Wher Colors and Rankings

*Whers play an important part to Aldesia Weyr's defense system for their ability to fight Threadfall at night and to fend ffelines that sneak into the weyr itself to kill livestock. Aldesia's whers have varying levels of speech, depending on their color.


Gold Whers
**Female Only
Average Height: 1 - 1 1/2 meters at the shoulder
Average Length: 6 meters

Gold whers are among the most intelligent of all whers and the largest. Like gold dragons, gold whers have strong mindsets and are often the ones giving orders to the other whers during Threadfall and other duties. Golds are very protective of their clutches and will lash out if they feel anyone or anything is a threat to their clutch, with the intention to kill. Gold whers do not chew firestone, for it will render them infertile. A mature gold will run 1-2 times per Turn.

They Impress mainly to female handlers, but a male handler is not unheard of.

Silver Whers
**Female Only
Average Height: 1 - 1 1/2 meters at the shoulder
Average Length: 5-6 meters

Silver whers are much like gold whers, though smaller in size. Silver whers have the same authoritative powers as gold whers. Silver whers are also not allowed to chew firestone, for they are also the main breeders. Silvers run once every other Turn and produce relatively small clutches.

Impress only to female handlers. Males are never choosen by a silver.

Shadow Whers
**Male Only
Average Height: 1 - 1 1/3 meters at the shoulder
Average Length: 5 meters

Shadow whers are a mutation of bronze whers and are just as intelligent as gold and silver whers. These strong, agile whers can produce their own flames without the help of firestone, though chewing firestone allows them to breath flame for much longer intervals.

Impress mainly to male handlers, though there have been known to be female handlers too.

Bronze Whers
**Male Only
Average Height: 1 - 1 1/3 meters at the shoulder
Average Length: 5 meters

Bronze whers are the strong willed, though their intelligence is less than those of the queen whers and shadows whers. Bronze whers need firestone to breath flame. Flight can be difficult for young whers for thier bodies are a bit heavy for their wings.

Brass Whers
**Male or Female (Females extremely rare)
Average Height: 1 - 1 1/4 meters at the shoulder
Average Length: 4 1/2 - 5 meters

Brass whers seem to be a very strange mutation of Bronze whers, but no one is really sure, since they can be female too. Female Brass whers are allowed to chew firestone, since they are not considered major breeders. Female brass whers run once every other Turn.

Brown Whers
**Male only
Average Height: 1 - 1 1/6 meters
Average Length: 4 - 5 meters

Brown whers are in the mid-range of intelligence and make good wingseconds. Often strong, brown whers are quite reliable, though most possess rather short tempers.

Violet Whers
**Female Only
Average Height: 1 - 1 1/8 meters
Average Length: 3 3/4 - 4 1/2 meters

A rare color mutation, violet whers are allowed to chew firestone, for they aren't considered major breeders. They possess the same intelligence level as brown whers, though tend to be more ill-tempered. A Violet wher runs to mate 2-3 times per Turn.

Blue Whers
**Male Only
Average Height: 1 meter
Average Length: 3 - 4 meters

Blue whers are not among the brightest whers in of them all, but they can be reliable where it counts. They make great, loyal companions and faithful guardians (if treated right).

Impress mainly to male handlers, but will choose female handlers

Crimson Whers
**Male or Female
Average Height: 1 meter
Average Length: 2 2/3 - 3 meters

Crimson whers are a mutation of both blue and green whers, since they can occur as females. Crimsons tend to be rather feral creatures, but with proper training and care, they can be rather well-trained. Female whers are allowed to chew firestone and run to mate about 3-4 times per Turn.

Green Whers
**Female Only
Average Height: 1 meter
Average Length: 2 3/4 - 3 1/2 meters

Green whers are rather vicious, attitude-wise, but some are known to be rather kind and loving. Greens are allowed to chew firestone to keep them from overrunning the wher with babies because they run to mate so much in one Turn. A Green can run to mate about 4-5 times per Turn, sometimes less, sometimes more.

White Wher
**Genderless
Average Height: 1/2 - 1 meter
Average Lenght: 1 3/4 - 2 1/2 meters

White whers, though small, are just as intelligent as gold whers. Though they are born genderless and infertile, their voice takes on the gender of their handler.
