it had been Jessica instead. Her and Jessica got along. They were not the best of friends, but they were something. They giggled at times but they didn't hit it off that well. Maybe it was because she looked like Sidnee. She had no idea but at least the girl didn't act like Sidnee and that was good.
Maybe, if Sidnee gave her a second glance, she would notice that the two were not that different. Personality wise they were both dark, lonely, and looking for something more in life. But, that was just the way it was.
Her fingers ran across her wrist, where her bracelet was. It was something that she always wore and finger when she was a nervous wreck, like now. Mostly, she avoided Sidnee but she couldn't now, could she?
She sighed softly. She wanted to know why /she/ got into this. Why couldn't she have been normal? Born to parents and lived in the real world. She could have friends, then and could get real sunlight when she wanted it, and not when others did.
That was just a dream. Her and Sidnee would never be friends and she would never have real friends. The world had no idea that she even existed.

Angelica Maroon, or Angie as she preferred to be called, groaned and threw her blankets off when the sunlight finally woke her. She was up late, as always. SHe was often up late at night, teasing people with her sneaking around and blending with the shadows. She didn't really like the sunlight. Not because she was a gloomy person; in fact, she was pretty cheery for someone who painted their room grey and black and sat in the shadows when she got the chance. She just hated the fact that sunlight prevented her from hiding well. She liked to know that if she was in danger, or at least in trouble, she could just walk alongside a wall and be completely eclipsed from anyone's view. She stripped her nightclothes away and pulled on jeans, a t-shirt, and a black plain sweatshirt. Her daily outfit.
It wasn' like it mattered that much if she was late. She didn't want to go anyway. She'd just be tested, again. She'd just be poked everwhere and shaken and all types of bothersome things. Angie brushed her smooth, long brunette hair and pulled it into a sloppy ponytail. Angie wore no makeup. Despite the fact she liked to be covered, she saw no point in hiding her face or personality, or most of all her opinion. And it was her opinion that she wanted a life without being a replica of someone else, without being secret and away from real civilization, without stupid powers. So it was her opinion that it didn't matter if she was late. After taking a quick shower, Angie made her way calmly to the elevator, humming to herself.
[I tried... And I dun like the name Angelica so THERE. The scientists will still call her Angelica though. xP]

Goverment Spy, Dylan Matthews, 23
Dylan Matthews sighed. He had to have one of the worse jobs ever. It was fun, but it was hard. He had been undercover for a few months and he had enough info to bust everyone here but he couldn’t leave, not yet. Information he had. Proof was what he lacked. There was no way to tell that there was anything different about the children. Their gifts were not that noticeable. You had to see them to believe them.
He was waiting for the elevator. He was going to get some tape today, maybe. He wasn’t going to lie, he liked it here. The 6 foot male was let in on a lot of things and he had learned a lot. Cloning didn’t seem all that bad, the 23 year old thought. He was lucky, he knew, that he had a job like this at such a young age. Most people were in their thirties before they bagged a job like this so he knew that he needed to stay in check and get what he was asked for.
But it was hard for him; for he was finding himself, oddly, falling in love. It was only one-sided, though, for the girl never gave him or anyone a second glance. But he was working on that. He really was trying. He was in love with Sidnee, the identical clone. He had no idea why, maybe it was the way she acted towards the younger boy. She never said much and kept to herself but what could he say? He was captured by her.
The elevator stopped and he got ready to go in but he saw Sidnee and a girl that he didn’t know a lot about, Nana. She was pretty, too, he had decided a long time ago but it was not the same and she was way to young. After a slight pause, he got in and stood beside Sidnee. He had no need to press anything for her was going the same place as Sidnee. “Good morning, Sindee.” He was always trying and he wasn’t going to stop until he left.

Sidnee blinked as a man situated himself next to her. Having been so focused on appearing deep in thought, she hadn't realized who it was at first. It was Dylan. He worked here, and sometimes she with him. Sidnee found him always talking to her, friendly as ever. He wasn't one of those perpetually happy freaks that sometimes she met, but he seemed to always be smiling at her and always giving a greeting.
In all her expansive knowledge, she couldn't explain this, nor why it made her stomach feel like it was moving. Sidnee was frustrated. She had searched through many books, but none gave any hints as to why Dylan would smile that that and make her feel dizzy. It was as if he were a clone himself, and had given the ability to give her illness symptoms. Looking up at him - since he was much taller - she blinked a few times.
At least she hadn't grunted.
To the shock of anyone who would hear of this, Sidnee actually muttered, "Hi..." Sid almost never said anything to anyone without good reason - except Billy. Billy received all sorts of pampering and attention and all the good will of Sidnee was focused on him. So it was surprising she would actually say something to Dylan when not answering a required question or asking something herself - usually the only extent of her interaction with not just staff, but anyone who met her.

