FINAL RESOLUTION

CR-ROTK C16 For Frodo

THIS IS THE BATTLE MUSIC ONLY. THE MOTH MUSIC IS IN THIS THREAD.

note: TTBK made some suggestions about this singing back in June 2006. I don't think he was right but to see his thinking, visit THIS THREAD (that thread is locked).

I'm working off the movie right now, but I tried to get the CR time stamps (assuming that the track starts right after the 'i-can't-carry-it-for-you-but-I-can-carry-you'-scene, so they may differ from the CR a bit).

This is what I figured out so far:

0:06 Ae
0:07 na
0:08 gu-il
0:11 nín
0:13 e-
0:14 gor
0:15 na
0:16 ngurth
0:17 nín
0:18 ge-
0:19 rin le
0:22 be-
0:24 riad
0:25 Le
0:26 be-
0:28 ri-
0:29 a-
0:31 thon
0:32 Le
0:35 ve-
0:36 gil nín
0:39 cyll e-
0:40 gorv,
0:41 Le
0:43 a-
0:46 nnon
0:48 beth
0:51 nín (second syllable??)
0:54 Ú-
0:56 e-
0:59 rir
1:01 aen
1:04 han
1:06 risto
1:08 (Ú-e)rir
1:10 aen han
1:13 pre-
1:15 sto rú-
1:17 vo
1:20 i rym

I'm pretty sure - except 0:51 (I think I hear a second syllable), and 1:10 - 1:15 ('aen han presto')

The first syllables I could hear were 'nín egor na ngurth', then I thought I could hear faint voices singing 'Ae na guil' right before that, but now I'm not so sure anymore unsure.gif
So I think the choir starts at 0:11 and I just imagined the first 4 syllables (they would fit in pretty well though).

As soon as I get the CR, I'll continue my work an these lyrics, since it's one of my favourite 'cues' (lack of an other word - sorry!) of the entire trilogy. smile.gif

0:06 Ae
0:07 na
0:08 gu-il
0:11 nín
0:13 e-
0:14 gor
0:15 na
0:16 ngurth
0:17 nín

Those timestamps are definitely right. I got the CRs yesterday and the liner notes had a shot of the score in them. Those lyrics are on it. Good work, Sabsi biggrin.gif

By the way, I haven't even listened to half of the CRs yet but I think that they are going to become my favorite out of the whole trilogy smile.gif

I've just had someone ask me about these lyrics so I pulled up the thread and turned on the mp3 player and they sound good to me. But the singing goes on much longer than we have here.

The choir resumes at 1:42

The boy soprano sings from 2:36 - 3:00 (I think there's a held note from 3:00 for both the soprano and the choir)

but the choir continues under him. The AS-ROTK gives us a different source text for The Moth and I have a separate thread for it. But the choir could be continuing with For Frodo or have started drawing from a new source text at 1:42.

It was a bit thrilling to listen to this music for which I waited for so long and be able to follow along on the lyrics. You guys are the best!

That's strange... At first I thought I could hear 'Ae na guil nin' in the movie, then I found out I was wrong, but now it's on the CR - maybe I have the gift of foresight biggrin.gif

Anyway, now that I finally got my CR, I'll provide the CR-time stamps.

0:08 Ae
0:09 na
0:10 gu-il
0:13 nín
0:15 e-
0:16 gor
0:17 na
0:18 ngurth
0:19 nín
0:20 ge-
0:21 rin le
0:24 be-
0:25 riad
0:27 Le
0:28 be-
0:30 ri-
0:31 a-
0:32 thon
0:34 Le
0:36 ve-
0:38 gil nín
0:40 cyll e-
0:42 gorv,
0:43 Le
0:44 a-
0:47 nnon
0:50 beth
0:53 nín (second syllable??)
0:56 Ú-
0:58 e-
1:00 rir
1:03 aen
1:06 han
1:07 risto
1:10 (Ú-e)rir
1:12 aen han

I think I was wrong about the rest (1:13-1:20), for I hear an 's' at 1:21 on the CR, so I think it's

1:15 isto
1:17 Mor-
1:19 dor
1:21 Eles-

The rest was too hard to hear in the movie (nasty soundFX spoil the nice music!):
Here is what I have so far:

1:42 -sar
1:45 El-
1:47 e-
1:49 ssar
1:52 tellin
1:55 i (chir)
1:56 Gondor

I wanted to figure out exactly what scenes went with the music here so I did a mini-cue by cue. Because I've got no good place to put info like that at the moment, I'm going to plop it here.

timestamps for the CR track. The switch between scenes are fluid in regards to the music so allow for a second or two difference in either direction

0:00 Aragorn charges
0:06 The rest charge and the battle begins
0:31 switch to Sam carrying Frodo
0:42 Sam looks up to spy the door into the mountain
0:51 Gollum appears
0:56 Gollum attacks and knocks Frodo from Sam's shoulders
1:05 Gollum gets on top of Frodo who challenges him: "You swore..."
1:24 Gollum answers, "I lied" and chokes him in earnest
1:33 Sam throws rock at Gollum, stunning him. Gollum attacks Frodo again and Sam attacks Gollum
1:42 switch to the battle at the Black Gate
1:57 Nazgul arrive
2:02 switch to Sam and Gollum fighting. Sam cuts Gollum and turns to look for Frodo
2:18 Frodo is running for the door into the mountain
2:26 switch to battle at BG, a Nazgul swoops down
2:42 Gandalf spies the moth
2:42 Gandalf looks up to see swooping Nazgul intercepted by an Eagle
2:51 we see more Eagles
2:58 switch to mountain - during last held note of the choir and orchestral finale, Sam looks up to see Frodo run into door

The stuff you have so far seems good to me although I'm also perplexed by that extra syllable at 0:53.

So now we need the lyrics after 2:00

Here are the places I hear a syllable. Some come just as the counter is turning so they may be off a second from what you hear.

2:00
2:03
2:06
2:09
2:12 Rúvo (i) rym
2:17 I aur (hen) ú bant!
2:24
2:29
2:32

For 2:1-2:24, I'm pretty sure I can hear this. These are also the only two lines left if I account for all the lines sung before this. But this 'uses up' the source text and I can't make out the earlier or the later part (as shown below).

although...
Could the first part be
Ae na (guil nín egor na) ngurth nín --- If by (my life or) my death

Could that last part be
Cyll e-Gorv --- Ringbearer?
