Boredom... the word, the feeling whirled through the Death God's mind. It was absolutely tedious here. She snorted and looked out over the barren landscape of the shinigami world. Ryuuk was right when he talked about it being mind-numbingly dull here.
There had been a decent ruckus several human years before, when the Shinigami Ryuuk and Rem both dropped their Death Notes in the human world. But then again, the death gods never did have an accurate sense of time when it concerned "years" and "months".

...

Now there was an idea... Rin grinned as she jumped down from where she was perched. She went past those two... she couldn't remember their names... the two who were always gambling. What a way to spend the rest of eternity when the world, the earth down there was so exiting, so vivid, so alive.

Rin passed them all by before finding an unoccupied window, (which was easy enough, seeing that the Shinigami barely did any killing anymore) and lowered herself through, snapping open her retractable wings and gliding down to the ground, amidst all of the hurrying and scurrying.

Humans are interesting creatures aren't they? They always act like there is something important, something worth hurrying to. they just didn't seem to understand that it never really amounted to anything except making their own lives more of a hassle.
And this is what precisely intrigued Rin, perhaps... if she were to spend time among humans, she would be able to understand them, and possibly... just possibly learn why the Shinigami were so lazy in contrast to the humans being so studious.

Her mind was made up as she took out her Death Note and held it in her long, red clawed fingers.
They always did say that curiosity killed the cat, but that never did quite apply to Shinigami.
And she was dying to find out if it applied to humans.
She let the Death Note drop.

Kyo was a young sixteen year old boy, bright orange hair and even brown eyes. Yes, he resembled the Kyo of "Fruits Basket" But his personality was opposite! He smiled, laughed, and enjoyed the company of his friends. He was just running home from his school when he stopped in the park to slack abit, he'd been at school all day so rest wasn't too unreasonable...right? As Kyo lay back on the soft grass under a Sakura tree he couldn't help but feel like something was getting closer...something big. Kyo shrugged it off and closed his eyes, passing it off as regret for slacking.

About ten minutes later, Kyo rose from his comfy little spot and began to walk home again, his eyes casting a gaze towards the blue sky. Which is how he spotted a small object falling directly over his head. Stupified and dumbstruck, Kyo only moved AFTER the deathnote had collided with his face,"AH! Oh..ow...ow...Damn." he began, "What the...Huh?!" he blinked as he looked down at the books cover. Ratty and a solemn black color with one word etched into it "Deathnote" Kyo blinked again, "What...is a Deathnote?" he asked aloud, not to anyone in particular, but to himself.

As Kyo flipped the book around, he took notice of all the blank pages within it's spine. "So many empty pages, I wonder...what it's used for...Deathnote...sounds like an anime." He shrugged as he walked off. When he finally reached his home he took off up the white stairs to his room to really examine this book and concluded whether or not this was accidental...

Rin snickered as what was previously her Death Note landed, not only directly in front of a person, but directly in their face. Good enough, she had always been the impatient type and couldn't stand waiting, unless of course... it was for a cause.

That ruled out her waiting for a person to come pick up a small unnoticeable black notebook.

She rolled her black eyes and instead focused on the human on whom her Death Note had been unceremoniously dropped.
He looked innocent enough, brown eyes, the orange hair was a little unusual but then again, with the hair colors on the street she wasn't so sure about it being noticed too easily she concluded as a girl with bright pink hair walked below where Rin was hovering.

"Well, now I have an excuse to stay in this world... might as well make the most of it." She said confidently, seeing as that no human without a Death Note could hear her, and she was several yards above and behind the human who had foun-- been whacked in the face with the notebook.

She laughed once again and decided that she might as well follow this one around, and see how long it took for him to notice her, it's not like she was inconspicuous. She said, looking down at the black bandages that covered her lanky body, her long dark red hair that covered most of her face, her sharp teeth, yellow/green eyes, retractable wings and maniacal grin.

She shrugged, this all being justified within her mind and set off to follow the boy, "Kyo" she read from the letters that surrounded his head like a halo, home.

Rin had absolutely no idea that her actions and Kyo's future ones would put into course a snowball of events, some related and some not.
But of course, dropping a Death Note never really did too much harm... to the shinigami at least.

Best thing was... she forgot to write the rules in it. So, her lovely little companion also had the gift of "Trial and Error" It would work, so long as he was smart, and if he wasn't?

Rin narrowed her eyes, if he wasn't very intelligent then she would guarantee that he wouldn't last more than a couple of weeks as the new Kira.
Besides, there was always the police, and that "L" person that Ryuuk told her about to contend with.
Rin cracked her neck vertebrae. Yes, this would be very insightful to her study on human behavior she decided as she continued to glide behind the orange-haired boy, trying to anticipate what future held in store for the next Kira, should he decide to twist his fate in that direction.