Hi.
Nana looked over when she answers. To most people, hi was second nature and it was used a lot when they spoke. Nana hardly ever heard her say anything and when she did, it was to Billy only. Before she could say anything or make a bigger deal out of it, the elevator stopped and she got out. Sidnee was special and was still tested. No one else, though, just her. Aww, well, she thought as she walked to where she needed to go. She needs special treatment, she has some issues.
At first he thought that he was imagining something coming from her mouth, but he wasn't. Her talking made his smile even more, as if that was possible. He was quiet for a second as he was lost for words. He hadn't really expected an answer so he had no idea what else to say to her. That was just great, he thought as he mentally smacked himself a few times.
"How are you?" That was something over-used but it was simple and he hoped to get an answer from it. It took him a second but he noticed they had stopped and were just going again, the other girl had left. He swallowed hard, nervous.

Having already managed to say one thing was amazing. But as Sidnee talked again, it was almost miraculous. "Fine." Her voice was flat and neither happy nor sad nor angry or anything in between. Sidnee was just...emotionless. In her voice, at least.
On the inside, everything was on fire and she felt like her organs had turned to a squishy mush. Still looking up at Dylan, her stony eyes were intense. It was rare she turned them to look people directly in the eye, and this was yet another exception she was making for him. Was this some sort of voodoo? She didn't know.
People would wonder why Jessica's gaze was so much less intimidating, even cute to some. Sid guessed she got her piercing gaze from Billy, whom often stared intently and with ferocity at anything BUT people - knowing that if he did turn his eyes to them, he would trap them in a horror for hours, if not days.
Flicking her gaze away to her feet at last, she felt as if the doors would never open on the floor she would get out on, as if the silence was stretching forever.

She talked again and he was just amazed at her. Her voice didn't sound mean or sweet. It just seemed to be normal, but it was clear of all emotions. He swallowed as he tried to think of another thing to say to her, another thing to get an answer from.
She lookd him in the eyes and though her gaze was intense, he was not threatened and was still smiling at her like a blubbering idiot. He coughed, trying to clear his throat, but it didn't work. He was far too nervous and he knew that sucked. He was too stunned to thing of whatelse to say.
He sighed softly. "Good." That was all that he said and he hoped that the disappointment didn't show in his voice. He was hoping for maybe, something more. But, hey, this was a start, right. He noticed that he was staring at her and looked away quickly, running his hand through his black hair.

Glancing at him, she blinked. Pretty? By definition, this was physically attractive. Not as strong as beautiful or gorgeous or simply divine...but she supposed that it was a compliment. Looking slightly surprised she turned her face away quickly, although she observed him from the corners of her eye.
Seeming quite interested in the wall adjacent to her but opposite of Dylan, as the doors opened she stepped out. The testing room was at the end of the hall. She started walking. It appeared as if she wasn't going to say anything. However, half-way down, she muttered, "Thank you." Sidnee felt quite taxed by all this talking.
She had never said more that four words in a row to anyone by Amy, Jessica, or Billy. And she was thinking upon saying nothing more now, for she thought he was saying some weird things every time she talked, and seemed surprised every time she did. Everyone expected Sidnee to be the silent, stony loner.
It would be a shame to disappoint them now.

The lights in the hallway were always bright, too bright. The fluorescent bulbs gleamed and pulsed with the dull hum that accompanied their glow, and if one looked up, one would be able to see the occasional dead insect that had fluttered into them and become trapped.
Walking down the hall, Jon felt rather like one of the light-murdered insects.
And why not? He was in this institution through no fault of his own, through no choice or preference. Rather, he had simply come into being here... and was still here. Even though he was a failure as a clone.
Each of the clones, the experiments that were the property of the government (despite their own thoughts and feelings and dreams and ambitions) had a purpose, a special ability that they'd been created for. However, John's "abilities"- if they could even be called thus- couldn't really be measured by science.
Many of the scientists who had worked to create him were bemused by what had happened. By all accounts, he seemed a normal boy. And whenever he brought up the thoughts that spilled into his mind from others- they shrugged, made a note on their clipboards, and continued poking and prodding and looking for some sort of ability that was real, that was concrete and definite.
They weren't going to find it. All Jon had was his brain radio- that was what he tended to call it, in his head. Like a radio, his brain seemed to fix onto the frequencies of other people's thoughts, wavering in and out of focus and clarity. Sometimes he could hear another's thoughts as clearly as his own- especially if he was nearby the person. That helped. If he knew the person well, that was even better- it was almost like their thought paths had a familiar sound that he could tune into, like a favorite radio station.
But the scientists weren't interested in any of that- rather, they were constantly on him, looking for evidence of telekinesis or X-ray vision or whatever the hell they were after.
Irked, he absently scratched his head through his mop of rather over-curly brown hair. Glancing up at a bug in the lights again with his bright, slightly disconcerting green eyes, he gave it a quick glare then entered the room where all clones were to report in the morning. Adjusting his blue sweat-shirt- he essentially wore it every day- he sat down in one of the rather uncomfortable chairs and slouched, hoping his brother would appear soon.
