Chapter One
"Do you have a moment?" Callie asked as she slid up next to her best friend/girlfriend.
"What's up?" Addison asked, closing the chart she was reading and looked up at Callie.
"Follow me," Callie told her.
"Callie, I thought we had a rule about, you know, no sex in the hospital," Addison said, her voice dropping to a whisper as she fell into step beside Callie.
"Maybe some other time," Callie said, throwing a sideways smile at Addison.
"Okay, just keep an open mind," Callie said as she stopped in front of an on-call room, her hand resting on the door handle.
"Callie," Addison warned, raising an eyebrow in suspicion. Callie gave her a sly smile before opening the door and walking into the on-call room.
"Hi Callie " a little girl of about four said, looking from a coring book as Callie and Addison stepped into the room.
"Hey kiddo, there's someone I want you to meet," Callie said as she knelt beside the bed in front of the little girl. "Rilee, this is my friend Addison. Addison, this is Rilee."
"Hi, Rilee," Addison smiled at the little girl.
"I'll be right back," Callie told her as she stood up. Addison took the hint and followed Callie out of the on-call room.
"Cute, isn't she?" Callie asked Addison once she made sure the door was securely shut behind her.
"She is. Who is she?" Addison asked.
"She came in today with a broken arm. Her mom was acting strange, saying that Rilee fell out of a tree while Rilee's story and the patten of the breaks contradicted it. I called child services to come down and talk to the mom while I talked to Rilee. The mom bails before they get here, leaving Rilee all alone while I have to fix her arm and put a cast on."
"Poor kid," Addison said, looking towards the door.
"Next is where you come into play," Callie told Addison.
"What about me?" Addison asked.
"I talked to child services and they've agreed to let me take Rilee home for a few days until they can find her mother. If it's alright with you," Callie said.
"Why would it have to be alright with me. You know I won't mind," Addison told her.
"Well, there is one other thing. I know that you're off in about five minutes and I was hoping that you could go ahead and take Rilee home with you so she doesn't have to look at hospital walls anymore."
"I think I can manage that," Addison smiled.
"Let's see what Rilee thinks," Callie smiled back before walking into the on-call room once again.
"Rilee, I have something to ask you. How would you like to stay with me and Addison for a few days," Callie asked the little girl. Rilee smiled and nodded her head.
"If it's okay with you, Addison is going to go ahead and take you home with her now and get you something to eat, and I will be home in a few hours. Is that okay?"
"Yea," Rilee said smiling.
"Are you ready to go?" Addison asked Rilee. Riles nodded, holding up her arms for Addison to pick her up. Addison frowned slightly as she lifted Rilee to her, noting the lightness of the girl.
"Rilee, can you do me a favor?" Callie asked.
"What?" Rilee asked, looking at Callie.
"Make sure Addison doesn't cook anything," Callie smiled, shooting a sideways glance at Addison.
"Can do," Rilee said, giggling at the look that Addison shot at Callie.
"I'll see you in a couple of hours, okay?"
"Okay."
------------------
"How was she?" Callie asked as she plopped down on the couch next to Addison.
"She was absolutely perfect. I promised her that we would take her shopping tomorrow."
"I think I can manage that."
"There's something else," Addison said as she raised her head from Callie's shoulder.
"Hmm?" Callie asked.
"I think your other girl needs some attention," Addison smiled. Callie smiled back at Addison as she lowered her lips to the redhead's. Addison's hand went to Callie's cheek as a she let out a soft moan as Callie's tongue invaded her mouth.
"Callie?" Rilee asked, stepping into the living room.
"Damage control," Callie whispered as she stood up from the couch and ushered the girl back to her room.
"We have to talk about what I saw, don't we?" Rilee asked as Callie tucked her back into bed.
"We sure do," Callie said, sitting on the edge of the bed. "You know that love isn't always just between a man and a woman, right "
Rilee nodded her head, letting Callie know that she understood.
"That's how it is with Addison and me. We love each other," Callie explained to the little girl.
"My mommy and daddy were never like that," the little girl said, looking sad.
"Well, your mommy and daddy missed out on a lot of things," Callie said as she brushed a strand of blonde hair away from Rilee's face. "Now, if you wake up in the middle of the night and her scared, Addison and I are just in the room across the hall."
"Night Callie."
"Night sweetheart."
"Can you tell Addison that I said night?"
"I will," Callie said before pulling the door shut.
"So?" Addison asked as Callie walked back into the living room and sat next to her.
"We're good. Rilee was more understanding than I thought she would be," Callie told her, her hand resting on Addison's knee.
"We should head on to bed because I have a feeling that Rilee is going to wear us out tomorrow," Addison said as she linked her hand with Callie's.
----------------------
"Addison, look at this one," Rilee shouted as her fingers lightly ran over a yellow sundress.
"That is beautiful," Addison said as she and Callie joined Rilee. "We can get it of you want."
"Really?" Rilee asked, looking uo expectantly.
"Of course. Anything you want is yours," Addison told her.
----------------
"What do you say to Addison?" Callie asked Rilee as they took a break from shopping to get something to eat.
"Thank you, Addison," Rilee said around a mouthful of French fries.
"Aww, there's no need to think me. I'm happy to," Addison said as she wiped a smear of ketchup off of Rilee's chin.
"How would you like to come hang out at the hospital tomorrow?" Callie asked Rilee.
"My mom won't be there, will she?" Rilee asked.
"Of course not. Besides, she wouldn't want to mess with me or Addison," Callie told her. This elicted a giggle from Rilee.
"You'll only have to be there for a few hours anyways. I just have to do some paperwork and then we will be able to hang out for the rest of the day until Callie gets off," Addison told Rilee.
-------------
"Who is this?" Bailey asked as she noticed the little girl that clung to Addison.
"This is Rilee. She's staying with me and Callie for a few days," Addison told Miranda.
"Hello Rilee, I'm Miranda," Bailey introduced herself to the girl.
"Hi Miranda," Rilee smiled, instantly becoming more comfortable with the other doctor.
"Rilee, could you do me a favor and stay here with Miranda for a few minutes while I run upstairs?" Addison asked the little girl. Rilee nodded her head and stood by Bailey when Addison sat her down.
"I promise I'll be right back " Addison promised Miranda.
"I'm timing you, Addison," Bailey called after her as she moved around the nurses' station to take a seat as she kept a keen eye on Rilee.
----------------
"Rilee."
Rilee looked around as she heard someone call her name. She looked over ar Miranda who was arguing with someone on the phone. Her eyes drifted to Addison who was walking down the stairs looking at some papers. Finally, her eyes landed on the person who was calling her.
"Come on, Rilee. Come to mama," Rilee's mother called for her.
"No," Rilee said softly, backing away from her.
"Come on, Rilee. Come to me so we can go home," she tried again.
"No " Rilee repeated, her voice louder this time. Rilee's mom lunged forward, pulling Rilee towards her.
"Let me go," Rilee yelled as she struggled to get away.
