REGISTRATION & GENERAL SITE INFO- I'm confused. How do I join, exactly? Read the rules. Fill out the character directory form and post your completed profile in that forum. There is no acceptance process for original adult, human characters. Read the rules for more details on the registration process.
... - Is this site 'linear?' No. We use liquid time, meaning that we can be roleplaying events a few hours or a few weeks apart. In general we roleplay within a two month time span. Events that happen years earlier or later can be roleplayed in Tangled Threads.
... - Is the site APP (Account Per Player) or APC (Account Per Character)? AG is APC, meaning we have individually registered accounts for characters.
... - Where should I go for more information about the site? About the Site has a brief explication of the site as well as links to all the important threads.
... - What's the site rating? This is a site featuring adults, so I can murder people and sleep around and stuff, right? No. Read the rules. The site has a PG-13 rating to account for the age of the characters, but all graphic violence and sexual content, as well as most foul language, is restricted. Just because the characters are adults, that doesn't mean the people playing them are. Use discretion. Check the rules for a more detailed explanation.
... - Since this is an open site that doesn't require approval for applications, do I really have to follow the 'Quality Policy' section of the rules? Yes. If you're posting lots of error-riddled, sloppy, sub-par one liners and you don't improve them after getting help, you'll be asked to leave. We expect you to follow our rules here, and open application doesn't change that.
... - What is the Tangled Threads Category all about? Tangled Threads is AG's original plotting center. It's about creating a plot that revolves around every character on the site, and promoting roleplays between all kinds of characters. That's where new members go to introduce themselves and their characters. Old members respond, introduce themselves, and offer plot ideas to the new members so that they can roleplay something together as soon as they join. It's also a forum where you can put all those extra bits and pieces of supplementary writing that have to do with the site.
CHARACTER AVAILABILITY- Do I have to join as a character who just graduated? No. Your character can be any age you'd like, though we'd prefer to keep the member base within the 17 - 170 age range. Underage characters require admin approval.
... - I want to be a vampire/veela/cross-dressing muggle. Can I? Yes, if you PM the admin with your form and get approved. We'd like to make sure that canon characters stay in line with the happenings/facts in the books.
... - I want to be a canon character. Can I? No, not at the time. We've had multiple issues with people applying as canon characters, and have closed the option off until we find a way to resolve the problems.
... - Can my character come from a different series/movie or have powers that are not found in the HP books? No. We do not permit crossovers of any sort. Although AG is mostly populated by original characters, it is canon in terms of race, powers, social structure, laws of the universe, etc..
... - Can my character be a half vampire and half veela-werewolf? No. If it's not a canon creature or race, it's not on AG. Check the Character Directory Form for further information on which canons are available.
... - What Beasts/Beings/Spirits are allowed?: Werewolf, vampire, veela/part-veela, ghost, poltergeist, centaur, and merperson. No other beasts/beings/spirits are accepted at this time (mostly because they would be boring to RP as anything but an NPC).
... - What Special Powers are allowed?: Animagus, Legilimens, Occlumens, and Seer. No other powers are accepted at this time.
... - Can I convince the admin to let me create a character from a different race/with a different power anyways?: You can try. No guarantees, though.
... - What's your take on wandless magic?: We don't currently allow it as a special power. However, it's perfectly acceptable to roleplay your character performing minor wandless magic in extreme situations, when they aren't in control of the ability, but are simply trying not to die, etc.. Controlled wandless magic would require special permission for a special character.
SIGN-UPS & OTHER MINOR LEGALITIES- How do I get my character's member group/title changed? Post in Character Sign-Ups and your member group and title will be changed.
... - Another member is already using the playby I was going to use. Can I still use it? Respect the other member and ask their permission. There's a chance they may let you use the same playby. If they don't want you to use the same playby, it's best to be polite and look for another face.
... - How do I get a house/flat? Post your thread in a forum with housing. If you'd like something a bit more complicated (your personal forum for a mansion or estate, etc.), you must PM an admin. Housing should reflect income and background, so use common sense.
... - Speaking of money, is there a banking system? No. It's way too much work for the admin team to continually update the accounts of every member to reflect their jobs and history; we'd rather RP with you than spend all that time working on a bank. For roleplaying purposes, you earn a certain amount of income through your job (or get an allowance mum and dad) and you probably have an account in Gringotts. Or maybe you just hide it under your mattress. One is never sure with wizarding folk...
... - How do I know which threads I can post in? Members use a number of notes in their topic descriptions to indicate who they want to reply. No note or "open" means that anyone can reply, and if this is the case, go ahead and post! If the description says "closed" or has another character's name, do not post there--that thread is reserved for someone else. NOTE: If a thread is "open" but someone has already replied and the thread is active, PM the players involved and ask permission before joining in.
... - What is the Featured Member and how does it work? The Featured Member is AG's way of recognizing the members who make the site such a great place to be. They're nominated by the members for the members, and can be recognized for any number of merits, from friendliness to high posting activity to creativity. We're very proud of our members at AG and want to let everyone know why.

IN-CHARACTER TRIVIA- What time is it in-character? Currently we are roleplaying between December 2018 and February 2019. (Liquid time is a beautiful, beautiful thing)
... - What is the 'BHL?' The BHL is the Brunette Hotties League. When AG was first getting started, several members signed up with attractive brunette female aurors, thus creating a Department of Magical Law Enforcement that was comprised totally of brunette hotties. The group is now joked about quite a bit in threads and CBox conversations.
... - Are there any underground organizations like the Deatheaters? Currently we have an underground crime organization, called the Syndicate, operating out of Thieves Road/Knockturn Alley under the leadership of Aleksandra Mikhaylova. We also have a group of terrorists led by Shallah Kosa. See the Wizarding Crime Guide for more information on the groups and characters involved.
... - Who or what is Pinkie Pie? Pinkie Pie is Jasper Christie's enchanted, life-sized My Little Pony pet. Pinkie Pie is quite the celebrity on AG and is frequently mentioned in posts and CBox conversations.
