AFTER THE TUDORS;
After The Tudors is an AU site, but uses history as a guide, and takes aspects from the Tudors TV series, as well as the Elizabeth movies. It's up to you, the members, to decide the outcome of the site. Will the Catholic Mary remain queen, or will she be triumphed by the Protestant Elizabeth?

As of now, Edward is dead, and in his place sits his devoutly Catholic sister, Mary. For months Mary has been hiding behind closed doors, in fear of the public she now has to rule, the majority of which are Protestant. Never imagining she would live to sit on the throne, the new queen not only has to deal with her people, but the secretaries who once worked so diligently for her brother. Between her citizens, and her council, returning to the old ways, and forging the bonds that were once broken with the Sea of Rome, will not be easy for the eldest Tudor, but she is determined to try.

THE TIMELINE.
Just thought I'd set this up as a guide between 1549 and 1553, of course because this site is AU, it is most certainly subject to change.

MAY 20TH, 1549 - OCTOBER 1ST, 1553

May 20th, 1549

Act of Uniformity passes Parliament which forbids other prayer books.

June - August 1549

Western Rebellion.
Rising in the west of England against the Prayer Book and King Edward VI's religious policies.
Ended at the Battle of Samford Courtenay.

August 18th, 1549

Battle of Samford Courtenay.
Defeat of the western rebels by Lord John Russell near Okehampton.

January 22nd, 1552

Edward Seymour is executed based on trumped up charges of treason.
Heading the effort to get rid of Seymour is John Dudley, Duke of Northumberland.
Dudley later marries his son, Guildford, to Lady Jane Grey, in an attempt to rule England through her.

April, 1552

King Edward is ill with a double infection of smallpox and measles.
The king survives but the attack severely weakens his immune system.

February, 1553

King Edward calls off his procession of the southern counties due to his rapidly declining health.

June 21st, 1553

King Edward signs a statement naming Lady Jane Grey as his successor.
In doing this, Edward proclaims his sisters to be bastards, and establishes the granddaughter of Charles Brandon and Mary Tudor as the future queen.

July 6th, 1553

King Edward VI dies.
The announcement of the king's passing is delayed.
Both of the king's sister are invited to court, but both are most likely informed or sense moves against them, and do not come.

July 10th, 1553

Lady Jane Grey is proclaimed Queen of England, otherwise known as the 'nine days queen'.

July 19th, 1553

Forces loyal to Lady Mary Tudor disperse Suffolk's troops and Lady Jane Grey is imprisoned in the Tower of London.

August 3rd, 1553

Lady Mary Tudor and her supporters enter London in triumph.
Lady Elizabeth Tudor and Anne of Cleves come to London in support of Mary.

August 22nd, 1553

John Dudley, the Duke of Northumberland, is executed for treason.
Northumberland was instrumental in the plot to place Jane Grey on the throne instead of Mary Tudor.

August 23rd, 1553

Bishop Stephen Gardiner is created Lord Chancellor of England after his release from the Tower of London.

October 1, 1553

Coronation of Queen Mary I.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Welcome to After The Tudors. We are an AU site which uses history as a guide, and takes aspects from the Tudors TV series, and the Elizabeth movies, but other than that, we are 100% AU. It really is up to you, the members, to decide what direction your characters and, ultimately, this site goes in.

It is currently March in 1552. There are currently Ten Females and Nine Males, and no character bans.
