Ministry of Magic Departments
  1. Level One: Ministers for Magic, Support Staff
    • Minister of Magic: The highest position in the ministry.
    • Chief Warlock of the Wizengamot: They serve as a combination between chief justice and speaker of the house. Their power is second only to the minister's.
    • Senior Undersecretary: Third in the line of power. They sit in on Wizengamot trials; however, little else is known about this job. They may possibly act as a head to the heads of department, and advisor to the Minister of Magic.
    • Junior Undersecretary: Presumably, they assist the Senior Undersecretary in their everyday work.
    • Heads of Department: The heads of department manage and direct department activities. It is a respected position, particularly Magical Law Enforcement, with nearly as much power as the undersecretary.
    • Assistants/Junior HoD: High-ranking officials in the ministry may have assistants or Junior HoD's to help them manage the day-to-day tasks of the department.
    • Secretary: They have a position similar to assistants and junior HoD's, but with less power because their expertise is typically not specific to the department they work in, but rather to paperwork.
    • Security Guard: The muscles for the brains of the ministry. Someone has to check visitor's wands and bar the doors.
  2. Level Two: Department of Magical Law Enforcement
    • Auror: A witch or wizard who specializes in capturing dark witches and wizards.
    • Hit Wizard/Witch: They are similar to aurors, except they specialize in capturing dangerous criminals.
    • Misuse of Muggle Artifacts: Due to an increasing half-blood and muggle-born population, this department has steadily grown in importance. These Ministry workers deal with charmed, jinxed, and cursed muggle items. They also keep a list of Proscribed Charmable Objects.
  3. Level Three: Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes
    • Accidental Magic Reversal Squad: These witches and wizards specialize in undoing spells which may or may not have a reversal spell. Frequently, they must solve seemingly unsolvable magic puzzles.
    • Obliviator: Expertises at memory-wiping, they are especially active in muggle-related departments.
    • Muggle-Worthy Excuse Committee: A team who think up different explanations for magical occurrences which the muggle populations may witness. Work in tandem with Obliviators.
  4. Level Four: Department for the Regulation & Control of Magical Creatures
    • Beast, Being, and Spirit Divisions: Each division specializes in the management and political aspect of beasts, beings, or spirits. Their goal is to maintain friendly or passable relations with safe creatures, keep dangerous creatures at bay, manage and regulate breeding, and manage the trade of creatures across country borders and into shops. They also monitor abuse against creatures.
    • Goblin Liaison Office: Representatives for goblins.
    • Pest Advisory Board: Magical exterminators. They offer advice and solutions to all sorts of magical infestations. (Calls about an infestation of Weasley's are quite old and not appreciated, thank you very much.)
    • Committee for the Disposal of Dangerous Creatures: Like a combination of the Pest Advisory Board and Hit Wizards, these people manage dangerous creature-related situations. They know how to handle anything deadly.
    • Werewolf Capture Unit & Support Services:
    • Dragon Research and Restraint Bureau: The group that manages dragons across G.B.
  5. Level Five: Department of International Magical Cooperation
    • General: They work with other magical governments, set standards for trade, and create regulations.
    • International Confederation of Wizards, British Seats: One of the premier international relations groups, it is similar to the Muggle's UN in form and purpose.
    • International Magical Office of Law: This office works with governments across the globe to ensure that policies remain somewhat democratic and don't violate any magical rights.
    • International Magical Trading Standards Body: They regulate the quantity, quality, etc. of what goes in and out of G.B.'s borders.
  6. Level Six: Department of Magical Transportation
    • Apparition Test Center: This is the place where young witches and wizards gain their apparition licenses. They offer classes and license renewal.
    • Broom Regulatory Control: This group monitors broom safety, runs safety tests, and develops a broom rating system.
    • Floo Regulation Panel: This group manages what fireplaces are connected to the floo network.
    • Floo Network Authority: Floo Network Regulators regulate the floo network. They have the ability to connect or disconnect a fireplace according to the current safety standards, and may eavesdrop on conversations.
    • Portkey Office: Portkey Officers authorize the use of portkeys. In order to get a portkey, you have to go through this office.
  7. Level Seven: Department of Magical Games & Sports
    • General: Employees in this department manage games and sports and make sure that they remain hidden from prying muggle eyes.
    • British and Irish Quidditch League Headquarters: The HQ for all the British international quidditch teams.
    • Wizard's International Dueling Body: The group responsible for maintaining proper dueling standards and punishing those who duel outside of a sports context.
  8. Level Eight: Atrium
    • Secretary: They have a position similar to assistants and junior HoD's, but with less power because their expertise is typically not specific to the department they work in, but rather to paperwork.
    • Security Guard: The muscles for the brains of the ministry. Someone has to check visitor's wands and bar the doors.
  9. Level Nine: Department of Mysteries
    • Unspeakable: "Here wizards who are called Unspeakables go about researching some of the deepest mysteries of existence. These wizards have discovered that there is magic that is inherent to the very fabric of existence which manifests itself in ways that are difficult to explain and even more difficult--if not impossible--to control. The Unspeakables explore and experiment with these mysterious forces in various chambers which are clustered around a circular room lined with doors..."
  10. Level Ten: Wizengamot & Courtroom
    • Wizengamot: The high court of wizarding law in Britain.