"This'll be fun, Kyo." Rin noted.

Kyo flopped onto his bed and gazed hard at the small notebook which had collided with his face earlier. As Kyo opened the blank pages once more, he began to go into what his friends called "Puzzle Mode" In this state of mind, Kyo is entirely focused on the said object of mystery. He rose, "A small notebook....Black, Deathnote written on it...Nothing in it but blank pages. A fallen Diary froma plane? Like hell. I haven't seen or heard a plane fly by here, and the breeze today would've made something like this impossible. Which means it was meant to fall straight down..." He began, He cleanched his head,"GAH! This is harder than playing The Da Vinci Code!" he shouted.

As Kyo glanced at the notebokk again, "What if I were to tie in the name with the purpose, generally how things work out right? Deathnote...could it be used to record deaths? Or...maybe even create them...? No, not create. Just record. That has to be it, a book meant for keeping record of deaths. If that's the case, I should turn it in to the morgue...but what if it is the second possibility. I can't rule out the Occult factor just yet." he puzzled.

Kyo was beginning to get frazzled by this small black book. If only it hadn't collided with him, a chance encounter with one of his hardest puzzles. He wondered if Uncle Ryuzaki knew anything about this deathnote...

{ Sure, you can be L when he comes into the story}

Rin settled herself a comfotable distance behind Kyo, lounging againsst the far wall of his room. She noticed the intensity with which he was gazing... no glaring at said Death note, that she couldn't help but grin.

These humans were so funny sometimes.

She watched him flip through the pages and then glare at it again before voicing his thoughts out loud.
Occult factor... she almost laughed at the irony. But then she heard something else, she heard him say a name, what was it? Ryuzaki.

Rin could have sworn she heard that before, but she couldn't quite put a claw on it. Ah well, time would dispel all mystery, she counciled herself before settling herself comfortably again.

But then again... just watching was getting a bit boring, and patience was never one of her virtues, that is, if she had any.

She bit her hand to calm down a bit. Just wait for it, just wait for it.

Kyo got an idea,"Well...if it were to possess the ability to, perchance...kill someone, the death would take place within a said time limit...if i were to guess correctly. I heard Unlce Ryuzaki mention something about a foresaken book before, maybe this is what he was talking about..." he began and bolted upright. He turned to his window and snatched the pen he had balancing on the headboard, "I S'pose it won't work for nicknames...only full...let's see here, who do I wish was dead more than anything? Yeah... He'll work as a test subject." he grinned.

Kyo placed the notebook on the window sill and wrote on the first line, "Gen Soryu" He then glanced at the clock, 4:50. he then added "4: 51 PM, cause of death -- Tree fell over and crushed him, he suffered for five minutes before the pressure collapsed his lungs and ended his life." With any luck, the man who stole his girlfriend would be dead in approximately....45 seconds, and his pain will be long and tormenting.

Kyo grinned at the thought of this, and scooped up the small book in his arms and walked outside to the park to witness Gen's downfall.

Rin made up her mind, from the look on Kyo's face as he wrote the name down, to his deductions, she could tell that this was going to be entertaining. So why not add a shinigami to the mix?

She followed him more closely and evaluated his personality with the accuracy of a scientist observing a test subject.
From what she had seen, his dominant emotion was laid-back and happy-go-lucky. But then, when confronted with a puzzle, he seemed to become a different person, quickly and coldly analyzing not only what the notebook was, but what it did.

But the look in his eyes had changed so drastically as he wrote the first name that that only solidified her conclusion that this Kyo was the best possible owner for the DeathNote.
Not to mention the most entertaining.
The one thing that almost troubled her was the question of whether he would continue using it after the shock of killing someone set in, and if so, what would he use it for?

These questions passed an uncharacteristic shadow over Shinigami Rin's typically inquisitive yellow-green eyes.
She fought the questions back and instead grinned, revealing her rather sharp teeth.

They exited the house.
Halfway towards their destination, she couldn't stand it anymore.

Rin nonchalantly laughed, tapped Kyo on the shoulder and waited for him to turn around.
She couldn't wait to see the look on his face.

Kyo blinked as someone tapped his shoulder. As he turned casually, his eyes lit up with what appeared to be malicious glee upon setting his sights on the figure of the death god. Kyo relaxed abit, "Y'know, I knew something was up from the moment this book...erm...crossed me path, shall we say? The Occult factor that was previously mentioned, was you...a full-fledged Shinigami. This little book is getting more and more interesting." Kyo said to himself as he turned to continue onto the park.

Another 2 minutes went by and Kyo sat perched under a large tree. The same tree that would fall in approximately 2 minutes. Kyo grinned, there's no way this would work...but if it did? Would that make him a murderer...? Heh, if it did, Kyo relished the idea...running from the law, such a thrill! To Kyo, this deathnote was nothing but one big game. He'd play until the game bored him, killing those who got too close to finding him out.

Kyo leaned against the tree, "This is going to be so much fun...to watch him suffer...He'll regret ever taking Sayuri from me!" he hissed under his breath. He cast a gaze to the sky, "Uncle Ryuzaki...If this works...you can kiss my ass." he laughed. He's always hated Ryuzaki, ALWAYS. The man was addicted to sweets, never slept, and even handcuffed himself to a dude. Something was wrong with him, and he had an ego the size of Japan itself! Kyo wanted to be rid of him as soon as possible.

Rin raised one eyebrow, which looked rather comical when a shinigami preformed that seemingly innocent action.
"Occult factor?.." She then shrugged and almost said something about being an amateur... /almost/

From having been spoken to by Kyo, she concluded that he was a very smart, if not reckless kid who didn't think ahead as much as he thought in the present. Ah well, only he would determine if that would be a downfall or a weakness.

She turned to Kyo again after he positioned himself below the tree that was going to fall.
"If you really want the satisfaction of him dying a long and painful death, you should move out from under the tree." She said dryly before giving an explanation.
"If what you write affects more than one life, the victim will merely die of a heart attack and not the way you wrote him in."

"Not to mention, I doubt you would really want to be crushed by an elm tree after only having the Death Note for a couple of hours. It would ruin all the fun, hmm?" Rin said as an after-thought and then not waiting for an answer, resigned herself to observing the humans more.

Humans were interesting. But they were the most selfish creatures to ever walk the earth. Rin though distastefully as she recalled Kyo's expression.

Ah, well, the deed was done, the note dropped and now she would just wait. Too bad that when it was Kyo's time to die, she would be the one writing his name. She might as well use the exact same thing that he wrote his first time.

Of course, it wasn't like she cared, but she didn't doubt that Kyo would want that particular nugget of knowledge, or the thing about the eye deal.

If there was one thing Rin was courteous about, it was that she would try to spoil his sadistic fun.

At the Shinigami's warning, Kyo grinned,"As you should be aware of already, not all humans are on the same skill plane. Some of us are...gifted. That would be me. I don't have anything special like fire control or anything, but I do have years of experience under my belt. You'd be suprised....when this tree falls, it won't even have the chance to move before I'm out of the way. Such is the way of the Furukawa Clan..." He smiled sweetly. Masking his malicious intent as a few people glanced at him.

Kyo's glance shifted back, "So...I take it I'm the only one able to see you...?" he asked her softly as to avoid any more suspicious glances. Kyo rose seeing His "friend" Gen Soryu enter the park with a blank expression on his face. Kyo grinned, "Showtime I guess." He laughed.

As Kyo walked a ways from the tree he sat down on the soft grass and watched as the large oak tree in the park snapped at the roots and fell upon Gen's small frame. The tree missed all the vital ORGANS but knicked the capillary Artery...bleeding to death...not what Kyo had in mind, but it works. Could have been abit more epic, but this is good for starters.

Furukawa clan... Rin pondered this for a second before taking it to mean some sort of extensive martial arts or skill training.

Wow, this kid, he was something else...
Or just a sadist with a genius IQ.
Rin would bet on either one.

She looked at him "Yes, only people who have touched the DeathNote can see me." she answered quietly before the victim entered the park. She could tell without remembering a name, his expression was blissfully blank, one of the signs that a person was being controlled by the DeathNote.

The large oak tree they had been under a minute or so before slowly cracked and groaned as an unseen force caused it to topple over and crush the guy, leaving him to bleed to death.

Not very imaginative, but Kyo was Kyo and he would get better at setting the deaths, little sadist that he was.
Rin snorted in slight disgust directed to the human race.
She paused.

It's not like the shinigami were any better, lounging around, perpetually lazy, sleeping and gambling their years away.
Rin was different. She wanted to do something with her life.

She could hear sirens as both an ambulance and several police cars swerved around the corner and drove strait over the grass and into the park next to the scene of the accident. (Crime, Rin reminded herself) Several minutes later a firetruck came into view, sirens blaring.

First responders... typical...

Kyo looked back at Rin, "You Coming or not?" he asked before turning again and walking. Where to go now, there really weren't many options. He could finish off Uncle Ryuzaki....but then again, Ryuzaki wasn't his real name....he refused to tell anyone, probably because of something like this. Kyo narrowed his eyes, "Well...now what?" he sighed as he stretched. Not the best reaction for a newfound murderer.
